    Ah man, this is awful.

Just listening to the Slayer classics right now, I honestly haven't been this bummed about some one dying in a while. I honestly loved him and Kerry when I was first learning guitar, they were some of the first riffs I ever learned. Sad face so hard.

    Then, now, forever.

Man, I had the chance to see them at Mayhem this year, but I decided to see them later on down the road... Totally regretting that decision. RIP to a true legend. \m/

I know he hasn't been doing so well recently, but there was hope he was recovering, and now this happens. Been a big fan of Slayer for a while now, so this is a really sad thing to hear. RIP Jeff.

Re: Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman passes away at 49

Still so gutted about this. Been listening to a lot of Slayer again since hearing the news. Awesome stuff. They were one of the first bands I got into and one of the bands that got me into metal, so I'll always love them. I realize Hanneman has basically been an alcoholic like forever, but I really didn't expect this to happen. I just never envisaged someone from Slayer dying young.

A lot of places seem to be reporting this as if the spider bite a couple of years ago is what killed him. Surely not? I assumed the liver failure was due to heavy use of alcohol over many years.

Watched War At The Warfield and Still Reigning today while doing some work around the house. Really sad I never got to see them live with Hanneman. Gary Holt is a solid replacement but it's just not the same without Jeff up there to me. Really sad he didn't get to play the Big 4 shows either.

From what it sounds like it's possible the spider bite could be it but a lot of sites are waiting for an autopsy to make and definite call on alcohol abuse being the cause. Although it likely was alcohol, the Spider bite really messed him up. Wouldn't be surprised if it was that.

Man Slayer are falling apart. They need to find a drummer and guitarist now. And he should of seeked attention earlier for his flesh eating disease but overall ya, BS. RIP Jeff.

I love Slayer so much but with Dave gone (again) and now Jeff being dead I'd rather they just stop.

What makes you think they'll continue now? I think they're 90% certain to be finished.

I can see them releasing the album which is basically finished and dedicating it to Jeff and then calling it a day. That would be the best thing to do.

Re: Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman passes away at 49

Yeah I don't see Slayer releasing anything more than the album that's generally already done. Araya seems to be getting kind of tired of the road and Kerry has been talking about wanting to do other projects after Slayer is done for a while now. I'm doubtful you'd even see a tour come of that album without Dave and Jeff.

On the bright side this probably opens Kerry King up to the long talked about Zakk Wylde team up that he said he'd never do until Slayer is done. Zakk isn't exactly blazing new ground with his music these days but I'd still be down for that.

    Then, now, forever.

The side project sounds amazing Shaun! But I could see a Slayer tour without Lombardo. Without Jeff is where it dies IMO. Ah well, Slayer haven't been good for about a decade anyway really.

Disagree. Christ Illusion is a good album and there's some great tracks on World Painted Blood.
