Raw Re: WWE 2004 - A Rising Era

WWE Monday Night Raw
5th January 2004
Live From: The Pyramid, Memphis, Tennessee
Attendance: 10,000
Commentators: Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler

“NOW GET THE GUNS, THE DRUGS. FROM MY GENERATION”

OPENING

The opening video shows, as the pyro explodes for the first Monday Night Raw for 2004. We are welcomed by Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler, for what is going to be one hell of a night. JR reminds us that the Royal Rumble is 3 weeks away, and that the winner of the Royal Rumble, will go on to headline Wrestlemania XX. King also tells us that Triple H is going to have to defend his World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble, and we’re having a Fatal Four Way Elimination Match, tonight, to determine who will face him for the championship. Along with this, the Royal Rumble Qualification Matches will kick off tonight. Bischoff will choose the 7 superstars from Raw who will automatically qualify. The other 8 spots from Raw, will have to be earned.

SCENE 1 – RAW ARENA

“I’M BACK…BETTER THAN EVER…”

Eric Bischoff makes his way to a large amount of heat, with mic in hand. He enters the ring with a grin on his face. He says that right now he will announce the 7 Raw superstars that will automatically qualify for this year’s Royal Rumble. They are Edge, Christian, Jeff Hardy, Matt Hardy, Chris Benoit, Batista and Shelton Benjamin. The other 8 spots will be contested out on the next two episodes of Raw. 4 matches this week, 4 matches next week. He says that is all. Also he announces the four competitors in tonights No. 1 Contender’s match for the World Heavyweight Championship. They are Chris Jericho, Goldberg, Shawn Michaels and Test. He says thank you, before leaving the ring again, to a series of boo’s.

COMMERICAL

SCENE 2 – Royal Rumble Qualification Match

Val Venis vs. Jonathan Coachman.

This match went largely with Val Venis dominating. Coachman had a few close shots but Venis countered them, each and every time. Garrison Cade tried to interfere in this match, but Val Venis made sure he didn’t. Coachman had a headlock in place, but Venis countered out of it, threw Coachman to the floor, and climbed to the top rope to hit the Money Splash for the 1, 2, 3.

RESULT – Val Venis d. Jonathan Coachman (3:26)
Val Venis qualifies for the 2004 Royal Rumble.

SCENE 3

Backstage.

Shawn Michaels is backstage looking determined, preparing himself for his match tonight. He says that he is never backing down without a fight, and tonight he will prove that he will come out on top.

We cut to Chris Jericho’s locker room. He doesn't say anything, but instead, has a determined look on his face, as he looks at a mirror, and ends up smiling at it.

Cut to Test and Stacy Keibler. Stacy is giving a Test a back massage, and tells him that everything will be okay, and that she is sure he will come out tonight on top.

Cut to Goldberg’s locker room. He gets the biggest pop out of anyone else. He stares at a TV of Triple H holding the title belt and smiling. Goldberg races and kicks the TV screen, breaking it. He then looks at it, before walking off.

SCENE 4 - Royal Rumble Qualification Match

The Hurricane vs. Tommy Dreamer

A pretty even match, with both superstars getting even offense and defense all round. Dreamer had a big moment for him, when he hit Hurricane with a Dreamer DDT from the top rope, but only got a near fall, at 2 and a half. Dreamer looked like he was going to follow up with a second DDT, but to no avail, as Hurricane hit Dreamer with The Eye of The Hurricane to pick up the win. 1…2…3…

RESULT – The Hurricane d. Tommy Dreamer (6:01)
The Hurricane qualifies for the 2004 Royal Rumble.

COMMERCIAL

SCENE 5 – Royal Rumble Qualification Match

Steven Richards d. Eugene

Straight after commercial, we are thrown straight into another Royal Rumble Qualifier. This time it’s Steven Richards vs. Eugene. Steven Richards looks like he’s dominating the match from start to finish so far. Hitting Eugene with a big Stevie Kick. He goes for the pinfall, only to stop it himself, before laughing. The referee however is distracted by Eugene’s tag partner Tajiri, as Edge hits Steven Richards with a spear. Edge runs out, and Tajiri leaves. The ref turns back around, and Eugene hits Richards with the stunner to gain the upset victory.

