I remember when it was easy to say Roderick had some of the best chops in the business.

God, I hate Strong. He has no charisma and isn't entertaining...at all.

^ Literally just watch Strong vs Mack and came to vent how much Roderick sucks. God damn, if you are going to be a black hole of personality who has retarded indy MOVEZ offence you could atleast hit your stuff properly, but he couldn't even do that.

It was a good match and I am on the Willie Mack bandwagon, I just think Roderick stinks and brings down every match he is in these days.

Well yeah I'd generally agree with that.

While I've never been a big fan of Strong's, the guy is still okay. However, he was definitely better a couple years ago. For PWG, the guy was damn good against the likes of Rocky Romero and a ton of quality tag matches. Unless they're planning on having him team with Aries on a regular basis again, PWG might as well let Strong have some time away from PWG though. He hasn't done jack shit in awhile.

I like this thread and once I get to watching some of the new PWG dvds I got the other day, I will most likely join in the discussion.

Re: Pro Wrestling Guerrilla - Introduction and General Discussion

More thoughts on Card Subject To Change III:

Ki vs Tozawa: Not great, maybe even a little dissapointing, but thats more to do with expecations, as it was still very good. Early parts were pretty weak, too much "we are equal" cliches and a couple botches, but once they started slugging it out it became the match we want it to be.

Goodtime vs Taylor: Bad. I like Goodtime but it's obvious he's much better at tags than singles, and Taylor sucks.

Claudio vs Joey: Again this was good, but far from great. Ryan throws nice punches but otherwise is pretty useless and even with all the armwork and effort into getting his finisher over his submissions felt like restholds and the crowd was totally flat for them. Claudio sold the armwork quite well, especially for a dude who's main offensive moves are uppercuts and lariats, and the superplex out of Ryan's finisher was nuts.

Generico/Ricochet vs Bucks: Boring. I thought this could have atleast been a fun spotfest, but instead the Bucks tried to work a normal tag and they just aren't good at it. Couple cool spots from Ricochet, otherwise this sucked.

Re: Pro Wrestling Guerrilla - Introduction and General Discussion

Personally, I thought the whole CStC 3 show was average. Much like a lot of you, my match of the night would be Ryan/Castagnolli. That was a really good match, but still not great. There was a lot of stuff I saw from Claudio I liked, for instance his constant counters to Ryan's attempt at Curb Jobs, followed by one of his own, as well as him using his agility and flying around the ring even though he's an incredibly muscled heavyweight. Ryan did good on his part too and wrestled solidly. I also liked his pre-show promo. The ending, though, was a surprise in the sense that I was surprised it was so weak, especially with Ryan tapping out so fast.

Ki and Tozawa had the potential to be match of the night in themselves, but I think the fact that Tozawa didn't really hit much, if any, of his big moves really impeded that. I was really annoyed with all of Tozawa's tries for the German Suplex, as well as other moves, being blocked by Ki. There really was nothing surprising to the match, as most of it looked like rest holds. The highlight for me would be Tozawa yelling before shouting at the crowd to "Shut da fuck up!" I wonder if they're actually gonna do anything with Ki. As for Tozawa, I'd like to see him back in PWG after his return to Japan. Ki is a good wrestler and a solid aerial technician and all that good stuff, but when you compare that with what people think of him, it's clear he's very over-rated. The match just didn't have that hard-fought PWG feel.

God, I dislike Strong with a passion. His best years are definitely behind him. How the Hell does a guy with shitty charisma who can't work a crowd, and his wrestling is declining, keep getting booked so well? His match with Mack honestly had me miss bits because I was blacking out - it's the perfect cure to insomnia. Personally, I really like Mack and his style, especially considering what he does for a guy his size, but Strong just ruined it. The no-selling and all that looked stupid. Strong needs to do something to change and become more appealing, legit. As for Mack, I think he's good just the way he is. The only thing about Strong I found remotely entertaining was him commentating the main event.

And for a main event, Generico/Ricochet against YB didn't really deliver. YB are always entertaining, but the match just kinda seemed boring. I was expecting an intense, fast-paced match but only got a portion of what I wanted. I just don't think Ricochet is ready for the main event, especially in a company like PWG. He's a good wrestler and great high-flyer, but past that, he isn't much else.

