Slightly discouraging but a bit motivational for me. The highest I've had ever was a 67-68 when I faced Boudreau, so I guess I should start taking a different approach towards what I'm doing. Ryan Hall and Wolf were so ridiculously close, that's insane. I really need to consistently get that 70. I know I can but I have admittedly slacked a bit on my roleplays.

It is very difficult to get a high RP grade when you don't have any depth to a feud. All of the best grades came from well-developed feuds with a ton of history and backstory. There's a reason for that. It allows for deep metaphors — and other literary styles — that are a hell of a lot tougher to pull off when something is thrown together, as was yours. Not your fault, just a timing thing. I guarantee you the same style will score better in a developed feud. Guaran-fucking-tee.

Also you cannot relate a 65 for example now to a 65 back the last time you were here. We periodically switch through graders and I know for a fact I wasn't one of them. For example to get a 70 from me you better bring a mind blowing good RP. It's a grading scale, not a QB rating. Graders change and even then the graders sometimes grade more harshly some shows. Also you had a really good RP... In my personal opinion it was too long for a return promo with no feud though so that's where my points hurt you the most.

Re: Back in Business IX grade rankings

Throughout my entire FWA stint (4 years) I have only encountered 4 RP'ers who could consistently RP 70's. And that's not to say that those 4 are the ONLY ones to ever score 70, but that they are the only ones to do so consistently.

Grades cant really be compared across years/era's etc. as TE said, different graders grade differently. What may have once got a 70 may only now get a 68 or vice versa. Can only really compare grades to the current time/crop of mods.

I had as much of a depth as I can possibly put into a feud/promo and still didn't get over 70. The thing is that graders have unbelievable standards these days and it is impossible to score as much as few years ago. It is no longer out of 80. If you have scored 68 back then it was 68 out of 80. The highest grade one can get is 73 the is the ten out of ten these days. I think it is weird because to set standars like that one has to first show the promo that ranks at 80 as a measuring stick. There are few promos I would personally call a 80 point promo and it was 72 at max. And from analyzing literary shit is where I got my diploma

Re: Back in Business IX grade rankings

Isn't the whole point is there can never be a "perfect" promo? If a promo can score 80/80 then the game is over.. what is the point in trying anymore. Every promo, no matter how loved and awe-inspiring it is going to have a flaw in it somewhere. Whether grammar or just perspective it should never be "perfect"

That's just my philosophy though but if I got an 80 promo I would probably call it a day and hang it up but what is else is there to strive for.

In the end of the day the grades have little consequence other than deciding who wins and who loses. It's the words... the feedback that I crave and what keeps it going. Whether I get a 60 or a 70 it doesn't matter as long as I reach somebody like this week with ETE. It's reviews like that that make me want to write even better promos. Then there is opponents role plays like Wolf that blow me away and make me want to improve. That's what people should be looking for... Promo grades are almost meaningless and the range can change week to week based on a various number of factors.
