    Re: TCON Rebooks

Besides the tag match, your selections for the battle royal is a bit odd. You have Mr. T, one of the biggest celebs around at the time and you just have him in a random battle royal? Seems like a waste for him. Since Piper's busy, I'd suggest just putting Mr. T in another tag match. The most obvious one being Mr. T and Paul Orndorff vs Bob Orton and Don Muraco. You're continuing the Hogan and pals vs Piper and pals feud while also beginning the tag team of Muraco/Orton, a team that would have began teaming later on in the year.

It's a far better use of Paul Orndorff as well. At the time, he was one of your biggest stars in the company. Again, it's a waste for him to be in the battle royal when you don't have the match built around him like you do for Andre. Another note on the battle royal, it'd probably help the show feel bigger if you have a special Andre match besides the battle royal. It's another case like Mr. T where having William Perry is better served in an actual match where you can rely on his star power. Andre and Perry vs King Kong Bundy and Big John Studd would not only be a big attraction, but would also fit with the storylines at the time.

Since you're taking some guys out of the battle royal, you can ditch some of the unimportant matches like Steamboat/Herc and Adonis/Elmer and throw the wrestlers in the battle royal.

I am not a big fan have having celebrities actual wrestle in single or tag team matches...T is still in the Battle Royal and he still figures in the outcome of the main event.

Orndorff being lost in the shuffle adds to his attitude that he is stuck in a Battle Royal while Hogan is main eventing.

There were a few matches that you could scrap and just add the guys to the Battle Royal though

    Orndorff vs Muraco
    Roberts vs Wells
    Kirshner vs Volkoff
    Steamboat vs Hercules
    Adonis vs. Uncle Elmer

Muraco isn`t really in a program at the time
Roberts needs to be showcase as a newcomer
Kirshner vs Volkoff...could be scarped and both could be added to the Battle Royal
Steamboat vs Hercules...could be scraped and both could be added to the Battle Royal
Adonis vs Elmer.....could be scraped and both could be added to the Battle Royal

So aside from the Roberts match any of the other 4 matches could have been scraped, and had the contestants added to the Battle Royal

None of the 4 matches would really add or detract from the success of the card

Celebs in battle royals just feel really random to me. You're not properly able to showcase them and you know they're not going to be around for the long haul. So what are you really getting out of them by putting them in a battle royal?

Orndorff being lost in the shuffle adds to his attitude that he is stuck in a Battle Royal while Hogan is main eventing.
It's Wrestlemania though, don't you want as many big matches as possible? Isn't that part of the appeal of rebooking an event? Besides, the heel turn isn't going to happen until July. You're really going to stretch out that angle so long at the expense of putting on as big of a Mania card as you can do?

Muraco isn`t really in a program at the time
Not true. He was just coming off of the huge program with Ricky Steamboat and was transitioned into a feud with King Tonga. Not to mention, he played a big role in setting up the Bundy/Hogan program. So there's a reason to originally book Orndorff vs Muraco.

Kirshner vs Volkoff...could be scarped and both could be added to the Battle Royal
The match sucked, but it had a backstory. It's a match that actually makes sense to keep.

Steamboat vs Hercules...could be scraped and both could be added to the Battle Royal
No problem there since you're not doing Steamboat/Muraco and the Steamboat/Roberts feud hadn't begun yet.

Adonis vs Elmer.....could be scraped and both could be added to the Battle Royal
No problem there unless you wanted to stretch out the Hillbillies vs Roddy Piper, Orton and Ventura feud longer by booking Elmer vs Ventura.

So aside from the Roberts match any of the other 4 matches could have been scraped, and had the contestants added to the Battle Royal

None of the 4 matches would really add or detract from the success of the card
I'd argue you're better off keeping Kirchner and Volkoff since there was a purpose.

