    South Park Series Discussion

They are doing a marathon on Comedy Central right now.

Holy Shit, I havent seen this show in years. It is still hilarious. Michael "Jefferson" moves into South Park and has his kid blanket. Lol. The South Park police try to frame him because he is black.

This show is a classic. I will have to get all the seasons now. I didnt realize how much i missed this show.

The earlier seasons aren't that funny looking back, but the later seasons where they would really rag on a piece of modern culture, eg Christian Rock, or that dude that claims to talk to dead people, are hilarious.

They always seem very up to date with current events and what not. They mentioned the Kobe Bryant trial in the last episode I just watched.

I loved the halloween episode that's presented in 'Spooky Vision', which is just a picture of Barbara Streisands face in each corner. Ever since then if me and my sister see her on tv we just burst out lauging about that episode.

the "Shit" episode was a few years ago...they got prior approval to do the show and keep the curses in, on the grounds that the subject of the show was censorship and the context of so-called "curse" words.

The thing that makes South Park so great is that the creators realized early on that a show about foul-mouthed children will get boring after a while, so they slowly worked more political and sociological issues into the show, as well as current events such as the Michael Jackson thing. It's now one of the most clever shows on television.

Also, i heard that it takes them about 1/10th the time to do an episode as compared to the Simpsons, so they can talk about a current event much earlier than the Simpsons can

South Park Censored By Comedy Central AGAIN

There was something missing in Wednesday night's South Park, as a title card explained: "Comedy Central has refused to broadcast an image of Mohammed on their network."

    It was not a joke.

The scene depicting the Islamic prophet handing a football helmet to a character from Family Guy (at least that's how another of the show's title cards put it) really was nixed by Comedy Central.

A source close to the show said safety concerns were behind the move. Earlier this year, Danish newspapers published cartoons depicting the prophet Mohammed, sparking deadly riots throughout many Muslim nations. Any rendering of the prophet, even a positive one, is considered blasphemous by Muslims.

"In light of recent events, we feel we made the right decision," Comedy Central said in a statement Thursday.

There was no public response from series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

Wednesday's South Park, "Cartoon Wars, Part 2," was the concluding half of a story arc in which Family Guy, yes, the Fox animated series, causes international consternation when, in a familiar-sounding turn of events, it depicts Mohammed. (The story line is better understood if one accepts that, as The South Park Scriptorium explained, "Family Guy=South Park.")

In the South Park version of things, Family Guy makes it to air with the controversial scene, prompting an animated response (literally) from al Qaeda involving Jesus, President Bush, the U.S. flag and bowel movements.

South Park has been winning friends of late with its religious-themed episodes. Last year, Comedy Central ran, but later declined to rerun the episode "Bloody Mary" after Donohue's group took umbrage with a menstruating statue of the Virgin Mary. Last month, Isaac Hayes turned in his Chef's hat, saying the show's satire had gone too far. His departure was seen as a belated response to "Trapped in the Closet," a 2005 episode that focused on Scientology, Hayes' religion. Comedy Central pulled a rerun of that episode, too.

An avowed equal opportunity offender, South Park previously depicted Mohammed to little public outcry. In that case, timing might have been everything. The episode, "Super Best Friends," debuted in July 2001, or two months before the arrival of the post-9-11 world.

So this makes 3 times withen the last year that Comedy Central has messed with South Park. I wish I could get time on national TV, then I would take a sign with Mohammad and spit on it. I hate when networks censor stuff like this because they decide to be pussies and not offend anyone because these muslim nutjobs get pissed over this so called prophet being depicted in pictures. Maybe they should stop being so damn sensitive and realize we aren't trying to offend you.

Although why should we respect your religion when you don't respect other religions?[/rant]

Just out of curiosity for those outside the US: did your networks censor it like Comedy Central did?

I saw it and I don't really watch or like South Park but the way they did it, they did it to make it part of the show. Making Fox seem like the kind of network that would show it but not Comedy Central. I had no problem with it.

This really fried my bird. I wish South Park would move on to a different channel, censorship is bullshit.

I must say though, the two episodes the past two weeks and the Chef episode were all brilliant. I can't wait for the DVD.

I am kind of dissapointed at what South Park did at the end of that episode. I refuse to watch it, but I heard about it. Not cool.

They laid waste to our land, they took it from our hand
From Atlanta to Savannah, they scorched our earth
They stole our corn and wheat, they left no food to eat
They slaughtered all the cattle, took the things of worth
Well, we got women and children too
    Just the same as you
Ain't it enough just to know that you got us beat

The hatred will never cease, even now that there's peace
The feelings will run as deep as the scars we bear
This ain't cloth we wear it's a rag, we're at the mercy of the carpetbag
What you call justice is plain unfair
How the hell can you ever claim
It's been worth all of the pain
Just to have us live together under one flag

This is totally not true, the way the South Park creators are, they totally set it up this way, just to fuck with people. I wouldn't believe this story. Those guys just love to screw with people.

They have had depictions of Jesus on the show before and I tolerated it. But there is a point where a line is crossed. In my opinion, that crossed the line.

I thought the Jesus thing was funny. If you can't laugh at yourself than who can you laugh at? Getting pissed off at that is like them getting piss off about Muhammod (i don't know if I spelled that correctly).

just see the humor and move on.

It still wasn't funny. I love South Park, they can do whatever they want and I don't think they should be censored. However, there are things that I, and obviously Dak, aren't going to find funny. Especially when they used Jesus in that final scene.

And I understand from the point of plot that it was the Arabs getting back at them showing Muhommad by showing Jesus in a blasphemous light, but I still couldn't laugh at it.

Stupid Muslims getting so mad over something so pathetic.
It's not pathetic. I know I get mad when people use the image of Jesus as a running joke (see last night's South Park and any episode of that pathetic show Drawn Together).
When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the country not enter the city. For this is the time of punishment in fullfillment of all that has been written. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. They will fall by the sword and be taken as prisoners to all nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
...At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.

I for one think Drawn Together is hilarious. You're just not in the market for that show.

Do you get angry at Family Guy when they show Jesus and God trying to pick up chics? Or making fun of Passion of the Christ?