RESULT – Eugene d. Steven Richards (5:01)
Eugene qualifies for the 2004 Royal Rumble

SCENE 6

La Resistance with Eric Bischoff in the GM’s office. La Resistance are in the office complaining to Eric Bischoff. They said that they are the No. 1 Contenders for the World Tag Team Championship, and they want a title match next week. Eric says he sees no problem with that, and puts them into a match next week, only to be interrupted by Stone Cold Steve Austin. Stone Cold says he’s the Co-GM of Raw and if he doesn’t agree to a match, then it won't happen, however he says if La Resistance tonight, can beat a team of his choice, then they get to challenge The Hurricane and Rosey on next week’s Raw. La Resistance agree, and Stone Cold says that the team he’s chosen is none other than one of the most celebrated teams in wrestling history. The Hardy Boys. The fans cheer, as Stone Cold opens a can, and drinks it as he walks off.

SCENE 7 – THE HIGHLIGHT REEL

Chris Jericho makes his way to the ring with a standing ovation from the crowd. He says that since his torn pectoral muslce back at Summerslam last year, put him out of action for four months, he says he’s happy to be back tonight, and to return to the first episode of Raw in 2004 in style. He thanks the fans, and says that tonight’s guest is going to be none other, than the man that injured him at Summerslam. The Rock. The Rock comes out to the ring with cheers from the fans, despite being a heel. He comes to the ring and tells Jericho that he is a good for nothing piece of monkey crap, and that his ass deserved to be beaten at Summerslam. Chris Jericho laughs before throwing a right hand at The Rock. The two start fighting until The Rock hits Y2J with a Rock Bottom. Stone Cold ends up behind The Rock. The Rock turns around, and gets a Stone Cold Stunner for the Co-GM. The Rock announces that tonight’s Fatal 4 Way Elimination Match, will now be a 5 Man Gauntlet match, with The Rock being added in. Stone Cold leaves as the fans cheer in excitement.

SCENE 8

Tag Team Match. Winner faces The Hurricane and Rosey next week for the Tag Team Titles.

La Resistance vs. The Hardy Boys.

The match starts off with Rob Conway vs. Matt Hardy. Conway gains the original start, hitting Matt with a big boot, followed by a big scoop slam. Grenier then comes in and hits Matt with a powerbomb to get a 2 count. However all of this comes to end soon. Jeff gets tagged in and goes for a Swanton Bomb, but misses, Conway hits Matt, knocking him off the canvas, and Conway and Grenier both hit Jeff with the “Au Revoir” to pick up the pinfall, and the win.

RESULT – La Resistance d. The Hardy Boys (7:11)

Flair went for a schoolboy, only for A-Train to kick out at two. A missed spear by A-Train knocks out the ref. At this point Evolution members Randy Orton, and Batista, race to the ring. Orton has a sledgehammer, and Batista has a 2 by 4. Flair gets up as well. The three of them start attacking A-Train’s legs, Flair stomping, and Orton and Batista using their weapons. As the ref gets back up, Flair and A-Train make a break, and run for it. Flair drags A-Train along the canvas to the middle of the ring, and locks in the Figure 4 Leg Lock. A-Train taps out almost instantly.

RESULT: Ric Flair d. A-Train (5:06)

We hear a mixed reaction from the crowd as Flair puts up his hand in victory, but the mixed reaction turns into boos as Batista and Orton celebrate with Flair.

CUT TO

PROMO

We get a promo from JR and King about tonight’s main event match. The Five Man Gauntlet coming up next.

COMMERICAL BREAK

We are back and now it is time for the Main Event…

MAIN EVENT
FIVE MAN GAUNTLET MATCH For Number 1 Contendership for the World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble PPV.

