    Gotham City Stories

Gotham City Stories is an upcoming American Television Series developed by writer/producer Dan Maskell. This will be Maskell's second project after his highly successful and critcially acclaimed series Rogue only just recently came to an end. Gotham City Stories is based off of DC Comics character Batman, a costumed crime fighter who was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. The series is set to premiere June 2nd 2014 on The CW Network across Northern America with international broadcasting set to take place at a later date. The series will follow American billionaire, Philanthropist and Industrialist Bruce Wayne who having witnessed the murder of his parents as a child at the hands of a homeless junkie known as Joe Chill swore revenge for the loss of his parents. But it was not until he was 22 years old that he would get his chance. As Joe Chill claimed to have evidence connecting respected businessman Roman Sionis to a mysterious crime lord known as Black Mask. But before Bruce could get his chance Joe Chill on the day of his trial was found hanging dead in his cell. Scolded by close friend Rachel Dawes for his actions Bruce realized that had he have taken the law in his hands like that he would have forever shamed the reputation of his father. Using some of his wealth Bruce hastily left Gotham city ashamed of what he would have done and traveled the world for nigh on 15 years studying science as well as training in several forms of martial arts whilst also training in man hunting as well. Now finally a man who in his eyes his father would be proud of. Bruce is returning home to Gotham City no longer to get revenge for his family. But instead to fulfill and oath he made to bring justice back to Gotham City.

    Re: Gotham City Stories

Gotham City Stories casts it's leading man

As soon as production was announced for Gotham City Stories. Many wondered just who would play Bruce Wayne. Several rumors were going round that Transformers' star Josh Duhamel or Strike Backs' Richard Armitage were the favorites to being casted for the role. However it can now be confirmed that Mad Men star Jon Hamm is going to be playing the role of Bruce Wayne. This is a big casting for the show as Hamm recently has earned various awards and ratings for his role as Don Draper in Mad Men. The reasoning for his casting as Bruce Wayne is that producers feel Hamm has proven to be able to play tortured characters in the past meaning he will be more then equipped to bring the presence required for Bruce Wayne.

    Re: Gotham City Stories

A Clockwork Orange star joins Gotham City Stories cast

With it only being recently announced that Mad Men star Jon Hamm would be playing Bruce Wayne in Gotham City Stories. The question remained just who would play the role of Alfred Pennyworth. It can now be confirmed that Malcolm McDowell will in fact be playing the role as Alfred. Although to the untrained eye Alfred Pennyworth appears to be an old man who just serves the Wayne family. Alfred is said to be a case of a man who is so much more then meets the eyes. Having previously worked as an intelligence agent for MI5 Alfred is a pivotal part of Bruce's plan to bring Justice to Gotham. When asked about his thoughts on playing Alfred, Malcolm replied "For me it is a refreshing change. When I was first contacted for the show I half expected to be offered the part of a villain such as the penguin based on some of my previous roles. So when instead they asked me to play someone with a significance such as Alfred I jumped at the chance. As it will make a change playing the good guy for once". When asked about why an actor best known for playing villains was casted in the role of Bruce's strongest ally. The response from head producer Dan Maskell was that for someone to play Alfred Pennyworth they needed to carry themselves in a certain way and have a real classy demeanor about themselves which Malcolm has shown to have even in the darkest roles such as his work in Clockwork Orange as Alex DeLarge.

I was expecting you to start off with a young Bruce Wayne to start off so Jon Hamm feels a bit too old for me (unless things have change and youre going with a seasoned Bruce Wayne). In any case, you know I've been looking forward to this.

At first Jon if I am honest I was considering a young Batman which is why I was lining up Josh Duhamel. But the more I thought about his backstory and the fact that Bruce was gone for such a long time. The more I realized by the time he returns to Gotham he will be in his late thirties nearing his forties which is why I selected Hamm. Because he I feel not only would he be able to convey the character of Bruce Wayne but he can also give a gritty, veteran approach to Batman. Hope you enjoy my work with this Jon!

Yes that was a brilliant suggestion. Shame I can't remember the man who suggested it now to give him a pat on the back haha. In serious though thanks for the suggestion of McDowell. He's definitely a great fit for the role.

