Battleground Favourite Sporting Moment of the Noughties?

So the noughties are almost over, and we’re headed to another decade, but what was your favourite sporting moment of the past 10 years?

Was it something you were involved with, like representing your school or local team? Maybe a game or an event you were at? Or even just something you watched on the TV?

Let’s hear them, and remaniss over the last 10 years of sporting action.

Nope thats when they lost it, if he scored Chelsea would have won the trophy and the shootout wouldnt have gone to sudden death.

Anelka missed the penalty what won it for you.

Man Utd won the Champions League cause we let them. Wont be so lucky next time.

Stands out beating United 3-0, breaking Rooneys ankle and lifting the Premiership in one day though. Good times.

Re: Favourite Sporting Moment of the Noughties?

    I’ve got quite a few.

On a personal level, I went on a rugby tour to Australia with my high school back in 2002. It was the most amazing 3 weeks of my life, and it was all centred around rugby. We travelled up the east coast of Australia playing schools in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Townsville. We managed 4 wins out of 5, so it was a really successful tour, and one I will never forget.

United winning the Champions League in Moscow was also a good moment. My friends and I were in a bar in Cardiff, and even though my friends aren’t United fans, they were cheering just as loud as me when United won. We went on an all night bender after that, even though we all had work the next morning. It’s a shame we couldn’t repeat that last summer.

My favourite moment whilst being in a stadium would have to be when Wales won the Grand Slam in 2008. I went to every home game that season, and after getting knocked out of the World Cup in the Group Stage no one gave us a chance in the 6 Nations tournament. Warren Gatland became our coach and we brushed away everyone in our sights – playing a beautiful style of rugby to become the number 1 side in Europe. Watching the boys lift the trophy was a proud moment.
    Other notable mentions:

    - Being at Twickenham in April to watch the Cardiff Blues win the Anglo Welsh Trophy.
    - Going to the 2008 UEFA Cup Final in Manchester
    - Cardiff RFC winning the Welsh Premiership in 08/09 season (first time in 9 years)
    - Seeing Crocker on Sky Sports News when Robinho signed for Man City

Worst moment of the decade was watching Wales lose 1-0 to Russia at the Millennium Stadium in 2004. It was the Euro 2004 play off second leg – I was absolutely gutted after that match. Out best chance ever of getting back into a major tournament.

Liverpool winning the Champions league in 2005. It was absolutely incredible. I would put up a pic but I don't have enough posts yet...

To change the scene from football, the ashes series of 2005.

The series was the best test series of all time and really turned around the English public's perception of cricket(for a short time at least) and every match of the series could have gone either way.

The following Ashes where England got White washed was far better.

I was out in Aus at the time of Christmas, with my dad being an Aussie about the time I converted.

Michael Phelps gold medals also stands out.

Stoke getting promoted. Obviously not an important moment to sport overall, or to anybody who doesn't support Stoke. But promotion to the top tier and then mid table mediocrity is the most I've ever wanted or expected from my team.

Another thing which stands out is Usain Bolt breaking all the records in the Olympics and World Championships. Awesome stuff.

Personally, the final whistle at Old Trafford in the 2004 FA Cup Semi Final.

The relief, joy, emotion etc was absolutely unbelievable at that very moment.

Boston Red Sox overcoming the curse and winning the WS in 04. Even bigger, when they came back from the Yanks being up 3 games in the ALCS.
