Surprised it took this long, if I'm honest. Hazard is a class player and has served Chelsea well. He wasn't going to stay at Chelsea when they can't upgrade on the not so good squad with no transfers allowed. Hope it goes well for him at Madrid.

Expecting a lot of early movement, but the big clubs in England haven't done much for deals yet.

God I wish the rumors about Xhaka were true, even if it was half of the rumored amount.

£40m rejected for Wan-Bissaka, we're going back with another bid. Palace want closer to £60m for him.

A lot of money for a player who has had one full season (albeit a sensational season) under his belt. The worry is always that he could be a one season wonder, though I think he has th ability to go on to be a top player. I think it's very harsh on Diogo Dalot however, who showed last season that he too has the potential to be a great player.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

Premiums on English eligible players is always stupid anyway. Transfermarkt has him valued at £25m so you almost double that for English players haha. I would personally go for Meunier if they want anything more than £45m for him, as we don't want to be held to ransom over any player.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

I like Meunier, but it depends how much PSG want for him. Anything below £30m and we should go for him for sure. I think Arsenal may beat us to him though unfortunately. Emery has history with him so he could be persuaded that way.
I agree though that I don't want to waste time being held to ransom over players. If we do then we could end up being in elongated transfer negotiations that last months only to eventually never materialise, which would be dissasterous.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

I too would go for Meunier who is ready-made and by all accounts, a United fan. He would be far cheaper then AWB and has great stats when it comes to performances. I think he's like 6,3 as well isn't he? Get's up and down, can play in a couple of positions. No brainer for me. 1 year left on his contract, can't see it being anymore then 30 mil.

I do agree with the notion that if we signed AWB that it would be slightly harsh of Dalot who is a talent. I like the look of AWB and I think he's better then Dalot right now, but if we signed Meunier we have someone ready-made to come in and play while Dalot can be the understudy.

I do wonder though, if we sign AWB- Could this mean that we see Dalot play further forward? RW? He's argubaly had his better games in more advanced positions or as a wing-back. Has good pace and delivery and it's just the defensive side of his game that lets him down. So, wonder if we will see him as a throwback winger should AWB be signed. Them two switching and covering down the right side of our midifled could be interesting and might work out pretty well.

I worry about us signing Bruno Fernandes. He's been class for Sporting- but I'm disappointed every time I see him in a Portuguese shirt and I'd rather keep Pogba as the most advanced midfielder in our team. He had his better games and for me his best position is as a number 10. He's got the qualities. I'd love to see us Rabiot on a free and put him alongside Pogba.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

I would say Dalot is better suited in the RW role too. Ole used him there a few times so obviously sees something in him there. We've seen many wingers converted into full backs, but not too many going the other way, with Bale being the recent exception...perhaps even Sessegnon.

As for Bruno Fernandes, I wouldn't touch him either. There's better and cheaper alternatives out there such as Rabiot and Van Der Beek, plus for the money Sporting are wanting, you could probably get James Maddison who is already PL experienced and won't require the typical settling in time.

If Dalot becomes a regular RW at United, we are in worse trouble than I thought.

    And he scores goals...!

Wan-Bissaka to United? Pretty sure I saw this episode already when it was Zaha.

In fairness Zaha had to contend with Moyes abd sleeping with his daughter (at least that was the rumour haha)

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

I think for Zaha it was a case of too much, too soon. And yeah, Moyes Haha!

Never really got a fair crack at United.

So Daniel James to United has been "officially" confirmed today. 5 year deal with an option to extend it by a year, I think. That's quite long and shows the faith that the club has in being able to develop his raw potential. Excited to see how he gets on.

Hearing more rumours that Lukaku could be off. Have to say, I don't really care at this point. I don't think we've always played to his strengths but some of his performances have been shambolic and I don't think his overall game is good enough for us and the team around him.

In a more direct team where they get plenty of crosses in the box and have actual wingers or fullbacks that can cross a ball- I think he will thrive. But his build up play is non-existent and has let us down a fair few times too many for my liking.

I'd have been interested in an Icardi/Lukaku swap deal but apparently that's been rejected by United who want to claim as much money back as they can for him. Apparently.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

Lukaku would have been perfect in the Fergie days haha, however i'm probably one of the few that would like him to stay. He still guarantees you at least 10 - 15 goals per season, has proved he can be flexible and play across the front line when required to do so too. I'd have more faith in Lukaku putting the ball in the net than Rashford at the moment. I guess if he does go it means more opportunities for Greenwood so that's a bonus.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

I'm being facetious on the Zaha-AWB comparisons.... mostly....

Zaha was actually a bit older when he moved and had 3 full seasons at Palace, but at the Championship level. It definitely wasn't just down to talent as to the reason he didn't really succeed at United. The fact that Wan-Bissaku really only has 1 season under his belt is a bit concerning, but he also got moved from winger to wingback/fullback a bit later, so it does make some sense. I would still worry on that if Arsenal were shelling out 60m for him.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

I tweeted this but thought I would here as well. If anything underlines how bad Woodward is and how badly United need to restructure it has to be this.

Two clubs in turmoil and their approaches to transfers...

    Real Madrid
    Eden Hazard - Chelsea - £89m
    Luka Jovic - Eintracht Frankfurt - £54m
    Eder Militao - FC Porto - £45m
    Ferland Mendy - Lyon -£43.2m
    Rodrygo - Santos FC - £40.50m

    Man Utd
    Daniel James - Swansea - £15m

Big difference between the two clubs though. Real have always spent big no matter what (An odd season here and there as an exception) and can offer almost guaranteed CL football, where as United can't offer that and are going through a reboot. Massive difference for me.

Also let's see what the comparison is by the end of the window

Yeah, whilst it is much preferable to get business done early, you can't really compare the business of us to Real, especially at this early stage.

Things like Hazard to Real will have been in the works for months and pretty much nailed on for quite a while too.

Let's see where we are come the start of August in comparison to the other PL sides.

The whole point is how early they've got their business done! United have known they needed to rebuild from the moment they hired Solskjaer, should have been three over the line by now.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

Real had agreed to sign Eder and Rodrygo before this window and Hazard was as good as done last summer too, so it's only really Jovic and Mendy they would have had to work for in this brief period so far. Yes I would prefer business done earlier in the window, but not with being held to ransom.

Arsenal are in the boat. Lack of clear direction internally means there is a lack of movement towards deals.

Fun story came out that when Denis Suarez arrived from Barcelona on-loan, he was less than 50% fit. Which at least partly explains his complete lack of impact. I would love to blame Barcelona and pretend Arsenal were unaware, but that seems unlikely. More likely the club was informed and they made the deal anyway and that says a whole lot about the decision making mechanisms in place at Arsenal currently.
