Unless Neymar wins the World Cup with Brazil, Ronaldo has it locked down.

It's usually how the Balon D'or goes.

It took 7 days to ruin a 7 year reputation. Foster was the best keeper I've ever seen play for us and seemed to be a top man, but you can't give interviews where you say you'll stay with the club if they get relegated, champion Moore to get the managers job, then refuse to go on preseason training and force a move to Watford of all places. There are ways of leaving a football club with dignity, plenty will leave West Brom this summer, but won't do it via breaking promises to the fans and being unprofessional to their new manager who a month earlier they were pushing to get the job. Sad to see him go the Odemwingie way out of the door with a tarnished rep, he's one of the few in the squad who didn't deserve relegation but I can't be happy he's got his move back to the prem.

Wow, wasn't aware that Foster had acted like that and done those things. Doesn't seem the type. A shame when a player who's done so much and given so much to a club goes out like that.

Yeah it wasn't very widely covered. I think WBA kept it at a don't ask don't tell level as much as possible but from what little I heard he had refused to travel with the team for pre season.

That's some disappointing shit, Ed. Hate when players do that kind of stuff so needlessly.

Reports coming out about Ronaldo agreeing a contract with Juventus. 4 years at 30m per year. If accurate, I was wrong on this being a 200m investment for Juventus. Closer to 250m, as I'm sure there are some big agent fees and bonuses involved.

West Ham are about to land Wilshire. Makes sense. And have also been offered Dmitri Payet back. And are apparently considering it.. WTF is wrong with that club?

For personal reasons, he seems dead set on Juventus.

I still can't believe this Ronaldo thing may be happening. It has come so out of nowhere.

Barcelona wouldn't possibly be helping out a Chinese club with a bit of money laundering. No, that is completely impossible.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

That transfer is bizzare as hell. There's been talk of Barca going after Gundogan, who is essentially a like for like for Paulinho, but still, one season and then back to the same club? Something is a bit off there.
It is a one season loan deal with an option to buy, but it's safe to say that will become permanent I think. Very strange move overall.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

So Arsenal have signed Lucas Torreira. LOVE this signing. Small player but very dynamic. Basically a combination of deep lying playmaker and ball winner. Ranked high in Italy in pass completion, interceptions, ball recovery... Seen some people comparing him quite favorably to N'Golo Kante in some ways, but with more passing skill. Saw one article with a quoted scout saying he is one of the most tactically astute midfielders in Europe. These comments make me happy. Since Xhaka can be effective if allowed to focus on passing, having Torreira as a double-pivot beside him taking care of the defensive duties but still capable of passing the ball effectively could be a game-changer for Arsenal. He could shield the defense in a way that they have lacked for years. So many possibilities....

Matteo Guendouzi from Lorient is a 19 year old French youth international of some potential. I've wanted to manage Lorient on FM18 in large part because he's there. Well that and I like orange.

Still think we could do with a traditional pacey winger to add a bit more dynamism. But hey, we've done way more than the last few windows and we did it early. Happy as fuck with how things have unfolded for Arsenal so far.

Welp Ronaldo to Juve is a done deal. £105m.

Even at his age I feel Madrid could have got more for him which is incredible.

Great deal for all parties. £105m for a 34 year old is great business for Real Madrid, especially considering what he gave them over the last 9 years. Great for Juve because they've got a phenomenal player who still could be at the top of his game for years to come. Plus he'll provide all sorts of off-field benefits.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

Quite remarkable business that they bought one of the best players ever in world football, kept him for close to a decade at his peak, became their record leading goalscorer and won 4 Champions Leagues and they're selling him for a profit at the age of 33 where the usual rule of thumb is no-one moves on for a profit that late in their career.

I can't believe I'm saying this because I've always been pro-Messi, but I really hope he wins Serie A with them because to win the three toughest leagues in European football would just be an astonishing achievement in his career and I really value the desire to remain at the highest level of football and keep challenging himself and not take bigger paydays in shitter leagues. Even better if he can perhaps win the the Champions League with them and match Seedorfs record.
