    Annoying Adverts

Though they are not that entertaining at all, I suppose this fits in here, since they are on television. Once upon a time, a commercial's purpose was simply to communicate a product being sold simply and convincingly. Then something happened - something stupid. Advertisement executives realised that if they made their ads stupid and annoying, they nonetheless would expand brand awareness by getting their horrifying jingles and dubious acting stuck in the heads of the defenceless television viewers watching.

What constitutes an annoying advert to you? And what adverts do you particularly dislike?

Here's a few annoying ones from me.

    We Buy Any Car
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXiJBp7HK5o
Inventive lyricism here. What was it you buy? Sadly this is one of the better ''we randomly sing about our dreary job' adverts.

    Bebetón sin afición

Imagine the scene, you´re watching a decent match and at half time they cut to this, an advert for a creepy-ass video of a computerised baby singing about shitting himself for lack of anything else to do - yours to download for only 5 euro. That this was worthy of being advertised on television bemuses me - ditto Crazy Frog and all his evil spawn.

    Go Compare
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_-9QFvhQWo
This is typical of the low-rent part of current advertising in the UK. Apparently the way to get people trusting to do their insurance with you is to create an annoying, singing character (this goes for several different firms). Opera used to be about transcendent love, great battles, psychological struggle - now, we're led to believe that it's about getting a cheaper deal on your car insurance. Puccini must be rolling rhythmically in his grave.

What have you got that annoys you?

    Re: Annoying Adverts

I share your thoughts precisely on this matter. All too soon these days, the few times I watch the box, I will flick over to a non-commercial channel during the ads, or avoid watching commercial channels live entirely, to avoid the flurry of patronising and misjudged shit you get these days. Coming up to Christmas, we'll start getting them hawking their shitty wares at an ever more frenzied pace.

Glad you hate WBAC and GoCompare too. If an advert annoys me, and most of them do, I too try my best to bloody well avoid the company in the future, because if they think that I, or any of their target customers, would feel an affinity with a queynte singing the same line 80 times or acting like a preening tosser, well, I'd rather not give them custom that feeds this opinion of the public.

Sometimes they add something gratuitously annoying. Like here:

What does that irritating fake giggle add to anything?

G-d, what the hell were they thinking with that Renault advert? They seem to be basing their entire identity on irritating, self-complacent wankers, remember the advert that they did with that schmuck who thought Blackpool was better than Paris and cut his unbelievably mignonne French counterpart off with 'SHH-akespeare?'

Is this who they're aiming their cars at, complete arseholes? Should we really aspire to being arseholes in shitty cars and with a shittier taste in music, whose radiating smugness can piss off their in-laws before a word is spoken?

It seems to not just be Renault though, as these hysterical Brooker rundowns show. There's some really bad ones he's listed (including a Renault advert! Whodathunkit?)

I actually love this one, though.