    Re: Gotham City Stories

Gotham City Stories casts Homeland Star

Homeland actor Damian Lewis has been been casted in the CW's DC Comics inspired Gotham City Stories. Lewis will play a well known character from the Batman story as he has been casted as Detective Jim Gordon. Best known for his role as sergeant Nicholas Brody in the acclaimed Homeland series. But unlike his homeland character where Lewis was corrupted into becoming a bad guy. In Gotham City Stories he will be playing one of the few truly good men in the city. As Jim Gordon is as straightforward and honest as they come. Unfortunately he is swimming in a sea of corruption working in the Gotham City Police Department. In a quote about his role for the show Lewis replied "Jim Gordon is the last of a few good men. He knows he is swimming against the tide by being a good cop but that doesn't matter to him. All that matters is making Gotham City a safer place for all it's residents including his own family to live. Which will give me a fun challenge to play. As during my last role as man in uniform you saw that my character was easily influenced to turn his back on his own country. Whereas there would be no way of doing that to someone as strong minded about the way things should be as Jim Gordon."

    Re: Gotham City Stories

I didn't want to comment whilst your going through the reveal of cast members but screw it, I will anyway. The whole idea of doing a Batman Television Series is a ballsy decision and it needs to really do the DC Comics Superhero justice, I fully expect you to be able to deliver and exceed expectations for this.

The show obviously has a big budget, it's Batman for crying out loud so of course it is going to. Your casting is good, bit wary on Jon Hamm as Bruce Wayne/Batman but I'll let it develop further before I make a decision on him being the one cast as the Caped Crusader. McDowell is a god choice for Alfred, he's a pretty big name and he kind of brings that Morgan Freeman element to this TV series, if you understand what I mean by that. I've never watched Homeland so not entirely sure who Damian Lewis is so I can't comment on him that much.

Good luck Shade, this is an interesting venture you're going on and if all goes well, I expect you to take home a few awards for this. Top stuff.

Thanks for the feedback Baldwin. And yeah I totally agree with you about this being a real ballsy decision. Because unlike Rogue where everyone was my own creation so I could really play with things and if something didn't come out right I could try and cover it over by saying that is how it was meant to go
. But with Batman he is such an established character and so well known that if I go wrong or too far off course it just won't look good what so ever. So I am literally even now going over things with a fine tooth comb. That even though I will go my own direction with this show in certain ways and give things hopefully a more gritty feel it will still be Batman and not a whole complete different show if that makes sense.

With the first couple of castings I am going to admit there will definitely be some big names to draw in interest. Because obviously whilst people would tune in out of interest because it is Batman. They want to know the role is being handled with someone who can carry it off and not kill it in a bad way. Which is why I went with Jon Hamm. As I said to Jon my original choice of Josh Duhamel the more I thought about it the more I didn't think he was right for the part. Whereas Hamm has proven he can play the wealthy businessman as well as the dark sort of character you can associate with Bruce Wayne. Which brings into the other thing I was saying that when I think of Batman and more specifically Bruce Wayne's back story. With him being gone for so long before his return he would be in his mid to late thirties nearing his forties which again is why I feel Hamm is a good look. So hopefully I'm able to change your mind on him over time.

Really happy to hear you like McDowell as Alfred. Definitely understand the Morgan Freeman reference here. My one concern with using McDowell if I am honest was what would people think of using a man normally casted in the villain role being used as Batman's main ally. So I'm pleased to hear you like him for that. As for Lewis he is a really talented actor who also featured in the Sweeney film if you saw that. The main reason for his selection is based on not only that I feel he has proven to be able to play someone who commands respect/authority like a policeman or soldier whilst also having a close look to what Jim Gordon was like in the comics. What I will definitely be doing in regards to the castings is whilst you may see a couple of big names coming along in this first week. As time goes on you will see a lot more lesser known but still just as talented actors taking key roles. Thanks again for the comments Baldwin. Much Appreciated!

    Re: Gotham City Stories

Fourth Casting for Gotham City Stories confirmed

With two key Batman allies already confirmed for the show as Malcolm McDonell and Damian Lewis join the cast as Alfred Pennyworth and Jim Gordon respectively. Another key character not just in the life of the Batman but Bruce Wayne as well is that of Lucius Fox. In this interpretation of the Batman story Lucius Fox was a highly respected employee of Thomas Wayne who was asked to oversee operation at Wayne Enterprises for the ongoing future after Thomas and Martha's tragic deaths. After years in charge of the business the board elected to name Fox as the CEO of the company giving him complete control of operations. Set to play the role of Lucius Fox is none other then Giancarlo Esposito. Despite being known for darker roles including Gustavo Fring in Breaking Bad and Tom Neville in Revolution Esposito was called by producer Dan Maskell "The only man ever in mind for this role. The way Esposito carries himself even in the most sinister of roles is with an authority which has to be respected. That is why I feel he will make a perfect Lucius Fox"

The only thing I'm not sure of is Bruce and Gordon being the same age. I expected Damien Lewis as Harvey, but I'm very much into an older Bruce as it sets this apart from something like Arrow. Awesome casting so far.
