Great and emotional final episode of the Last Ride.

I have to say, it felt at the time of watching it; and I still feel that way now, the Boneyard Match and Taker riding off into the night is a great way to end what has been a fantastic career with a lasting legacy if it was indeed the 'last ride' as it seems.

    Thank you, Taker <3

    Amazing memories and moments.

Re: WWE Network General Discussion Thread

I completely agree. Taker riding off at the end of the Boneyard match was perfect and it's really interesting to see how COVID impacted the match.. Originally, Taker intended to wrestle AJ in a straight-up match.

I'll be honest.. At the end of the documentary, I did feel a little irritated that Taker left enough wiggle room for him to return at some point. Saying "If Vince needs me, I'll consider it" is pretty much what he was saying 12-18 months ago.

After the first episode, it was clear to see that the documentary was building to Taker's retirement. Let's just hope that he does stay retired and doesn't end up returning and beginning the whole "redemption" cycle.

Given how much the curtain got peeled back on kayfabe during that, it makes me feel it may be genuine. But, we've seen wrestlers "retire" a million times. So who knows.

I still won't be shocked if he comes back and wrestles Sting next year or Cena.
    Everything will surely be alright.

^ I hope it's sincere, but it did annoy me how he played the "If Vince needs me.." card.

Bollocks. From a psychological perspective, that's his way of rationalising a return to the ring as acceptable because someone else is asking him.

Re: WWE Network General Discussion Thread

I get what you're saying, but when that someone is someone you're as close too as he is with Vince; a Father figure, that's very different to it just being somebody asking him. You can see the bond, his Wife speak's about him doing anything for Vince. He says he would take a bullet for the guy. I wouldn't down play what Vince asking Taker to 'help' means to Mark and the loyalty/bond they have.

I personally think that's him done; he was chasing the redemption and he road his luck in the shit-show with Goldberg. I think that's the best closure he's going to get at this stage and I think it fits perfectly that ending.

However the man writes his own story, he's earned that, if he wants to say never say never- then he can. Better then saying I'm done, that's it, never again- and then coming back to me Haha!

Re: WWE Network General Discussion Thread

I don't buy that Taker is done. This is hardly the first time that it seemed really believable that he was done. You even had news sites reporting on Taker's retirement following the Reigns match. Although he secured the perfect ending with this latest Wrestlemania, cinematic matches have opened up an entire new world to keep Taker going for another handful of matches. A match where you can completely edit how it's shown and even ensure that Taker doesn't have to truly take every bump shown? Think about the duds he's had in recent years. Had they been shown in a cinematic fashion, they could have at least been edited to resemble a classic which completely removes the desire to retire to prevent awful performances.

I do hope that this is it for Taker though. Forget about leaving on a perfect moment, if he keeps wrestling, it's not going to have a happy ending.

Re: WWE Network General Discussion Thread

If the intention of the Taker doc was to make me sympathetic towards him, or hope for another match, it failed.

I think it was a good insight into his mindset, but that certainly hasn't made me feel for him as a person.

If he doesn't wrestle again I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Overall I thought the series was fine but got steadily worse as it went on and by the end I wasn't feeling sorry for the guy, I felt like everything was his own stupid fault.

I did find it interesting that AEW has officially become the new TNA with the WWE refusing to call them by their names, but instead referring to them as simply, "The other guys". If you were unaware of AEW, the Starrcast segment would be so confusing to the point that you might even look into what really happening, thus introducing you to AEW.

Nah, I disagree. Taker's attitude is very much consistent with this train of thought:

"I want to wrestle, but I know that I shouldn't because I'm way beyond the peak of my career. But, instead of putting my family and my own health first, I'm going to disregard what's best for me and be selfish and wrestle anyway. But, what I'll do is claim "If Vince needs me" as an excuse to justify me coming back".

And if you wasn't aware of AEW, and they said AEW, you might even look into the company, thus introducing you to AEW.

Maybe, but I think when you purposely avoid saying something, it stands out more than quickly and casually saying the name.

Agreed 100% and that's what I've tried to illustrate above. It's the psychology of someone who's intent on continuing because it's what they personally want.

How can you say that? They started filming in 2017 and it's now 2020. They couldn't have predicted that his retirement was imminent back then. The series may well not be over for all we know. They could continue filming and release another 5 episodes in a few years time.

Just got done watching the Undertaker documentary series myself.

I absolutely loved it. I thought it was an incredibly interesting insight into who the man behind the character is, his love and passion for the business, and his train of thought behind his continued career. I see above that the series has somehow, amazingly, turned some people against him and possibly even caused respect for him to be lost? Strange.
As far as I'm concerned after watching that he absolutely has earned the right to go out however he wants to. Whether the Boneyeard match will be that exit he's been waiting for or not, time will tell. If he comes back again (for a cinematic match or an actual in-ring match) I won't argue. I'll sit back and enjoy it. Do I think he should wrestle again? Probably not, though I do believe that doing cinematic matches could provide a way for him to produce higher quality matches for a few more years if he wants to. However, I'm not going to tell him what to do and neither should anyone else. He's going out on his own terms, writing his own story. And that's ok, because he's earned the right to do that.

I think it's clear that this was meant to show the end of The Undertaker. The doc started with the Reigns match that 100% was supposed to be the end until Taker realized it sucked and blamed himself. Literally every episode centered around Taker seeking that perfect exit and either not getting it or being too motivated by a good potential exit that he ruins it with another performance that tends to suck.

I think I'm talking about this in the wrong place, I don't actually believe it's a WWE documentary come to think about it; but I'm not 100% sure.

However, anyone seen the Andre Documentary?

I only got the chance to watch it for the first time yesterday. So many things I didn't know, like that he even had a daughter and how young he was when he passed away.

Love how respected he was, and rightly so. Really enjoyable watch

Yeah, it's a really great watch. You can tell just how beloved the big man was. Defo not WWE produced, I believe it was HBO.

    Right? Really enjoyable.

I must be getting old, these documentaries make me emotional Haha!

Just crazy thinking what it must be like, to have been a true giant back then.. Even now, it would be tough.. Can only imagine what it was like back then.

Ahh yeah, HBO! I'm pretty sure you're correct and that's why I couldn't find it for ages.

I do recall on the credits seeing Kevin Dunn as one of the producers, I guess he just helped out though or something. Unless I'm really getting old and completely made that up Haha!

It may have started off with that in mind. Whether this is it though is another matter. Like you said, he kept getting sucked back into it by either him wanting to redeem a bad performance, him thinking he had one more left in him, or Vince asking him back.
Remember, he's under a 15 year contract now. He's not going to wrestle for another 15 years (we hope) but he did say at the end that if Vince is 'in a pinch' and comes calling he'll be back. With ratings as they are right now Vince is always 'in a pinch' for a pop. He'll be calling Taker again for sure, the question will be; will Taker be able to say no to him.

I think it's obvious that the documentary was meant to build towards his retirement and has been edited in such a way. The first episode is almost suggesting Taker's retired but is "coming back for a limited run". It's all focused around his retirement, and when his last match will happen/when he'll be happy enough to walk away.
