Why not list every third choice striker in the Premier League as a target for us. Ridiculous. We're aiming at low quality players because our manager and recruitment teams are at odds with each other. I think we'll be waving goodbye to Antonio Conte this summer and I don't blame the guy. Of all the players in and out of teams in the league I'm surprised we haven't been linked with Gabbiadini or even a cheeky bid for Gameiro with Costa's arrival at Atletico.

We've been linked with Dzeko and that would be a decent backup signing but I think the domestic transfers are more to do with those who can play in CL and be cover for Morata, something that Dzeko cannot do. Also lowering our target LWB with Emerson Palmieri coming in instead of Alex Sandro, who has been a long term target. I won't say much on Emerson as the last Serie A left-back we signed under the radar turned out alright.
I assumed they were just trying to fill their Homegrown talent quota (hence Drinkwater in the summer, Barkley now and being linked with the likes of Carroll, Crouch and Barnes, not to mention they went for AOC in the summer before we got him too).

Literally no other logical reason behind it all. I can’t buy it as padding out the squad when As you mentioned they’ve literally got another squad worth of players out on loan.

We've currently got 15/17 before Batshuayi departs. I definitely think it’s more to do with saving pennies and not trusting the manager to be here past July.

Then allowing the new gaffer spaces to fill with players he wants...that's a wise move...they need it not to backfire though.
I have a plan so cunning......

The swap deal is done. Good bye, Alexis. Thank you for the goals, the passion, endless effort, the brilliant passes, the bad passes, the fits and strops, and of course, Atom and Humber.

    And welcome, Henrikh.

    Unbelievable Jeff

Given how nailed on it was that Sanchez was going to City I'm delighted that we've completed this move. Miki's a great player but Sanchez is world class so we've upgraded.
I do wonder who Sanchez plays instead of though. I think Sanchez has to start providing that he comes out the traps and plays at his best. Martial, Rashford and Lingard look to be battling it out for the other wide berth with Mata playing in the hole.

It wouldn't shock me to see him slot in the #10 role in an interchangeable 3 behind Lukaku.

That works too. Great thing about Sanchez is that he's super versatile. He can play in any of the 3 attacking midfield roles or he can play as a striker. Makes for a potentially unpredictably attacking front 4 for us. Imagine us playing a front 4 of Rashford, Sanchez, Martial and Lingard. That would be lethal for pace.

Finally it’s all done. Welcome to Arsenal Henrikh, great addition to our team. Hope he proves to be a success here. Goodbye Sanchez. Now Arsenal need to bring in Aubamayeng, a top class defender and sort out Ozil and Wilshere’s contracts in this window.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

I'm quite intrigued by how Mourinho will use Sanchez, to be honest. Will he get a free attacking role like he had at Arsenal? How will Mourinho deal with some of the negatives to Sanchez's game?

Had a look at some stats. His pass competition percentage this season has been 73%, and it was 74% last season. He seems to turn the ball over a lot, make a lot of bad passes, and sometimes in bad spots. It seems worse than it used to be. In 2014-2015, he was at 80% pass completion. Its not all on him - some of that is the players around him and the overall "style" of play. That has declined and pretty much outright disappeared in recent seasons. But still... he's completing about 10% less passes that other comparable elite attacking / creative players in the Premier League. For a team that still tries to play creative, ball possession, attacking football, that's been a bit detrimental.

City are apparently going to trigger Aymeric Lapotre's £60m release clsus to sign him from Bilbao.
Good move to shore up their defense as he's got the potential to be one of the world's best. I always sign him on FIFA and he always goes on to be a beast on there. Not that FIFA is anything to go by.

Kennedy has gone on loan to Newcastle from Chelsea.
Raw talent is how I'd best describe him. He has potential to be a great attacking full back though.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

Laporte would be a good signing, and given what they would have to spend on Evans....

Listened to a couple of podcasts talking about the Sanchez-Mkhitaryan swap deal. The Football Ramble made a point I saw a couple of times on Twitter - Gooners really didn't react all that much to the image of Sanchez in a United shirt at Old Trafford that saw the light of day before the deal was official. When that happened six months ago with Oxlaide-Chamberlain in a Liverpool shirt, there was backlash. Much less now. It seems like a lot of Arsenal supporters are just tired of that Sanchez drama. I think that's also why the react to getting Mkhitaryan has been relatively positive. Short of going back in time to make the club make more logical decisions, this is one of the best possible outcomes. Arsenal are losing a very good to great player for 14 matches and getting a good to very good player for the next couple of seasons. The entire supporter-base was resigned to him leaving this summer. We've spent a year accepting that. You get told that something unacceptable is happening enough times and you just start to accept it. Once you've accepted that we get nothing for Sanchez, getting something feels okay. And when that something is a player we wanted a couple years ago and is two years removed from being the best player in the Bundesliga, it feels quite okay. And that seems to be how a lot of Gooners are approaching it.

I legitimately haven't seen any Arsenal supporters that I follow on any form of social media trying to argue the club made out great, got the better player, or anything like that. its all been pretty measured and with respect to the given context of the situation. I'm sure there are some blindly celebrating out there, screaming illogical things. I work under the assumption (perhaps hope) that a lot of those kind of supporters are fairly young, which is another thing the Ramble mentioned. Obviously not all are - as Arsenal TV sadly proves.

The Arsenal pursuit of Aubameyang still strikes me as strange and getting stranger. Wenger has been talking about it and acknowledged it. That's pretty counter to his typical approach with transfers. He almost always pretends they aren't happening, even if its 24 hours from being announced. Although I hope he comes to the Emirates and scores bundles of goals, it really stinks of desperation to me at this point.
