    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

Antoine Griezmann has confirmed he is staying with Athletico Madrid.

Little bit surprised on this to be fair, thought Barca had him in the bag and was the logical choice but can’t fault this loyalty in the slightest.

However I can’t help thinking that he might have missed a golden opportunity at getting more silverware...

More importantly him pretending he was LeBron James might be the most embarrassing thing in football history.

While I admire his loyalty to Atletico for staying with them (again) when he could have left, I do question how he's handled the situation by making a big circus out of it. I wonder how the fans will react to him when he returns, having booed him towards the end of the season?

Player of his quality will be welcomed back like a king. Sure he stared down the bad road but in the end he stayed true to Atletico.

Haven't we got Ronaldo about to announce what he's doing as well?

Can imagine Ronaldo will stay now especially as he's sorted his tax case...unless the new gaffer wants Neymar then we'll probably see Ronny go to PSG as part of the deal.

Wolves have signed Rui Patricio for free.

If Liverpool are going to spend £60m on Allison it's madness considering Patricio was available for free.

Patricio was always heading to Wolves due to the Jorge Mendes factor. Would not be surprised if a few of the other Sporting rebels end up at Wolves too.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

I don't think Patricio is considered quite on the same level as Allison. Patricio is a solid keeper but Allison is generally regarded as world class. And perhaps more important, capable of playing the way that Klopp wants to. Getting Patricio would be switching to a different keeper who is at a similar level rather than improving the position. The money they will have to spend on Allison is crazy... but the Van Dijk signing shows what a player who is a legit improvement can do for the side.

This Sporting CP story is just crazy, though. To lose a player like Patricio, who they had bids of like 20 or 25m for within the past few weeks, and get nothing in return... I've mentioned before, but hoping Arsenal land Gelson Martins.

No keeper is worth the amount of money quoted for Allison. I think it's laziness going after him for an absurd amount of money instead of taking the time to look for a more affordable alternative. I think Patricio is an excellent keeper who is miles better than Karius and would fit in at nearly every top team (except very specific team builds like Barcelona and Man City).

What a coup for Wolves. Brilliant signing on a free. Arsenal have a limited budget so I’m annoyed that we didn’t go for Patricio instead of Bernd Leno. I’m still glad that we’re signing a new GK. Arsenal will hopefully announce Leno tomorrow.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

Arsenal have signed German Goalkeeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen for £19.3m. Great news. Really didn't think we would sign a GK after we gave Cech the #1 shirt. Cech’s best days are long gone. I don't know much about Leno but he’s young and experienced with potential to develop further. Better than what we currently have. From what I’ve read, he was poor last season and made some high profile errors. Can't be worse than Cech. Hopefully a change of club and coaching for Leno will bring out the best in him. Hope he proves to be a fantastic buy.

Jack Wilshere is leaving Arsenal. Right decision for both parties. Jack was Arsenal through and through but he was too injury prone. Good player for us when he was healthy. Should have sold him last season but now he’s going on a free. Wish he could have reached that potential but it wasn’t to be. Must be a tough time for him right now, missing out on the England WC squad and now leaving his boyhood club. He was ready to take a pay cut but his playing time would be very limited if he stayed.

He wants game time, surprised that he didn’t want to fight for his place. He’ll end up at either West Ham or Palace as he prefers to remain in London. Hopefully he’ll get his career back on track. Not going to miss him but I will miss the “what do you think to Tottenham” chant. Wish him well at his next club. Best of luck for the future.

I don’t know much about Lucas Torreira but he seems to be an exciting talent. Very highly rated and cheap in today’s market. He’s small but his style is similar to Kante. If we get this deal done then that would be great.

Another CB, CM and winger would represent a fantastic window. The Wenger era has well and truly ended. Very good window, so refreshing as Unai Emery is addressing the problems Arsenal had for many years. We needed a GK and that’s done. We now have depth at right back. We need two defenders so Sokratis is coming in soon but that’s not enough, we need one more CB. We needed another midfielder and it’s almost done. Ramsey needs to sign a new contract.

Now time to sell a few fringe players to trim the squad and bring in more signings. If Arsenal don’t bring in a winger then keep Lucas Perez but if they do then sell him. Would keep Mustafi for one season to see if he improves under Emery.

Arsenal have done some pretty good business thus far for sure. Leno & Lichtsteiner are both great additions to the side. Seems like Sokratis could be on his way too.

Didn't realise Wilshere started at Arsenal so young, still its the right call for him. Hopefully he can move to somewhere where he can get a good amount of gametime and stay fit.

It's been a relatively cheap window for Arsenal to address those issues too, so top work so far by Emery.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

Leno was generally considered the 2nd best keeper in the Bundesliga after Neuer, so I'm pretty tickled by the buy. Giving the prices being quoted for some other top level keepers, that could be quite a bargain.

Sampdoria president has said that Torreira is going to Arsenal, which is another really good buy. Not the pure defensive mid that a lot of Gooners have coveted but a really nice combo of deep lying playmaker and ball winner.
