Another quarter final that is fairly straight forward. I love Sting's early stuff, it was great especially the Vader matches. But Eddie's best match was actually better than that and was pretty damn consistent across the whole decade. Sting at his best (as in, his best matches) was arguably better, but he had a lot of bad years where as Eddie did not.

Sting getting to the Quarters then losing sounds just about right.

Had Sting just been an alright wrestler after his return at Starrcade, I'd probably give him the vote. However, Eddie not having a "Bad" period helps him beat out Sting.

I got to go with Eddie on this one. Sting's 1997-1999 stuff wasn't anything special IMO.

Re: WCW 90's Quart-Final: Sting vs Eddie Guerrero

I think EG gets way over hyped due to his untimely and unfortunate demise, and all his body of work gets the same treatment as a result. Sympathy votes.

I won't deny that EG was a better or more entertaining wrestler than Sting, but you're comparing two completely different animals here. Sting was a bigger guy with a more traditional wrestling style completely different from the Lucha Libre style of one Eddie Guerrero. Of course Eddies high flying and more technical style of wrestling was more eye pleasing, giving the perception of him being better when looking strictly at what they did in the ring.

Keep in mind however that before most of the wrestling world had ever even heard of Eddie Guerrero, Sting was a big time player whose style and character were already massively over to the point that he was facing off against Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen, been established as thee franchise player of WCW, had a big feud with the Deadly Alliance which consisted of Paul Heyman, Steve Austin, Rick Rude, Arn Anderson, Larry Zbyzco, and Lex Luger. Not a bad resume, and that's just the first couple years of the 90's. When we get away from the Surfer Sting and get into Crow Sting, that is the body of work that most people who are fans of the Attitude Era revere the most, even though he didn't do as much. At that point it didn't matter what he did, it was Sting and he was such a big deal people were just glad to see him. His ring work might not have been the best of his career at this point but he was still putting on great matches, and more importantly became the focal point of the biggest feud/storyline in wrestling history to date(wcw/nwo). How anything EG did in the 90's eclipses all of that is beyond me. Just because he was a more spectacular wrestler? No. That doesn't cut it.

If this poll is for the 90s than there is NO REASON Sting shouldn't win handily. This is just another 2011 popularity contest.

Uh, what? Please, explain to me why Sting was a far better wrestler through the 1990s than Eddie Guerrero?

For over half the decade the only name that could could compare with Sting was Hulk Hogan. Sting vs Flair is THE greatest fued in the history of wrestling. Sting held multiple world titles in the 90s and how many did Eddie have?

Look I'm not knocking Guerrero, I am truly a fan of his. But if we're talking BEST OF THE 90S, it's not even close.

I would strongly disagree with Sting-Flair being the greatest feud in history, but how much of it even took place in the 90s?

I have to say that I find it horribly ironic that you are dismissing the poll as a "popularity contest", then try to justify your pick based on their popularity. Most people aren't picking based on "who was more popular" or "who won more titles". Rather, who was the better wrestler. And I don't see much argument for Sting based on that criteria.

Eddie was a better wrestler, Sting was more popular. Sting's one of my all time favorites as well as Eddie, but Eddie was a better wrestler across the whole decade than Sting was.

If the poll was based on kayfabe accomplishments, there'd be no reason for a poll because you could just go out and look up who won the most titles and then vote accordingly. This way, it's all subjective.

I don't want to say Sting had to be carried, but he didn't really andd much to a match that another babyface against Cactus or Vader would have. Anything of his past mid-94 is usually not even worth watching. Guerrero was commonly the "shining star" in whatever match he was in.

Because people are voting for who was the better worker and not the bigger draw?

Sting was a bigger star, but Eddie was the better wrestler in the 90s.
