Some NXT Rookies Getting Special Attention?

A handful of rookies have been in programs throughout WWE from time to time, and some have been exposed a hell of a lot more than others. While I like to see the rookies being used for more than just NXT, I don't agree with a set few of the rookies getting spotlighted and the others being kept out of the action.

David Otunga has been getting the most attention so far, most likely because of his status outside of WWE, but what about guys like Skip & Tarver? How are they supposed to get established if they aren't even being given the opportunity?

I admire what's happening with Danielson is doing and how his character is being developed. I wish all the rookies could have some sort of separate gig outside of the NXT competition itself.

Skip needs more attention imo. The guy has the character, the size, and looks to be sumwhat alright in z ring. I think out of everyone on NXT that gets no sold, he shouldn't be one of them.

It makes sense to give special attention to the guys you intend on pushing once the first series of NXT finishes. Why waste time on Michael Tarver when he's never going to ammount to anything? And if Skip Sheffied had any real potential, wouldn't he have been bought up to the main roster sooner? That's me assuming he's been in development since the final Tough Enough.

Let's be honest, they aren't real rookies. This NXT show is just to expose these guys to WWE fans and basically pick the cream of the crop. Whichever guys they feel like they can make a bunch of money on are the guys still going to be on your WWE tv a year or 2 down the road.

    No shit.

You're saying that as if no one else knew that's exactly what NXT is about.

    Angry much?

The special attention topic is really a non topic, because the WWE just views them as talent and are going to do what they want with them. Otunga hosting Raw was a test. IMO he failed.

Well I hate when people refer to them as rookies. It makes them look like uber marks.

Well, in fairness, they are rookies in the main WWE product.

They are not rookies. If wrestling is the kayfabe sport than in the kayfabe sport world they are not rookies because they have wrestled in other promotions for quite some time most of them.

That's like bringing a 28 year old to the NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB and calling him a rookie even though he played professionally overseas or in a minor pro league for a lot of years.

Re: Some NXT Rookies Getting Special Attention?

If a 28 year old pitcher came over from the NPB to play in the MLB, guess what? He's a fucking rookie in the MLB. It doesn't mean he's a rookie to the sport, just that he's a rookie to that league. Just like Daniel Bryan is a rookie to the WWE despite his professional resume in other wrestling promotions. You may not like that, but that's what it is.

Re: Some NXT Rookies Getting Special Attention?

Seeing that Mr. Jennifer Hudson is getting the most attention out of the NXT guys probably means the WWE wants this guy on their roster. I don't know what kind of exposure other guys get on Smackdown since I don't get that channel. But I'm feeling that Tarver has no future. They're giving Young some exposure since his Pro is a top heel on Smackdown, but I don't see anything special in him personally. I don't see Heath Slater with Christian on Raw, but I don't see anything special in him either. I want to see more of Sheffield because I think he has potential for not being a sure thing like Otunga, Bryan, Barrett, and Gabriel. Even though technically none of the NXT guys are shoe-ins yet.
Wade. to attack, approach, or begin vigorously.
Will. power or capacity of free, conscious choice.
Amiable. (to persons) having a pleasing and kindly disposition.

Re: Some NXT Rookies Getting Special Attention?

What a wonderful vibe this thread has.

I think Otunga being shoved into the spotlight is just for that, exposure. He has pull outside of WWE in the media, it would be pretty obvious for the marketing juggernaut that is WWE to milk him for every connection he's got. Like that show he was on, that we saw on a video package on NXT last night. Exposure.

And there's Danielson, who has basically given the IWC a voice and a reason to be mentioned on WWE programming. Whether Michael Cole is being a shithead or not, the entire back and forth between him and Matthews on commentary has made for some great TV.