Test vs. Chris Jericho vs. Goldberg vs. Shawn Michaels vs. The Rock.

“THIS IS A TEST”

Test’s music plays as he receives a large amount of heat. He’s being accompanied by Stacy Keibler to the ring.

“DO YA SAMMEEELLLL!!!!”

The Rock makes his way to the ring with a mixed reaction from the crowd.

The match gets underway, with both wrestlers getting the same offense. Keibler tries to distract The Rock but to no avail. Test gets a close two count after hitting a full nelson slam. Test tries to pin The Rock, by using ropes for leverage, but it doesn't work. Test tries to go for a pumphandle slam, but The Rock counters with a Rock Bottom, and gets the pinfall, eliminating Test from the gauntlet.

The Rock eliminates Test by pinfall (4:36)

“BREAK DOWN THE WALLS”

Chris Jericho is the 3rd participant in the gauntlet. Upon entering the ring, he and The Rock have a quick staredown, before Rock gets right into it, throwing right hands directly, backing Jericho into the turnbuckle. The two enemies then exchange right hands at each other, before Y2J finds a way out, and locks The Rock into a Walls Of Jericho. However The Rock, counters it, sending Jericho to the canvas. The Rock then gets up and locks Y2J in the sharpshooter to make him tap out.

The Rock eliminates Chris Jericho by submission (9:19)

“THE HEARTBREAK KID”

The Heartbreak Kid, Shawn Michaels is the 4th entrant in the gauntlet. He races into the ring and instantly takes down The Rock. HBK hits The Rock with a diving elbow for a near 2 count. Likewise for The Rock when he hit the People’s Elbow. However The Rock’s road to the Royal Rumble is cut short, when HBK hit’s The Rock with not one, but two Sweet Chin Music’s in order to grab the pinfall.

Shawn Michaels eliminates The Rock by pinfall (13:36)

“INVASION”

Goldberg enters the ring to probably the biggest pop of the night. The fans are going crazy for Goldberg, but are also going crazy for HBK. JR is screaming in his microphone saying that this is a match every wrestling fan has ever dreamed off.

Both stars start it out slow, with going into grapples and reversals. The match goes to the outside where Goldberg connects with a massive military press slam outside of the ring. HBK nearly gets counted out, but makes it back into the ring at “9”. Goldberg looks for another military press later on, but HBK reverses into a DDT. Both wrestlers are on the ground, and the ref starts the double count. The fans are going crazy. Both HBK and Goldberg get back to their feet. The match reaches its end when Goldberg is looking for a Jackhammer, but HBK reverses into the Sweet Chin Music, to get the pinfall. 1…2…3…HBK is facing Triple H at the Royal Rumble for the World Title!

RESULT: Shawn Michaels d. Goldberg, The Rock, Chris Jericho and Test (19:02)
Shawn Michaels is now the No. 1 Contender For The World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble.

Re: WWE 2004 - A Rising Era

Review:D
right firstly opening segment was ok

as for the qualification matches well why would Raw be made up of mid card and lower mid card matches? if it was me i would have up upper mid carders vs some of these guys
richards vs eugene looks more like a match for Heat and not Raw
Hurricane beating dreamer doesn't seem rite, Dreamer is a tough sob makes him look weak
Flair winning is cool but i wouldn't have booked him to beat a train
and why was Coach in a match????

the segments in between matches were written well, don't understand why you were advertising Backlash though lol

main event was well written but why was test involved? and why was he Rock involved?

i guess you like Test and want to push him but puttin him straight in a number 1 contender situation and then having him not win won't do much for him.

from your highlight reel i'm guessing your just making so that Rock face Jericho at Summerslam, also you made an error in the HR you had the Rock announce he was in the main evevtn after he had just been stunnered lol

overall nice first show with some improvements it could be a good btb
feel free to return the review in my BTB its in my sig:D:D

WWE ANNOUNCEMENT

WWE has announced that in conjunction with Sunday Night Heat, WWE Smackdown will have it's own show called WWE Velocity. Heat will run in tandem with Raw, while Velocity will run in tandem with Smackdown. The shows are designed to give both the lower midcard and opening talent on both brands a time to be in the spotlight.