I also liked Candice and Portia in women's action - something I haven't seen in PWG in quite some time. (While we're here, whatever happened to Christina Von Eerie) The match definitely stood out because it was women, but they worked well together and had a good match.

Re: Pro Wrestling Guerrilla - Introduction and General Discussion

I believe Von Eerie is working in Mexico. There was some talk that she was going to TNA after a try-out, but nothing has happened yet. I wouldn't mind seeing someone like Portia Perez become a regular in PWG to give Candice LaRae something to do. The more Candice the better.

In any case, which is the best BOLA? I'm basically just prancing around getting PWG events and am now contemplating which BOLA to get/watch first.

Re: Pro Wrestling Guerrilla - Introduction and General Discussion

the women's match was 5 minutes of arm drags with a roll up. and Portia was horrible on commentary I laughed when she thought Ryan Taylor was from Kentucky and Excalibur had to correct her.

I thought Mack vs Strong was MOTN as it was unexpected live and really kind of showcased what Willie can do in PWG, and I like them using his backstory of being a fan before he had chance to get into PWG. I think if he keeps up this pace he could have some PWG gold in a year or so

Re: Pro Wrestling Guerrilla - Introduction and General Discussion

I haven't seen them all, but:

2005 - It received rave reviews when it first came out, but it doesn't hold up anymore. Relying on AJ Styles to carry any tournament is crazy. Not surprisingly, Danielson manages to have three of the best matches (Including the best Ricky Reyes singles match I've ever seen) and Super Dragon/Kevin Steen has yet another quality bout. The main reason to see the event (Losers tag on night 2) is available on PWG Sells Out Vol 1, so the DVD loses a major selling point.

2006 - I haven't seen all of this, but what I have seen didn't impress me too much.

2007 - I've only seen most of the matches from night 1. Strong vs Aries is really good though.

2008 - I haven't seen all of it, but god damn did Chris Hero have a couple of incredible matches against Low-Ki and Bryan Danielson on night 2. Aries and Nigel had a really good match on night 1.

2009 - Night 1 is pretty skippable unless you want the full tournament. Generico vs Shelley is pretty good though. Night 2 is one of the top four PWG shows of the year though. Great Bucks title defense, Omega vs Lost was incredible and caused me to lose my Lost hate and Omega/Strong was good as well.

2010 - Night 1 is mostly skippable again with the exception of Claudio vs Ricochet. That match is pretty insane. Of course, Night 2 has the PWG MOTY with Hero vs Tozawa. Joey Ryan and Austin Aries had a much better match than I expected on night 2.
    ---

Before buying any of the shows, I'd wait for other opinions though. I'm sure guys like Capone, Steve and Nicky have seen all of the ones I haven't.

Between '06, '07, and '09 which are the ones I've seen beginning to end, '07 was the best of them. You had some quality matches. Even with the lack of Super Dragon, Danielson, and Bosh, it held it's own as a 2007 PWG show, which is a solid year for PWG, in my opinion. Standout performances throughout from McGuinness, Generico, and one of Strong's better events of that year too. You get your spot fest fill from PAC and Sydal and you get good technical stuff from Nigel and Joey and CIMA is just being CIMA, (though he seemed a bit off this weekend).

    So I definitely recommended 2007.

Re: Pro Wrestling Guerrilla - Introduction and General Discussion

As Jim said, 2005 doesn't hold up. A lot I've seen from 2006 BOLA match wise was horrendous, as was the booking (though they did suffer from no-shows/injuries). 2007 was really wacky. You should watch Steen's BOLA 2007 work if you are a fan of his antics. I thought Doug Williams versus Claudio was fucking fun. I also remember several dissapointments. 2008 might be my favorite all-around BOLA, with Roddy actually being tolerable against Ki (the commentary rules on that match), Hero being excellent throughout. Nigel, Bryan, and Ki also delivered throughout, and the losers three-way tag was highly amusing. BOLA 2009 had just one good night one match and was a decent night two. Omega really brought it. And BOLA 2010 Night 2 was one of my favorite shows of 2010

Sorry if this isn't on topic but does anyone have a good pic of the PWG Tag Titles? I've never seen them and kinda want to.

They are pretty jacked up at the moment, the back "leather" is almost completely coming off one of them, here's a pic of one at BOLA 2010

Sorry I thought I had a pic of the actual belts but it seems that I don't as this is the only 1 I have
