I think this year will prove to be a breaking point and we'll see less indy shows next year. Some shows like CHIKARA and CZW don't appear to have drawn well.

Re: WWN (EVOLVE) General Discussion Thread

It definitely went overkill to a degree this year and like you said, some of those promotions won't appeal as a PROGRESS or a EVOLVE will. If anything, do what GCW did and guarantee that your show is going to be fun as fuck. How many people actively cared about GCW before WM weekend and the Janela show? CZW tried with doing Best of the Best this weekend but it also came after like seven shows that day.

Wrestling as a whole as of late has been about "is it too much?" And we're learning with these long big WWE shows and these stacked weekends that yes, there is such a thing called too much wrestling. For fucks sake, there's going to be midnight shows AFTER Mania tonight

Entirely depends on how much theyre making tbh. For a lot of these companies its also a chance to reach a market they havent been in before. I imagine that if the majority profitted, theyll be back around for Summerslam and most big PPVs coming soon.

Oh I'm in no doubt the talent are enjoying the atmosphere & the big weekend payday. It's just a hell of a slug if you're used to working 1 show a night weekends usually.

True. Im curious as to how many matches Matt Riddle has wrestled this month since he did a 10 day stretch during the 16 Carat weekend.

According to Cagematch, he's wrestled 26 matches since the beginning of March.

For comparison, he'd only wrestled 15 times the first two months of the year.

Wonder if he had the most in March? Dude is great but I hope he doesn't burn himself out.

Drew McIntyre's last two matches are against Zack Sabre Jr. in a non-title match (at EVOLVE 82) and Matt Riddle in a non-title I Quit match (at EVOLVE 83).

First title defense for Matt Riddle will be against Timothy Thatcher (MOTYC!) at EVOLVE 82

EVOLVE Tag Team Champions Fred Yehi & Tracy Williams finally defend against Chris Dickinson & Jaka at EVOLVE 82

ACH vs. Austin Theory set for EVOLVE 82. No reason this won't be good.

Also confirmed for EVOLVE 82 is Keith Lee vs. Kyle O'Reilly.

For EVOLVE 83, Zack Sabre Jr. defends against Lio Rush. And there's also a Kyle O'Reilly vs. Fred Yehi match set. I imagine Lee will beat O'Reilly and O'Reilly will get some redemption against Yehi.

EVOLVE is smartly moving their Chicago show earlier in the day to get a double header with the NXT Takeover show that got confirmed afterwards.

Thought Kyle O'Reilly had the two best matches of the Evolve weekend with Keith Lee (odd false finish) and Fred Yehi. I'm all in on Kyle's return to Evolve.

Still miss my monthly great match from Chris Hero though

1 day after saying I wasn't that big a fan of Keith Lee, I watched his match with Riddle from Evolve 87 and goddamn it's fantastic

Highly recommended match and a totally awesome finish. As far as I'm concerned Lee is the man and one of EVOLVE & the US indies' finest performers.

Re: WWN (EVOLVE) General Discussion Thread

Caught my first ever EVOLVE shows, watching 88 and 89 the passed couple of days. The first show didn't really do much to impress me to be honest. I found very little appealing about the entire undercard but I did feel that there was a possibility good matches were being made pedestrian by a lacklustre crowd and a one man commentary booth - which I'm very much not a fan off. I thought the tag titles match was building into something really good and then came the burning hammer that didn't end the match and it totally fell off the rails for me then.

Sabre vs. Thatcher was fucking great though. I'm really starting to enjoy what ZSJ does. I'd seen bits and pieces of him all over and then I enjoyed most of his CWC stuff but I never really got the hype of him; maybe it's just that his style takes some getting used to but over the passed couple of months I've fully bought into what everyone has been saying for a very long time and I'm not actively excited about seeing him whenever I see his name of an advertised card.

Second night and everyone not named Thatcher and Sabre had a much better night... except for Austin Theory who looks great but does nothing for me at all and his match with Trent was a total stinker. Overall though, very fun show and the better of the two, although the first night's main event was excellent.