Keeping with your edited main event, the card I feel that would have been a better idea to maximize how big the show would feel:

Hulk Hogan (c) vs Roddy Piper - WWE World Title
Randy Savage (c) vs George Steele - WWE IC Title
The Dream Team (c) vs The British Bulldogs - WWE Tag Titles
Tito Santana and JYD vs The Funks
Andre the Giant and William Perry vs Big John Studd and King Kong Bundy
Paul Orndorff and Mr. T vs Bob Orton Jr. and Don Muraco
Cpl. Kirchner vs Nikolai Volkoff - Flag Match
    Jake Roberts vs George Wells
    Battle Royal

The only downside is that it's a bit tag heavy. Since Terry Funk is on his way out after Mania, maybe ditch his tag match and instead just book Terry Funk vs JYD with JYD going over. Then Tito Santana and Dory Funk Jr. can be placed in the battle royal. Although, a bigger IC Title match may be better. Swap out George Steele for Tito Santana so you can wrap up that feud. You can still play to the Savage/Steele program by having Savage come out during the battle royal to distract Steele to cause him to be eliminated. It might be good to give Roberts someone a little more interesting as an opponent. Hell, they'd tape a rematch to air on Primetime Wrestling in April, so you're still getting Roberts going over Wells. It could be good to debut Roberts instantly in an angle. Perhaps having him debut in a match against Jim Brunzell with Brunzell being injured with the DDT? Then that would lead to Roberts vs B Brian Blair for Mania. It's still an easy win for Roberts, but you're making the match mean something. So, that would make my final card:

Hulk Hogan (c) vs Roddy Piper - WWE World Title
Randy Savage (c) vs Tito Santana - WWE IC Title
The Dream Team (c) vs The British Bulldogs - WWE Tag Titles
The Junkyard Dog vs Terry Funk
Andre the Giant and William Perry vs Big John Studd and King Kong Bundy
Paul Orndorff and Mr. T vs Bob Orton Jr. and Don Muraco
Cpl. Kirchner vs Nikolai Volkoff - Flag Match
Jake Roberts vs B. Brian Blair
    Battle Royal

    Participants:
    Spoiler:

    Ricky Steamboat
    George Steele
    King Tonga
    Pedro Morales
    Bruno Sammartino
    Hillbilly Jim
    Uncle Elmer
    Danny Spivey
    Jacques Rougeau
    Raymond Rougeau
    Tony Atlas
    Hercules
    The Iron Sheik
    Dory Funk Jr.
    Bret Hart
    Jim Neidhart
    Jesse Ventura
    Adrian Adonis
    Tiger Chung Lee
    Barry O
    Johnny V

Seems like a pretty big show to me.

    Re: TCON Rebooks

    Jim`s Revised card...Wrestlemania # 2

Savage vs Santana..IC Title...makes sense, Santana only lost to Savage a few months earlier, and the Steele/ Savage feud would carry on for another year anyway..I would have Savage beat Santana at least semi-cleanly though
JYD vs Terry Funk....Hoss interferes and they beat down or injure JYD to further the feud
Andre/Perry vs Studd/Bundy...as long as Perry only gets a couple of spots in like knocking down Studd with a shoulder block or something...match should end in a double dq or countout
Orndorff/T vs Orton/Muraco...I still disagree with having T in an actual match..just have him 2nd Hogan in the main event
Roberts vs Blair....Roberts could have face Wells/Blair or any number of lower card guys here
Battle Royal...I would still have Andre in The Battle Royal with him winning it...I would still include Studd and Bundy, and if the OrndorffT vs Orton/ Muraco match did take place, those 4 could be included in the Battle Royal also.

    Re: TCON Rebooks

Why would you want to further the Funks/JYD feud when Terry's on his way out? Besides, Funk and JYD had been feuding for several months. A JYD/Funk singles match at Mania would have been the perfect way to wrap up the program with JYD going over the racist Funk.

