Gareth Barry Out of England Squad

Gareth Barry will miss Euro 2012 because of a lower abdomen tear

England and Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry has been ruled out of this summer’s European Championship.

Barry had a scan earlier today [Monday 28 May] which confirmed that he has a tear to the muscle in his lower abdomen.

England Manager Roy Hodgson has called up Everton’s Phil Jagielka to replace Barry.

Hodgson said: “I’m very disappointed to lose Gareth, not only was he a member of my original 23-man squad but he has featured prominently in the England team over the last few years.

"I know how much he wanted to be part of the tournament but I’m sure he will still have a part to play with England after the Euros. I wish him a speedy recovery.”

Hodgson’s England squad of 23 meet up at the team hotel tomorrow [Tuesday 29 May] lunchtime to resume training following the 1-0 victory in Norway.

The deadline for submitting England’s Euro 2012 squad to UEFA is at 11am BST tomorrow.
So Barry out, Jags in. Bet Carrick's regretting that hasty decision now.

Not really. He still wouldn't be first choice (even though he should be).

Barry out is a plus though.

I've been accused of being a lot of things, inarticulate ain't one of them

Barry's been okay this season but I doubt he'd make a significant difference. I'd like to see Lampard take up his role alongside Parker, if Hodgson is going for the 4-3-2-1 or a 4-4-1-1, as expected.

Looks like Frank is following him out, shame considering Lampards terrific end of season form

England falling to pieces, 2-3 weeks earlier than expected

Thats the bad new, the worse news is Jordan Henderson is next on standby
