Re: Best Wrestler in North America Round 2: Chris Jericho vs Eddie Kingston

I'm not as high on Kingston as I have been in the past, so I'm not going to gush over him too much, but this would still be criminal for him to lose to a hack like Jericho.

Literally, I cannot think of anything Jericho does that makes him a better worker than Kingston. Kingston has more personality and is a way better promo guy. Jericho is sloppy as hell while Kingston works stiff. Jericho matches are filler 90% of the way until the end, Kingston matches are built around him taking or giving an ass-whooping. Jericho's acting and gimmick is really hokey, Kingston is one of the most believable, sympathic sellers going. Jericho's finisher is indyrific and he can't even hit it properly, Kingston's finishers actually look like they hurt. Jericho isn't even *that* better of an athlete than Kingston and certainly doesn't use it in exciting ways.

Really I am surprised in 2012 people are still hanging on to the pre-concieved notion that Jericho is good just because he has internet fan cred. It's like people still gushing over Edge is 2008 only later realising that he had sucked for years before that.

I didn't even think much of the Steen match, but the Quack match might be better than any Jericho match ever. For reals. Definitely anything he's done since his return. The Brodie match was also pretty good.

How is a backfist indyrific? Like, at all? It's a pretty basic strike that Kingston connects well with. When I say "indyrific", it means over-complicated or contrived, the Backfist is about as simple of a finisher as you will see these days. The Codebreaker is a variation of a move that was already kinda contrived to begin with (the lungblower). I don't groan every time I see it, James Storm hits it pretty well and uses it more effectively in his moveset, but seeing it used as a finisher is weak. I mean it is getting your face pulled into a guy's knee. Or in Jericho's case, the outside of the shin.

I'm unsure. Both are great, Kingston is probably better now though. Will wait a bit.

Outside of a fist from Big Show, you won't see much just single strike moves in main stream wrestling unless it involves hitting your opponent with your foot as hard as possible(Super kick, Trouble in Paradise, Big Boot). Strikes aren't as big deals in Main stream so I would consider them far more indy than a Code Breaker(Even though the move itself came from Marufuji). I'd say Code Breaker is as indy as a RKO. Not really at all.

The fact Jericho copied the move from Marufuji (who in turn copied the move from crappy Mexican indys) says a lot.

And? I don't see any mainstream guys exactly finishing guys with Backfists now or gaining nearfalls for it.

OK, and how does that mean... anything? "Indyrific" means over-complicated or contrived, i.e. not organic looking. I'm not going to repeat myself, but if you think a Backfist is complicated or contrived then I don't know what to tell you.

Never said Backfist was contrived but seeing how indyrific isn't a defined word in the dictionary, we are going to see two different meanings. Indyrific to me means something you'll only see in the Indies aka The Backfist.

I'm not going to get into a discussion over semantics, but "indyrific" is a pretty widely-used term to describe moves that are convoluted or complicated for complicated's sake. Just so you know for future reference.

I still don't see a list of wrestler's backfisting their way to WWE championships....

Anyway, I might say Kingston but I have watched zip of CHIKARA this year. That being said, I think Jericho is good in his WWE tenure. I don't think his match at Mania was super awesome uber duper but it was a good contest. I think I am of the minority that enjoyed the $#!t out of their extreme rules encounter.

Well keep in mind I'm kinda active so I don't see much of everything around here(Although I was probably avoiding reading anything about the match due to not me seeing it at the time).

    Giving it to Kingston.

Jericho has really disappointed me on his return. The ridiculous vignette build, the trolling, the straight edge angle. If the matches werent so great, it would be a pretty piss poor feud in terms of build and promos.

    Kingston/Steen interactions have been phenomenal.