    Re: TCON Rebooks

TCON, you're doing a good job here for your revised cards

Here's a card I would have booked for this show

    WrestleMania II

Hulk Hogan (c) vs Bruno Sammartino - WWF Championship
The Macho Man Randy Savage (c) vs Tito Santana - Intercontinental Championship
Rowdy Roddy Piper vs Ricky Steamboat - Special Guest Referee Mr T
The Dream Team (c) vs The British Bulldogs - Tag Team Championship
The Hart Foundation vs The Rougeau Brothers
Paul Orndorff (w/William Perry) vs Don Muraco (w/Mr Fuji)
Terry Funk vs The Junk Yard Dog
    Jake Roberts vs Tony Atlas
20 Man Battle Royal | Andre The Giant, Big John Studd, King Kong Bundy, George Wells, Bob Orton, Corporal Kirchner, Hercules, Nikolai Volkoff, Uncle Elmer, King Tonga, Pedro Morales, Ted Arcidi, Hillbilly Jim, Dan Spivey, Iron Shiek, Adrian Adonis, Killer Bees, Dory Funk and George Steele.

*It's a strong card, I didn't like the original card for this show. With my rebooked card- I'd have Hogan vs Piper for WrestleMania I. Now I've got Hulk vs Sammartino for my WM2 main event. Very rarely did they promote face vs face matches during this time period but this would be a huge match. Bruno was past his prime but he was still in good shape. This would be a huge passing the torch moment.

    Re: TCON Rebooks

Were you one of the guys trying to pimp a Hogan/Bruno match in Ask Jim? God, I had the idea of that match. It just sounds like a complete disaster to try and force those two together.

Other than that, Kingtoro's card is fine. I like it more than TCON's. Only other thing I think that would need to change is to put Harts against Killer Bees instead of Rougeau Brothers. The Rougeau Brothers had literally just debuted a couple of weeks before Mania, so it seems a bit too early to give them the Mania match.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    WWF-The Big Event
    August 28 1986
    Exhibition Stadium
    Toronto, Ontario

    Actual Results

1-Killers Bees pinned Jimmy Jack Funk
2-Don Muraco and Haku fought to a Draw
    3-Dick Slater pinned Mike Sharpe
    4-Ted Arcidi pinned Tony Garea
    5-JYD defeated Adrian Adonis
6-Bobby Heenan, John Studd & King Kong Bundy won by dq over Lou Albano, Big Machine and Super Machine with Giant Machine in their corner
7-Ricky Steamboat pinned Jake Roberts in a Snake Pit Match
    8-Billy Jack Haynes pinned Hercules
    9-Rougeau`s pinned The Dream Team
    10-Harley Race pinned Pedro Morales
11-Hulk Hogan pinned Paul Orndorff to retain The WWF World Title

    ..............

There are far to many matches on this card, and really only 3 marquee matches
Hogan vs Orndorff, steamboat vs Roberts, and the Machines vs The Heenan Family

    ...........

    Match # 1

Killer Bees vs Jimmy Jack & Hoss Funk

I would scrap this match, and put the Funks against The Tag Team Champion Bulldogs later on in the card

    Match # 1

The Rougeau's vs the Dream Team

Nothing wrong with having The Rogeau's win by pinfall in front of their home Country

    **********************

    Match # 2

    Don Muraco vs Haku

    Match # 3

    Ted Arcidi vs Tony Garea

I would scrap both of these matches, and replace it with one match

    .....

    Match # 2

The Iron Sheik vs Roddy Piper

Piper comes out to a thunderous response
Piper puts the Sheik away with the sleeper at the 4 minute mark
Piper looks into the crowd, but doesn`t acknowledge them, and just walks back to the dressing room

    *****************************

    Match # 3

    Billy Jack Haynes vs Hercules

Instead of having Haynes win by pinfall, I would have the match in a double countout or a so neither man has to take a clean lose

    ****************************

    Match # 4

    JYD vs Adrian Adonis

The Countout keeps both men strong

    .......

Adonis would move on shortly to feud with Piper, while JYD would have a program with Race

    **********************************

    Match # 5

WWF Tag Team Champions The British Bulldogs defend against Jimmy Jack & Hoss Funk

Bulldogs win cleanly to retain the titles, with Jimmy Jack taking the fall

    .........................

Hoss wouldn`t be long for the WWF, and Jimmy Jack would continue to slip down the card

    *********************************

    Match # 6

Ricky Steamboat vs Jake Roberts in a Snake Pit Match

Steamboat won the match as the feud is winding down

    ...................

