Firminho, Ibe, Lallana and Coutinho aren't strikers.

Could be a brilliant piece of business. He could play, he just couldn't stay healthy. Even if his injuries continue, its no risk for Albion. Nice move.

Exactly what I was going to point out. They also can't count on Sturridge being healthy, Lambert is 33 and scored 2 goals last year, and Balotelli is Balotelli.

Firmino played as a striker for Brazil, but he is better off the front. Liverpool needed a striker, as Sturridge isn't fit, Ings isn't as good as people think, and Origi is terrible.

That being said, they have overpaid for Benteke too.

In light of Gardos's injury and Alderweld being gone, I'd love for Koeman to dip back into his past and bring Kongolo over, he's already a starter for Feyenoord (so some champion's league knowledge), has made appearances for Netherlands, including one at the World Cup, and obviously got boat loads of potential. I also have partial bias because he's arguably the best player to come out of Congo DR besides Bolasie and Mbokani so yeah, would love to see him come along to Southampton. Though looks like he's more poised to go to one of the Manchester clubs (with a younger brother at the Manchester City academy) or even Newcastle than he is Southampton. Still, we could really use him.

They've been linked with James Chester from Hull but I expect them to make a go at Van Dijk.

Manchester City striker Stevan Jovetic is to undergo a medical at Inter Milan on Tuesday.

The Italian club revealed on Twitter that the Montenegro international will arrive in Milan on Monday ahead of his move from the Etihad which will be a two-year loan deal, according to Sky sources.

The forward joined City from Italian club Fiorentina for £22m in July 2013 but has struggled to hold down a first-team spot at the Etihad due to a succession of injuries.

The 29-year-old left the Nou Camp in the summer after four and a half years contracted to the Spanish giants.

He struggled to hold down a place there and made just nine starts for the Catalans, spending last season on loan to Greek side Olympiakos following a previous temporary stay at Schalke.

Afellay – who has 50 caps for the Netherlands – left Barcelona when his contract expired so the PSV Eindhoven youth product is a free agent.

    Stoke doing good business again.

Albion are allegedly closing in on the signing of Bakary Sako, that'll go down well in Wolverhampton

I assume he speaks french, and Montreal is pretty bilingual anyways so he shouldn't have a hard time with the language. Hope he tears up the league.

French is the official language of Cote d'Ivore, so he does speak it.

Hoping he does well as well.

He'd been linked with an MLS wasn't a surprise as such to me I just didn't see it being Montreal.

I'm not bashing Montreal it just wasn't a club I saw him joining.

The French language may have played a role. And sports fans in Montreal are pretty rabid. But the MLS rules likely played a part too. Not sure how much you know about the league structure, but there is a league mandated salary cap for every club. Each club has two "designated player" spots, for "star" players to whom they can offer contracts that don't fit under the normal salary cap. It is how clubs can land players like Beckham, Gerrard, Henry, etc. So if a team didn't have a free designated player spot, they wouldn't be able to offer Drogba a contract big enough to get his attention. I honestly don't know what clubs have free slots right now and which don't, but Montreal may not have had a great deal of MLS competition because of that.

Ahhh no I didn't know that but that works essentially the same way as the marque player rule that the Rugby Football League just introduced into the Super League where every club has a salary cap to abide by but you can throw and much money at one player as you want to.

Makes sense, Ignacio Piatti is apparently their first DP. Drogba makes two.

Super Rugby would be a decent comparison.

As a league structure, the MLS is fairly unique. Its a single entity structure, with the clubs and all players contracts actually owned by the league. The franchise owners are considered "shareholders". Its to maintain centralized control over spending, so you can't get a "rich investor" situation like we see in the Prem. That actually happened back in the 1970s when the New York Cosmos had the likes of Pele, Carlos Alberto, and Franz Beckenbauer. The sport became quite popular in the US at the time, and the Cosmos drew huge crowds but other clubs tried to spend to keep up with the Cosmos and the league folded by 1984.

I'm not 100% on this, but its a bit like how the national rugby federations seem to own and run the Super Rugby franchises in their given nations rather than having stand alone owners, at least as far as I can research. If that's accurate, then it would be similar to that but for the entire league.

Only time I've seen Adebayor perform in a while is under Sherwood in his time at Spurs, maybe he can get the best out of him.

God Berbatov is going to Villa as well, what year do they think it is?

Berbatov and Adebayor is such a Tim Sherwood strike partnership.

James Chester is apparently joining us tomorrow from Hull, not a priority position, but we need a younger centre back. Diaby is going to france.
