    Friday Night Internationals?

In a sop to clubs fed up with players reporting back from international duty just hours before their next domestic fixtures, UEFA have shunted the international calendar forward a day.

Teams looking to qualify for Ukraine and Poland will now be given the option of facing each other on a Friday or Saturday, before completing their double-header on a Tuesday.

Furthermore, FIFA will be under pressure from Europe’s richest clubs to repeat the move going forward, as World Cup qualifiers see players asked to travel back from the far corners of the globe. ITV, holders of the live rights to England’s home games, would prefer a now-traditional Saturday tea-time kick-off, as it produces better viewing figures and coverage can be incorporated more easily into existing schedules – but sources at the channel claim that it is not a n issue.

But with the extra recovery it affords, Capello is expected to push for Friday games.

    Re: Friday Night Internationals?

I think the away fans argument is a bit over played. People who go to away matches especially away internationals go come hell or high water. From my experiences there isn’t a significant difference from travelling fans for a Saturday game over a Wednesday game.

I like the idea of Friday night games. Friday night games are the norm in rugby and I think they could be an attraction in the Premiership. I’d much rather watch a game on TV on a Friday night than a Saturday early game or Sunday afternoon.