Re: WWN (EVOLVE) General Discussion Thread

Agreed that Thatcher/ZSJ was decidely awesome, and another thing that I loved was that it was different than their first two matches. These two have some of the best chemistry around and it's great to see. I thought Thatch putting the belt on ZSJ at the end was a cool moment too especially after the great moment of Stokely trying to motivate Thatch with the title. I had it at ****. The reason ZSJ's CWC work wasn't great was because ZSJ had a bit of a down year, but also because there isn't a better person for his style in WWE than Thatcher. ZSJ's had a great year, but it's no coincidence his two best matches have been here.

Was really surprised the tag titles changed hands but it's for the better since I'm not big on Jaka/Dickinson. Henry/Drake was an interesting choice, loved that the threat of open challenges have a threat of a title change at least.

I liked Theory/Trent. Maybe I'm crazy but I think saying it was a stinker is way harsh. Priscilla looked amazing.

What'd you think of Page/ACH, Raiz?

I'll have to go back and check out their other matches because I think that might make the whole story of this match even better. I understood that Thatcher has disrespected Sabre by not handing him the championship after he won it from him, which is not the done thing in EVOLVE and Zack made that very clear in his promo at the end, so I don't feel like I lost much by not having seen their previous stuff... but if something I like can be made better by seeing something else that I'll almost definitely like as well, why wouldn't I do that?

Love me a nice goth, so yeah, Priscilla did look amazing, I agree... but, for me at least, once she started talking things just careened down a hill and into a wall made of garbage until all three of them left.

It's different strokes for different folks though, I can see Theory's appeal, I can see Trent's appeal and I can certainly see Priscilla's appeal, I just didn't enjoy this at all.

I thought it was wrestling comedy gold. I took it for what it was and how it was presented, which was two guys who believed they deserved better taking the time they were given to take the piss out of the poe faced and overly serious presentation of the EVOLVE brand. ACH teaching Page how to get out of a wristlock was something of actual beauty and Page set the whole thing up so well before they even started by saying he'd teach ACH how to promo if ACH taught him some wrestling tricks, which meant the calling the spots out loud worked as a bit instead of something that ruined the experience of watching a pro-wrestling match and hoping to buy into it as a real competition.

Re: WWN (EVOLVE) General Discussion Thread

All is not well in the FloSports/WWN relationship:

PWTorch has learned that FloSports has filed a lawsuit against WWN, which is the parent company of EVOLVE, FIP, Style Battle, Shine, and ACW. The lawsuit was filed on Sept. 15 in Travis County, Texas. PWTorch has obtained a copy of the lawsuit, which states that WWN misrepresented financial data from the events it was putting on in terms of iPPV and VOD buys. As a result of the misrepresentation of data, FloSlam claims they were induced into paying WWN hundreds of thousands of dollars.

You can view a PDF of the lawsuit here: D-1-GN-17-005152 PETITION

FloSports contends in the lawsuit filed that when they asked WWN for spreadsheets to back up their claims on their iPPV and VOD buyrates, that they were told that the data was lost. WWN eventually sent FloSlam the data requested, but FloSlam contends in the lawsuit that was filed that subscribers were listed more than once and DVD purchasers were included, which should not have been factored in with iPPV and VOD purchases.
In the lawsuit filed in Travis County, Tex., Floslam is seeking damages of 1 million dollars from WWN. The causes of action are listed as breach of contract and negligent misrepresentation.

PWTorch reached out to FloSports SVP and General Counsel Paul Hurdlow prior to obtaining a copy of the lawsuit. Hurdlow said that FloSports’s position would be made clear in the lawsuit. Hudlow did tell PWTorch that the hope from FloSports perspective is that lawyers from both sides can continue to work together and reach an agreement out of court. PWTorch tried to follow up with Hurdlow again and was referred to FloSport’s PR agency for further comment

WWN owner Sal Hamaoui was contacted by PWTorch for comment on the lawsuit, but he had no comment at the time and told PWTorch to contact his lawyer, Sam Heller for further comment on FloSlam’s lawsuit against WWN. At this time, Heller does not have an official statement on behalf of WWN, but this story will be updated once an official statement is made.

PWTorch reached out to multiple WWN sources for comment on the story. One source noted that WWN says the lawsuit is seen as a scare tactic from FloSports to get out of a legally binding contract. The source noted that WWN is planning on counter suing on multiple accounts. Another source told PWTorch that WWN is currently in negotiations to end their current agreement with FloSports early.
What on earth does Floslam even offer besides WWN family shows? Floslam seems to get less and less relevant as the months roll on.
