    Why didn't WWE...

Push Elijah Burke? Guy got the reaction. Had the talent. Had a decent Mania feud as part of the New Breed.

    What happened?

He started opening his mouth about not getting pushed.

Didn't he take time off as well? I don't think Vince likes that unless you are someone who's been with the company a hell of a long time.

I always thought Burke had the potential to do well but, he did kind of got lost in the shuffle on ECW after a while. He did have a somewhat decent run being the mouth piece for the New Breed and, even getting a PPV match for the ECW title against Punk (when the title actually got PPV time).

Yeah if everything you hear was true about the backstage stuff it sounds like vince just was putting his foot down and show hes the boss so people know you still had to earn some stuff.

Burke had alot of in ring talent, but never had any really solid feuds beside the New Breed and Originals one. He never one a title with WWE either.

    Re: Why didn't WWE...

I'm almost certain Burke did get a decent push, I'd bet my house on it. Considering WWE wanted the New Breed to be the new faces of the ECW brand and Burke was chosen to lead them, I'd say he's got nobody but himself to blame for not going further. He was solidly pushed throughout most of 2007, but WWE opted to put the ECW Championship on Morrison who hadn't been pushed properly since January of that year.

It's seems like people moan about Burke not having more of a push, when he totally bombed with the first good one he was given. I've also seen no evidence to suggest he's the great worker people claim him to be.

I don't believe so, he was taken off of TV for quite a long time though.

As for what happened to Burke, he fell through the cracks. Looking back, if there's one point in time when things went sour, it's when Chris Benoit and Marcus Cor Von's sister died. Take a trip back in time right before Benoit's death. The following are the major events going on at the time:

    - The WWE draft which resulted in Bobby Lashley leaving ECW.
    - Kevin Thorne leaves the New Breed leaving only Cor Von, Striker and Burke.
    - Cor Von's sister dies so Cor Von takes time off to care for her children (Would lead to his leaving the company on good terms)
    - ECW gains Johnny Nitro and The Miz in the draft.
    - Final major ECW matches before Benoit's death - Cor Von vs Punk and Burke vs Benoit
    - Benoit's absence forces the WWE to put Johnny Nitro on PPV against Punk - Nitro's original purpose in ECW remains unknown.
    - Matt Striker goes on to manage Big Daddy V and thus the New Breed is done.

Within a couple of weeks, the entire landscape of ECW changed. Unfortunately for Burke, the office liked Morrison and they found gold with the pairing of Miz and Morrison. Big Daddy V was also supposed to have a major role in ECW, so he's pushed hard as well. ECW is only an hour long show, so with three new heels that the WWE was wanting to push, Burke found himself on the outs. The longer you remain not doing anything, the more people will realize they don't need you.

At least when the draft was first done, Burke and the New Breed were the top heel act of ECW. Two deaths resulted in the WWE having to find a substitute and end a successful faction. Sometimes that's how it works. Luck just isn't on your side.

He could have been huge for the WWE, in my opinion. But I dont think he had the attitude for what he would have to deal with on the way there. Love him in TNA. I think he is a guy who is very good in the ring naturally, very charasmatic, a decent mik worker, and more than pushable. Just a cas of poor timing, decision's from both parties, Burke opening his mouth, the WWE making him wait etc. I think it all worked out though.

I agree with most of what is said here. I think though, that right now, people are overrating just how good he is. He is good, don't get me wrong, but he isn't great, at least not yet. Right now, he is fresh and exciting in TNA, after the freshness has died down, we will see if he has the staying power of a true star.
