Re: The Importance of the FA Cup

My team is never going to win the league, so the FA & League Cup are important to me personally. If the aim is to become an established Premiership side then our other aim must surely be to win a cup, there's no point aiming for mid table for an eternity.

Although I'm in a minority, I found all the FA Cup games I saw live to have a flat atmosphere and there were plenty of empty seats, until the later rounds that is.

I'm not even slightly intrested before my team has entered and once my team has left. I usually find myself being annoyed in later rounds if it means a game get's cancelled because of the tournament.

Re: The Importance of the FA Cup

I liked it best when the winner of the FA Cup got to enter the Cup Winners Cup. I always thought that competition as far superior to the UEFA Cup. It was also a fun competition to watch, because most of the teams were kind of knock out cup specialists. Arsenal used to do really well in the competition when I was a kid.

Over the last 10 years I’d say the FA Cup has decreased in value to me. It probably started the year United withdrew from the competition after the FA pushed them to enter the first Club World Cup championship in Brazil. Cup final days don’t seem so special anymore, and most clubs would rather finish 4th than win the FA Cup. I’d say United take it semi seriously, but in a way it seems as though they take the Carling Cup more seriously than the FA Cup (having reached more finals in that competition than the FA Cup in recent seasons).

I'd think every team who is in Europe would rank it third.

    League
    Europe
    FA Cup
    League Cup

Teams who dont have Europe and are safe, I'd imagine think a lot more of it than those at the top or bottom of the leagues.
