Who could have the next undefeated streak at Wrestlemania?

I saw this topic on another site and I think this will be a nice discussion on WC

    The Streak.

Although The Undertaker has accomplished a plethora of incredible things throughout his storied WWE career, that’s what he’ll always be remembered for: Going 19-0 (soon to be 20) at WrestleMania.

It’s an undefeated streak that most wrestling fans think will never be matched. The logic is that no one, no matter how young, over or talented, will ever go on a substantial winning streak at the WWE’s biggest pay-per-view of the year.

And truth be told, the odds are against it because the most obvious challengers to The Streak have already lost at WrestleMania at least once. Randy Orton, John Cena, CM Punk and Sheamus have all tasted defeat on the grandest stage of them all.

So if not any of the WWE’s four biggest stars, then who?

Of the “next tier” of up-and-coming superstars, the following have all already lost at WrestleMania (main card only) once or even more than once: Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler, Alberto Del Rio, Wade Barrett and Kofi Kingston, among others.

Three other up-and-comers—Sin Cara, Zack Ryder and Daniel Bryan—have yet to even have their first WrestleMania match, so theoretically, I guess they’re still alive in the sweepstakes to be the next WWE superstar with an undefeated streak at WrestleMania.

But only one rising star has never lost on the main card of WrestleMania: The Miz.

Yes, The Miz lost a pre-show dark match at WrestleMania 25 in 2009 when he and John Morrison fell to The Colons (Primo and Carlito) in a tag team titles unification bout. But this is the WWE, and the results of dark matches are generally swept under the rug here.

The Miz is 2-0 on the main card at WrestleMania, having won the WWE Tag Team Championship match at WrestleMania 26 in 2010, when he and The Big Show—collectively known as ShowMiz—beat John Morrison and R-Truth in the show opener, and of course, also having beaten John Cena for the WWE Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 27.

Of all the superstars currently on the main roster, The Miz is in the best position to go on a magical winning streak that could potentially extend his Ws into the double digits.

For starters, he doesn’t have much competition. As noted before, most of the WWE’s fastest rising stars have already earned themselves a loss or two at WrestleMania, meaning that even someone who could be around for the next 20 years, like Rhodes, is never going to be 15-0 at WrestleMania.

But it’s not just what his fellow WWE superstars have or haven’t done that sets The Miz apart from them. It’s what The Miz himself has done both on the grandest stage of them all and in the WWE in general.

He’s had just two opportunities to compete at WrestleMania, and he won both matches, including one in the main event against the WWE’s biggest star. He also had the longest WWE Championship run in recent history and has generally been treated like a bigger star than most other guys in the company.

How many superstars have been thrust into the middle of the feud between Cena and The Rock? How many superstars have wrestled against The Rock in the last eight years or went toe-to-toe with The Rock on the microphone?

Not many. But The Miz has done both of those things.

Clearly, the WWE sees something in The Miz if the creative team and Vince McMahon are willing to send him out to talk shows, have him do all this PR work for the company and put him in the ring with two of the biggest names in wrestling history.

Ziggler, Rhodes and Barrett can’t say that. Neither can Kingston, Del Rio or Bryan.

The Miz is never going to legitimately threaten The Undertaker’s 20-0 mark, but he might very well go on a lengthy winning streak that will still be going on 10 years from now.

    Source: Ringsidenews.com
Practically no one deserves to have an undefeated streak but I think Wrestlemania needs something Mythic about it. Personally I think the Miz is also a good idea but maybe someone in development can rise to the occasion.

    Your thoughts?

I'm biased since I like Miz but I was thinking about this as well. They should really play into a streak gimmick yearly. Then Miz could lose at Mania in a few years, and the next guy with the longest active streak can lay claim. It makes sense that way.

Re: Who could have the next undefeated streak at Wrestlemania?

No one from the current roster will come close. Another generation, maybe. But not this one. There is non way they will run with the Miz to get a Mania streak. He's still not credible enough. Besides he could yet be put in Teddys team which are highly likely going to loose. So there goes the streak.