RAW REVIEW

GOOD:

• Opening segment were Bischoff comes out was really good. The Royal Rumble Qualifcation thing is a good idea. The RAW Superstars are good that are already in the Rumble.
• Good second match enjoyed reading it.....Good to see Hurrican advance
• Again nice qualifying match....
• I liked reading the High Light Reel...good to see Y2J back...in style
• The tag team match to see who faces Hurricane and Rosey was good....good set up
• Scene 9 was good I loved Evolution
• Main Event was good....be interesting to see how you build HBK vs. HHH.....

BAD:

• A few of your segments are a little rushed but still ok
• I didnt really like the bit were HBk then cuts to test and all that was rushed
• Coachman.....not the best match?

OVERAL:

• Good first show but still need to work on some things here and there......But overal (7.5 out of 10).....Ill be reading some more.

Smackdown Re: WWE 2004 - A Rising Era

WWE Friday Night Smackdown
9th January 2004
Live From: Von Braun Center, Huntsville, Alabama
Attendance: 9,531
Commentators: Tazz and Michael Cole

“AND IT WON’T BE DENIED, CAUSE ALL I’VE GOT LEFT IS MY PRIDE”

OPENING

Friday Night Smackdown kicks off as Michael Cole and Tazz welcome us to the first Smackdown of the year. They promise us that this is going to be a massive event without a doubt. Tonight, General Manager Paul Heyman is going to announce his Royal Rumble picks. Ultimo Dragon will be defending his Cruiserweight Championship tonight against Paul London, and Kurt Angle is set to answer Brock Lesnar, and challenge him in a Street Fight.

“THIS IS EXTREME”

Paul Heyman, the Smackdown GM, makes his way to the ring with a nice pop from the crowd. He makes his way to the middle of the ring, with microphone in hand. He says that he’s chosen his seven, but is only going to have 13 Smackdown stars in the Royal Rumble this year. He says that he has two good friends that are coming back for the event. He says we’ll be having 3 matches tonight, and 3 matches next week. The seven Smackdown stars that instantly qualify are The Big Show, Eddie Guerrero, JBL, The Undertaker, John Cena, Booker T and Rob Van Dam. The other six spots will have to be contested for. Also he says that tonight’s match for Kurt Angle, is also a last chance match. If Kurt Angle wins, he becomes the Number 1 Contender at the Royal Rumble, but if he loses, then Kurt Angle can not challenge for the WWE Championship, while Lesnar is still champion. He leaves the ring to another pop.

Tazz says that this is going to be a great match tonight, and Cole agrees, knowing that Angle will never give up, no matter what situation.

SCENE 2

Backstage

Sean O’Haire is backstage with Torrie Wilson. He’s trying to flirt with her but it isn’t working. When Torrie says no for the eleventh time, Sean finally cracks, and screams, “Will You Go Out With Me”. Torrie hesitates to reply for a moment, and says ‘yes’, on the count that he wins his Royal Rumble Qualification Match up next. Sean smiles as he hears this. He then hears his theme music play, grabs Torrie Wilson (against her own will) and walks off.

SCENE 3

Royal Rumble Qualification Match

Sean O’Haire (w/Torrie Wilson) vs. Rikishi (w/Scotty 2 Hotty)

“COME ON”

Sean O’Haire is making his way to the ring, still continuously dragging Torrie to the ring. He gets a large amount of heat. He then stops at ringside, and yells in Torrie’s ear to stay there, and not move. He then gets into the ring.

