Honma would far and away be the best worker among Heavyweights. KUSHIDA could be cool. Anyone else in the company would be a large step down. Probably too much of short notice to get any big name outsiders but you never know. I'll say Honma, just for fun's sake.

BTW in a very good deal, 110 bucks before Sunday gets you every G1 show live and OnDemand on UStream, as well as the option of 15 and 25 payments for buying a show apiece depending on which night. So all's well there.

Looks like you're getting your wish, Zero.

    Honma has officially replaced Ibushi.

Re: NJPW G1 Climax XXIV Discussion

We'll see that awesome smiley face headbutt to the outside now. Night 1's a really good card. My interest in this whole tournament will hinge on the main. If it's typical Bullet Club garbage I may already put them into fast forward land (Fale and Gallows are probably there anyway).

    (1) A BLOCK: Tomohiro Ishii vs. Bad Luck Fale (Yuck)
    (2) A BLOCK: Shelton “X” Benjamin vs. Doc Gallows
    (3) B BLOCK: Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Karl Anderson
    (4) A BLOCK: Satoshi Kojima vs. Yuji Nagata
    (5) B BLOCK: Toru Yano vs. Minoru Suzuki
    (6) B BLOCK: Tetsuya Naito vs. Yujiro Takahashi *shudders*
    (7) B BLOCK: Togi Makabe vs. Hirooki Goto
    (8) A BLOCK: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Tomoaki Honma
    (9) A BLOCK: Katsuyori Shibata vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
    (10) B BLOCK: AJ Styles vs. Kazuchika Okada

Night one looks like it'll be pretty great. The only match that looks terrible to me is Anderson vs Tenzan.

Re: NJPW G1 Climax XXIV Discussion

No, No Jim, Shelton Vs Doc will suck as well. The final four matches look sweet, even though AJ/Okada does seem a little played out already.

    I'll join in with Zero:

    (1) A BLOCK: Tomohiro Ishii vs. Bad Luck Fale
    (2) A BLOCK: Shelton “X” Benjamin vs. Doc Gallows
    (3) B BLOCK: Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Karl Anderson
    (4) A BLOCK: Satoshi Kojima vs. Yuji Nagata
    (5) B BLOCK: Toru Yano vs. Minoru Suzuki
    (6) B BLOCK: Tetsuya Naito vs. Yujiro Takahashi
    (7) B BLOCK: Togi Makabe vs. Hirooki Goto
    (8) A BLOCK: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Tomoaki Honma
    (9) A BLOCK: Katsuyori Shibata vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
    (10) B BLOCK: AJ Styles vs. Kazuchika Okada

Overall winner I'm still going with Nakamura.

I have more faith in Doc/Shelton seeing as Tenzan is one of the very few wrestlers that I'd consider as being worst than Shelton right now in New Japan.

Re: NJPW G1 Climax XXIV Discussion

Shelton's actually probably the best of the 4, he's at least proven he's capable of good singles matches in NJPW. Anderson had one great singles match vs Tanahashi but in his current incarnation I couldn't be less interested. The other two have been complete garbage this year in singles. Also would rank Yujiro, Fale, and Yano below most of them. Anyway Both matches are probably gonna be pretty bad considering the competitors, but even so I'm not sure there's a match that could possibly be booked in any promotion on Earth that I'd want to see less than Yano/Suzuki again. Not only are the matches bad like the rest of that midcard bunch, it insults my intelligence as a fan to see that match booked on every single show.

I'd say there's five matches with very high potential in night 1: The final 4 plus Nagata/Kojima. Sad to say I think of all of those bums probably the worst one in Fale's probably going to get a really heavy push throughout this tournament. Quite dreading that part.

NJPW Re: NJPW G1 Climax XXIV Discussion

Seeing as there have only been three IWGP HW Champs in the last three years I think Okada will win it all again. I know it doesnt sound fresh by any means but since the Okada/Bullet Club issue is still unresolved, I just see Okada coming full circle and regaining the title from AJ at WK9. Then maybe in 2015 CHAOS will split up and we can get matchups like Okada/Nakamura and Okada/Ishii with belts involved, who knows?~

Anyhoo, I'll be watching on uStream tonight, here are my picks! (we should keep like a pickem score, and whoever picks the most winners wins one internet lolol)

    (1) A BLOCK: Tomohiro Ishii vs. Bad Luck Fale
    (2) A BLOCK: Shelton “X” Benjamin vs. Doc Gallows
    (3) B BLOCK: Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Karl Anderson
    (4) A BLOCK: Satoshi Kojima vs. Yuji Nagata
    (5) B BLOCK: Toru Yano vs. Minoru Suzuki
    (6) B BLOCK: Tetsuya Naito vs. Yujiro Takahashi
    (7) B BLOCK: Togi Makabe vs. Hirooki Goto
    (8) A BLOCK: Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Tomoaki Honma
    (9) A BLOCK: Katsuyori Shibata vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
    (10) B BLOCK: AJ Styles vs. Kazuchika Okada

Agreed, those matches are such a waste of Suzuki's time and talent. I can't wait to see him later in the G1 doing what he does best now: putting on hard-hitting matches which help elevate younger talents. His matches against Naito and Yujiro are going to be gems I hope, and against AJ as well. I don't think AJ and Suzuki have ever had a match!

If the finals came down to Suzuki/Iishi, it would make for a MMA free for all, which does seem kinda cool.

Re: NJPW G1 Climax XXIV Discussion

Suzuki in the finals? That's quite a gamble.

It's amazing that in a match placed in between Fale & Tenzan matches, Gallows was still by far the worst performer on the show. He's even worse than I thought, and to make matters worse it was in an unexpectedly good performance from Shelton, who tried so hard to carry this lug. He's a legit worst wrestler of the year candidate folks.

The first few matches were all putting me to sleep, even Kojima/Nagata which underwhelmed. The 3 matches before the main event were all really good. Would probably pick Tanahashi/Honma as my favorite but any of the three would work just as well. Main event was your typical Okada/BC affair, this time with only one run-in and Okada won.

Didn't feel like I wasted my time watching but didn't blow me away either. There's a lot of fat that could of easily been trimmed from this tournament on the whole though and the shows would have been better for it imo. Absolutely loathing Fale & Gallows matches from here on. Gah.

Doesn't Okada actually winning and winning clean make it atypical already? haha~ but yeah, overall it was a good show, not great. The fact that the crowd was very into the whole thing (as opposed to when they were in Yokohama in May) helped elevate the so-so matches.

That match Ishii vs Fale was quite good in my opinion.

Shibata vs Nakamura was awesome! Given the fact that he used the G2S and the PK made is awesome in itself. I hope Shibata takes it!

Shibata/Nakamura was good, but I was hoping for better from them. Okada/AJ I was pleasantly surprised by, wasn't expecting to enjoy it but I thought it was the best match they'd had together so far, even overlooking Yujiro's obvious run-in. Good stuff.

I'll definitely say this was the best Okada/AJ. Also thought Okada looked really good. Haven't seen him look so inspired since...last year's G1 match vs. Tanahashi. We need to see more of THAT Okada we saw against AJ imo.

Still, watch the other two matches. Thought Tanahashi/Honma was definitely the MOTN and pretty much anybody can enjoy Goto/Makabe. Two badasses beating each other up.

Gallows has been pretty shit since he came in at last year's tag league. Disappointing, used to be a fan of his.