The best chance at the streak in recent years was Edge who was 5-0 at one point I believe. But that ended. The streak will not be repeated, even if it is it won't reach 20-0. And it defeinatly won't be Miz who goes on a Mana streak.

    No-one.

    It'll be untouched.

TBF I did forget that Rhodes got beat, as I had quite a bit on him having a bit of a WMania legacy.

    John Cena at WrestleMania XXIX

Why? because he will be the only true one left and plus they could build around their previous match at Vengeance '03 so if they do this it could be 10 Years in the Making or something.

Like the Undertaker's streak, I think it'll be down to luck more than anything. I doubt WWE would ever say "right, we're going to give this person x amount of wins and no defeats at Wrestlemania". For Undertaker, they just realised at one point that he was undefeated and decided to make it a storyline - it wasn't something that was planned from the start. So in that regard, it's very difficult and I doubt we'll see anything like Taker's streak again.

It will happen out of luck to start. But i think the idea of a Wm streak is really stupid. Its not like the person has a real undefeated streak like Goldbergs. Having a undefeated streak at an event every year never sat well with me. Plus at this point, it makes the outcome to predictable.

Yeah I believe it was right before Taker V HHH 1 at Mania 17 that they realised he's won the last 8 Manias or something like that. Before that win they never even mentioned it. So I doubt we will see another person go really undefeated like that. Defo not anytime soon anyway. I believe Cena had a good run at 4-0 & Edge like mentioned at 5-0 which were the best ones to take it but since they lost I can't see anyone else coming close.

Never gonna happen again. With undertaker it was believable but who else can do it and be believable. I don't really want a new streak. Leave it alone and let Undertaker have the glory of it.

I honestly don't think it would be believable with anyone else especially The Miz. He get to 4-0 or even 5-0 but nothing will come of it.

Jon Motherfreakin' Moxley. One of the few wrestlers that WWE has signed with a legit badass gimmick, if anyone deserves it - it's him.

Re: Who could have the next undefeated streak at Wrestlemania?

I join the consensus on this one that it's just never going to happen again. Truth is, it was fluke that the streak even came to be, and I think that if another one was ever to be had it would have to come about the same way. I don't really see the WWE trying to plan out a streak with someone, and to do so would be kind of short sighted even thought you are long term planning. There's so many things that could happen to effect that, they'll never roll the dice on it. Let's say Jon Moxley as noted above, comes in and they said "okay Jon, we need a new Phenom, a new person to have a winning streak at Wrestlemania and we want you to be that guy". There's no telling if he's going to get over, if he'll be able to sustain success should he get over, if he'll stay with the company that long or if they'll want him to, there's always the possibility and likelihood of injury and to what degree we can't conceive, if it's a career ending injury that's it, end of the road, no more streak, investment lost. Something tells me they will INTENTIONALLY see to it that no one ever parallels the streak. I think they will always and forever let the legend of the Undertaker live on, never to have an equal.

Re: Who could have the next undefeated streak at Wrestlemania?

I see the most likely option is a heel (let's say Miz for now) realizing his supposed streak, then after building up his next mania match, centering around the grand streak, he loses, ending the streak and getting that miniture rub for an up-and-coming face by ending a streak. Never mind the fact that the streak was made up of about three wins and no-one'll remember such a thing in three months, but still.

Re: Who could have the next undefeated streak at Wrestlemania?

There are not many choices first off, it would need to be someone who is fresh and has no previous losses and not just on a winning streak. In the current generation i don't know if there is someone deserving of such a push either. Even to make a streak go 10 years shouldn't be something given to an average joe. Maybe years from now there will be a next up and coming star who could make a push for this worth doing but not now. Really it may be best to be left alone as its likely never going to be topped so it shouldn't be done to a lesser extent.

From what i see so far it seems Cody Rhodes may have a bit of a Royal Rumble legacy? From the ones i have seen so far he always seems to last a long time?