“YOU LOOK FLY TODAY”

Rikishi’s music plays as he and Scotty 2 Hotty get a massive pop from the crowd. Torrie Wilson is smiling as Too Cool, come out dancing to the ring, but her smile quickly disappears, when Sean has an evil stare to her. Scotty is waiting at the other side of the ring, when Rikishi goes in, and the match is underway.

Sean jumps the gun, dealing right hands to Rikishi, backing him into the turnbuckle. Sean hits a few power moves, while Rikishi counters hitting a few power moves of his own. Sean hits a big crucifix powerbomb onto Rikishi, lifting up the 350 pounder, and goes for the pin. 1…2…, but Torrie grabs Rikishi’s foot and places it on the rope. Sean sees what happened, turns to Torrie and starts yelling at her. He grabs her by the hair, and screams into her face. The ref tells Sean to stop it, and he lets go. Sean turns around, and gets a big boot from Rikishi, which sends him sitting in the turnbuckle. Rikishi gives the crowd that famous look and we all know what’s next. Stinkface! Rikshi then hits the Banzai Drop, for the 1, 2, 3 and the win.

RESULT: Rikshi (w/Scotty 2 Hotty) d. Sean O’Haire (w/Torrie Wilson) – (4:35)
Rikishi qualifies for the 2004 Royal Rumble

Rikishi and Scotty make their way back up to the ramp, as Torrie joins them. The three of them start dancing to the Too Cool theme music, as we get a massive pop from the crowd, and Sean just stares at them.

SCENE 4

We see Kurt Angle backstage, in the gym. A massive pop from the crowd erupts. We see him training with a punching bag.

We then see Brock Lesnar also training backstage, with another massive pop from the crowd. He’s doing some jogging on the spot.

The camera then pans over to see Josh Matthews, with a mic in his hand just standing there. Brock notices him, then he stops and stares at him. Matthews, a little intimidated asks Brock if he’d mind he ask him a few questions. Brock says he doesn’t mind. Josh asks Lesnar how he feels about going into the Street Fight tonight. Lesnar says he’s fine, and has no problem with it. He’s then asked how he feels about Kurt Angle. Brock then says that Kurt has been a massive inspiration to him, and that he wouldn’t know where he’d be today if it wasn't for him. But tonight he says this isn’t about being inspiring, or respect. This is about the WWE Championship, and he says he’s looking forward to having a great match with Kurt. Brock smiles as he walks off, and another pop from the crowd erupts again.

“THE DRAGON”

The Cruiserweight Champion, Ultimo Dragon makes his way to the ring to a big pop from the crowd.

The match starts, with a nice mixture of exhibition moves being shown. London goes for a dropkick, followed by a standing shooting star press on Ultimo. Ultimo then follows with a big dragon suplex followed by a springboard moonsault. Ultimo hits a Tiger suplex, to get only a 2 count. Highilghts include, Paul London hitting a 450 splash to the outside, and Ultimo Dragon hitting Paul London, with a backflip belly to belly suplex off of the top rope. But the match ended when Ultimo Dragon hit an Aztec Suplex onto London, and then locked in the Dragon Sleeper, for London to tap out.

Rey Mysterio and Orlando Jordan vs. The Dudley Boyz

Mysterio and Jordan get a pop, while the Dudley Boyz get heat. D-Von nearly gets the three after they hit the 3D out of nowhere onto Jordan. Orlando then takes on Bubba Ray. Bubba Ray goes for the Bubba Bomb, but Orlando rolls through and hits Bubba with the Black Ice, to get the two count. The tables are turned again, and now it’s down to Mysterio and D-Von. However it was a missed Saving Grace from D-Von, that let Mysterio hit the 619, and then pick up the win.

Rey Mysterio and Orlando Jordan qualify for the 2004 Royal Rumble

POST-MATCH: The Dudley Boyz continue to attack Rey Mysterio and Orlando Jordan. They then both get two tables and set them up in the middle of the ring, before giving both Mysterio and Jordan a 3D through each table. They stare at the both of them, before walking off.

