The "WWE Only wants to push models" Talking Point.

Is it dead? In the past few months to a year, we've seen Mickie James and Michelle McCool in a lengthy and well thought out story line on SD!, we've seen girls like Natalya, Beth, and Melina all receive deserving air time and look good, we've seen Gail Kim finally coming around and doing something on RAW, and Serena has been awesome in her recent debut into the S.E.S.

Meanwhile, Maria has been released, which surprised me, Alicia Fox hasn't done anything of note in a while, and Kelly Kelly only gets air time when it's something as embarrassing as the Jerry Springer segment on RAW.

Maryse is a former model and is still being pushed on RAW.. so that's one plus for the "model" types, but nobody can tell me that she isn't serious about being legit.. she has worked hard at her character and even in the ring and it's starting to show.

No doubt since the whole PG thing came into play you could see that their was a slight change at the start with the whole Mickie/Beth/Melina feud that happened then it just seemed to go backwards for a lil while but looking at it now it seems as if the WWE has woken up a bit and started to give airtime to those divas who can actually wrestle while keeping those who can't (i.e. Bellas, Kelly Kelly) in segments which is how they should of made it to start with.

Tbh i just don't see why they can't use some of these divas as valets. Gives them a bit of airtime to build up popularity while not sticking them in pointless 2 minute matches every week.

Wasn't Beth just destroying people on SD! every week? And then I saw her looking good at the Rumble. I haven't seen SD! the past few weeks though.

Well, it also seems that they really don't have much to do with such stale divisions and lack of depth anyway, so I wouldn't image the same girls in the spolight now to remain there much longer.

I wouldn't say the models push is over, they've just stopped hiring as many models then training them, and instead hiring chicks who can actually wrestle. With the PG era in full swing, you can't have bikini contests every week, or sexually suggestive storylines. As a result, the girls with actually ability are shining through because creative can do more with them.

Agreed with pretty much all of this.

Since turning PG, WWE have had no choice but to dispatch their models to FCW, but even so, they're still not hiring trained females left, right and centre. Instead, they're rendering models-turned-wrestlers, then shipping them off to be on 'x' brand, while they're still greener than grass. But, as the OP originally and rightly pointed out, The Bellas, Rosa, Kelly, etc are all receiving aimless backstage segments which don't go anywhere - aka they're consistently acting as escorts for the guest hosts. And even though the PG rating is responsible for the lack of diva gimmick matches, it's also responsible for the ample rise in lengthy and sturdy story-lines in the women's division, so it's essentially a double edged sword.

Last year near enough every diva bar some got some time to shine. Kelly Kelly played her role in the Maryse/Mickie feud, Alicia got a shot at the divas championship, even Rosa did her part as the jobber and now she's on the arm of the guy with the infamous woot woot you know it catchphrase. Unfortunately though, Gail Kim, Natalya, and Katie Lea where all lurking somewhere in the scene, and are only being used when the WWE really needs them. Sure Gail Kim got some time this year, but that was all courtesy of Melina hurting herself, had she not done that, Gail would still be taking a back-seat whilst the Raw division carried on as normal. And currently, a very talented Natalya is stuck in the Hart Dynasty, and making a now released Maria tap out. Katie has taken Rosa's place as the jobber on Raw, and Jillian, despite having her 60 seconds of fame last year, has already been forgotten about. Beth Phoenix and her character keeps getting picked up, then fallaciously being thrown back down, it's so hard to tell what she's even doing on Smackdown any more - one week she wants the title and is shoving cake in Mickie's face, the next week she's nowhere to be seen.

On the plus side, at least we did see Beth Phoenix used correctly, and at least we are seeing a bald chick associated with one of the with one of the most engaging stables at the moment. Not to mention, we the fans where granted an emotional storyline involving two upper tier workers (Mickie and McCool). In addition, the WWE where quick on their feet to fix a feud that had been smashed to pieces because of a serious ankle injury, which led them to displaying a tournament where the divas title match actually got to PPV (sure it got post-poned, but technically it still made it). And instead of watching deplorable wrestling matches involving former playboy posers, we're seeing divas unveil characters which over a year ago either didn't exist or had been long neglected, and it's all because WWE are choosing to exert the females who can show character and wrestle over the girls willing to a show plenty of skin.

So presently, I do agree that the pushing models idea is dead, but I'm at the stance that it's not because WWE doesn't want to push them, it's blatantly because they can't. They haven't got a choice but to choose over and accomplished divas to steer the divisions on both brands because there's no other women to do it, and what's going to happen when Natalya, Mickie, Melina, Beth, Michelle all go? You're going to have a division almost consisting of former models or green rookies. Occasionally you'll get a Trish Stratus (who wasn't ever really good to me), but most of the time WWE will produce Kelly's who can string a few moves together, but can't work a match. The WWE should capitalize on the fact that they are PG, and import some trained, cultivated wrestlers so once and for all, they can dismantle the only wanting to push models label they currently have. But I don't ever see this happening, when you look at the current FCW roster, you'll observe that most of them are models, some former, some current, basically what the WWE has done is create a facade. They have taken models, and painted "wrestler" over them, we just aren't seeing what's under the paint yet because they A) Haven't debuted or B) Are stuck in nonsensical backstage segments.

Now it does seems like the Divas are taking the backseat due to the PG rating of WWE.
I wouldn't be surprised if either of these possibilities happen.
    A) WWE get rid of the PG rating and put the divas in playboy again (More Likely)
    B) The Women's division is scraped all together.