Steamboat would move onto a program with Savage shortly

    *********************************

    Match # 7

Bobby Heenan along with John Studd & King Kong Bundy vs The Big Machine & Super Machine along with Lou Albano-Giant Machine accompanied them to the ring

Instead of The Heenan Family winning by Dq because of The Giant Show's interference
I would have eliminated both Bobby Heenan & Lou Albano from the match

    ........................

    Match # 7

King Kong Bundy & John Studd vs The Big Machine & The Super Machine

Heenan' distraction from ringside leads to Bundy splashing The Super Machine for the win
After the match is over, The Giant Machine gets a hold of Heenan, and head buts him out of the ring

    ********************************

    Match # 8

    Harley Race vs Pedro Morales

    Race wins cleanly over Morales

    ...............

Race would go on to have a Program with JYD

    *******************************

    Match # 9

Dick Slater vs Iron Mike Sharpe

    Slater wins cleanly

    ..........

This should have been a launching point for Slater, but he never ended up doing much in the WWF

    **************************************

    Match # 10

    Main Event

WWF World Champion Hulk Hogan defends against Paul Orndorff

This match was actually booked quite well
Orndorff looked like he was about to win the title, but at the end just fell short

    *********************************

    Summary

Much like The Wrestling Classic morphed into the King of the Ring
The Big Event morphed into SummerSlam

The WWF could have used this Platform as their own Great American Bash Series every Summer

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Fast Forward...NWA World Title....December 1 1985 through March 31 1986

    **************************

The NWA Territory system is all but Dead

World Class has left and is a on their own

Mid-South has left and become the UWF

    Georgia has merged with JCP

There are still smaller territories that are affiliated with the NWA, but even their shows feature JCP talent along with their local talent

Outside of JCP, Florida is the only other Territory left in the NWA

Dusty Rhodes is fully recovered and ready to challenge Ric Flair for the NWA World Title
His first match back will be on April 1 1986

Bruiser Brody is fully recovered, but will not get a shot at Ric Flair unless he wrestles out of the Florida Territory since World Class is no longer a part of the NWA

Over the past 4 months Ric Flair's main opponents in JCP have been Magnum TA & Ronnie Garvin, as well as wrestling in several 6 and 8 man Tag Team matches with the Anderson's and Tully Blanchard
vs different combinations looking to avenge the attack on Dusty Rhodes

Over the past 4 months Ric Flair's main opponents in Florida have been Wahoo McDaniel & Barry Windham

The Florida Territory is also slowly dying
Wahoo McDaniel & BlackJack Mulligan are both well past their prime
Barry Windham & Kevin Sullivan are the two biggest stars in the territory
Lex Luger's career is just starting
Within a year or so all three would leave Florida for JCP

    *********************************

    My Personal Opinion

The NWA Territory system dying off is historically one of the biggest moments in the history of wrestling for several reasons.

1...It drastically cut wrestlers options for work.
2...Wrestlers now signed contracts that kept them in a promotion for an specific period of time, as opposed to moving to a different territory when they had finished a program
or needed a change of scenery to freshen up their character.
3...Instead of the NWA World Champion appearing every once in awhile when he came to a certain territory, he is just in JCP almost all the time
4...With less movement in and out of a territory/company, the pool of viable challengers for the NWA Title is vastly diminished

    **************************

This became apparent within a few months of most of the NWA territories shutting down
Flair still had viable challengers such as Dusty Rhodes..Magnum TA...Barry Windham..Nikita Koloff
But Flair also ended up involved in NWA World Title programs with the likes of Ricky Morton, the Road Warriors, Jimmy Garvin among others

Even though the territories were pretty much dead, wrestlers still had 2 national companies to work for through 2001

Today's wrestling landscape is very different with only one option for wrestlers to go for full time work in North America
TNA & ROH wrestlers still work indy's to supplement their income

Imagine if the territories or at least there were more companies the size of TNA around, how different some wrestlers careers would be

Off the top of my head just looking at present day WWE
A change of scenery would help to reboost/fresehen up their careers

    R-Truth
    Kofi
    Dolph Ziggler
    Big Show
    Miz
    Damien Sandow
    Cody Rhodes
    Titus 0'neil
    Heath Slater