Michael Cole and Tazz talk about how in bad taste that was for The Dudley Boyz to do that. They remind us that after the ad-break, we have our main event of the evening. A street fight between Brock Lesnar and Kurt Angle.

An even bigger pop erupts from the crowd, as Brock Lesnar makes his way to the ring with the WWE Championship around his waist.

And the match is underway. Both Lesnar and Angle have an intense staredown, before going into a collar elbow tie-up. Lesnar eventually has the strength to back Angle up into the corner. Lesnar then lets go after the referee tell hims too. He lets go, and then Angle hits Lesnar with a big Lou Thesz Press. They both continue to trade right hands at each other and a few big suplexes, before it goes to the outside.

Brock tries to for an F5 on the steel ramp, twice, but Angle counters, and hits Lesnar with a massive Angle Slam! Angle tries to go for a pin, but the referee stops him, telling him that pinfalls only count inside the ring. Angle picks Lesnar back up and drags him over to the ring.

Lesnar fights out of it tough and spears Angle to the ground. The fight spills over into the crowd area, with both Lesnar and Angle brawling in the crowd. Lesnar tries to go for another F5 and connects this time. He tries to go for a second, but Angle reverses into the Angle Lock! WWE Monday Night Raw

12th January 2004
Live From: Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Uniondale, New York
Attendance: 12,108
Commentators: Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler

“NOW GET THE GUNS, THE DRUGS. FROM MY GENERATION”

OPENING

The pyro explodes, as JR and Jerry Lawler welcome us to another episode of Raw. Tonight, they say that Triple H will go one on one with Shawn Michaels, for the first time since their vicious Hell In A Cell encounter, from last year at Bad Blood 2003. They were once friends, but are now enemies, so this match without a doubt, is going to be a moment in the making. Also Jerry reminds us that the Tag Team Championship is on the line tonight, as The Hurricane and Rosey will be defending against La Resistance, and Evolution’s young gun, Randy Orton will be taking on the veteran William Regal, in a Royal Rumble Qualification Match.

SCENE 2

Royal Rumble Qualification Match

Tajiri vs. Matt Hardy

“THE JAPANESE BUZZSAW”

Tajiri makes his way to the ring with a mixed reaction.

“LIVE FOR THE MOMENT”

Matt Hardy makes his way to the ring, with a whole stack of cheers from the crowd.

The match was a pretty decent opening match. Tajiri hits a few kicks onto Matt, before taking him down with a big kick to the head. Tajiri locks on a boston crab, but Matt gets out of it. Matt hits a Side Effect only to get a close 2 count. Tajiri later on places a firm Tarantula, but Matt kicks out, shoving Tajiri straight to the ground. Matt is down on the canvas, but Tajiri gets up faster than he does, and sneaks back into the ring. Tajiri positions for the Buzzsaw Kick, but Matt counters, ducks and hits Tajiri with the Twist Of Fate to get the 1, 2, 3.

RESULT: Matt Hardy d. Tajiri (4:51)
Matt Hardy qualifies for the 2004 Royal Rumble

SCENE 3

Evolution backstage. Triple H is talking to them, and is formulating a plan. Flair, Batista and Orton assure Triple H that nothing is going to go wrong, and that they will be with him ringside. Triple H yells at them saying they shouldn’t volunteer. It’s a know fact, that's what they should do, because he is the leader of Evolution and the lowers support the leader. Triple H walks off with his wife Stephanie, while Flair, Batista and Orton stare after him.

SCENE 4

The Hurricane and Rosey are preparing backstage. They both have the World Tag Team belts around their waist. Hurricane tells Rosey, that this is the moment where he has to be a hero, and he has to show the world what he can do. However, they are interrupted by La Resistance, who tell them that they can kiss their belts good-bye, because they are up against La Resistance. Hurricane replies with saying that he didn’t know assholes were allowed backstage. La Resistance simply shrug it off, and tell him that they should prepare to see the Hurricane and Rosey’s belts, going around their waists. They laugh, and walk away.
