    2011/12 Season Review: Your Highlights

As another great season comes to an end we finally have a winner after what has to be one of the tightest, heart wrenching and just all around exciting final days in recent memory. Big congratulations to Manchester City for winning their first title in 44 years after only dropping 2 points at home all season and coming back from seemingly the impossible to take the take from Manchester United right at the death. On the flip side Unlucky Bolton now find themselves going down along with Wolves and Blackburn to the Championship after drawing with stoke.

We's seen some great moments this season from the thrashing of Arsenal all the way back in August to the great escape from relegation once again from Wigan. Not to mention we have been treated to a number of memorable matches between all of the top clubs as well as the mid table and even smaller clubs and even seen surprisingly great runs from the likes of Swansea, Norwich & Of course Newcastle United.

So the big question now is that with the 2011/12 Season now officially over and what can arguably be considered as the best premier league season in history what are your memories from the season of what do you consider to be the highlights of the season for your team or even the other teams in the league. What matches do you feel have stood out above the rest? Who do you feel have been the MVP's throughout the year and did this season live up to your expectations

For me, it's got to be when West Brom rolled into the City of Wolverhampton, and my boy Peter Odemwingie grabbed his first hattrick in English football to batter them 5-1. The result had a huge impact on both our seasons (there was only 5 points between us at kick off), the win started a chain of results which saw us comfortably safe, and it saw the end of Mick McCarthy, the appointment of Terry Connor, and ultimately the relegation of Wolves from the premier league.

I'll be living off that win for years.

Did the season live up to my expectations, I think it exceeded them. Last year we finished 11th, and whilst I didn't fear relegation, I'd put any hope of a top ten finish out of my mind because I thought the previous year we were just riding high on the Hodgson Honeymoon. Our signings in the summer we pretty uneventful, 7 players came in and only Shane Long cost us any transfer money, and I was worried we'd missed a big opportunity to push on. Overall, a top 10 finish, top team in the region for the first time in 30+ years, away wins at Wolves, Villa and Stoke and banishing a few nasty hoodoos against Liverpool and Chelsea have made the season a successful and memorable one.

I guess the most pleasing aspect of the season is that we haven't had to rely on Peter Odemwingie to just win us games again like we did last year. He's been very hot and cold this season, and only scored 10 goals, so it's been important for the likes of Long, Brunt, Morrison etc to step up and do their part in front of goal. Had Odemwingie had a season like this last year, we might well have been relegated; the fact we finished in the top ten despite his inconsistent form proves how much we've grown as a team.

The 5-3 win at Stamford Bridge. Van Persie's late winner at Anfield. Arteta's late winner against Man City. The 5-2 win against Spurs.
The 7-1 win over Blackburn was fun to watch. Henry's winner at Sunderland was a great moment. Vermaelen's last minute winner against Newcastle.

Wish I could say we came back from 4-0 down over two legs against Milan, so close

The 3rd place finish shouldn't cloud over the fact that we need to strengthen. We've had a lot of luck along with those great results. Spurs should've wrapped 3rd up weeks ago really. Gervinho has been poor this season, doesn't sound like he did much better today. Don't know where all his Lille goals came from, his end product has been dreadful for us. We could do with signing a midfielder, Ramsey is inconsistent and Diaby is never fit. Could do with a bit more strength in the middle of the park. I would've said Djourou should be replaced but he recently signed a new deal so doesn't look like anythings changing there. He has bursts of good performances but a lot of his errors lead to goals conceded. I'm fine with Mertesacker, Koscielny and Vermaelen staying. Gibbs is getting better, Santos hasn't done badly when he's come in.

Obviously the main thing though is keeping Van Persie, Chamakh could do with moving on though.

Didn't mean to ramble that much. Very pleased with 3rd place this season.

Very entertaining season, probably the most exciting one ever. Many occasions where I had watched a lot of games and thought I won't watch one as a bit of a break/stop over-kill and when I did that I always ended up missing something, or some fantastic game. One's that spring to mind are Arsenal 5-2 Spurs and Arsenal 3-3 Norwich. Despite all the great entertainment I do have a lot of thoughts that football can be improved, and FIFA needs to stop being awful/Blatter needs to go away. Like Aguero got booked for celebrating that winning goal, I mean come on...

Obviously Villa didn't have a good season, and McLeish has been awful has a manager. Hopefully he gets sacked. When he was appointed his record as a manager wasn't good, and he hasn't improved that record. There was a time when I hoped he could win the fans over and it would be a nice story but it's clear now that that isn't going to happen. This has been floating around, originally posted on a Villa forum I think:

Time to play you're the boss:

You're 2 nil down with 15 mins to go in an end of season nothing match away from home. You currently have 7 defenders on the field.

Your left winger (who is actually a Left Back) in injured. Do you:

    a) bring on an inexperienced CB. Play him at LB. Promoting the current LB (who is a RB) to Left Wing.
    b) play a young inexperienced attacking midfielder who needs game time and looked promising away at the champions a few weeks back.
    c) bring on your 10m marquee signing, who happens to be a winger.

The stand out game and result for Villa was winning 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on New Years Eve which I did enjoy thoroughly.

Re: 2011/12 Season Review: Your Highlights

Just to add my feel on it:

The premier league season as a whole was pretty disappointing as a Pool fan. Esepcially the 2nd half where we pretty much broke down and lost our hold on the 4th place run. Especially when you consider we spent a shit load of money in the Summer to bring in players and none of them really shined that much. Happy we managed to win the Carling Cup though & Make it too the final of the FA Cup too. Does soften the premier league blow a bit. Downing going a whole season with no assist or goals in the league is a bit of a bitch too considering we spent £20m but hopefully he comes good.

As for the season overall it's been to damn great filled with so many great matches. Arsenal/Man U, Man U/Chelsea (3-3), Chelsea/Arsenal, Man U/Everton, Arsenal/Spurs, Man U/Man City earlier on & especially QPR/City on the final day . Can't remember the last time we saw so many goals scored between the top teams in a season. Especially in the early months when the Manchester clubs were pretty much steamrolling everyone in their way. Made for great entertainment from a neutral point of view. Especially the big title decider on the final day. You couldn't right shit like that. Just a great way to end what was a perfect season as a football fan.
