    Tapping Up Saga

Fifa have banned Chelsea from registering any new players in the next two transfer windows.

The world's governing body have handed down the punishment after French clubs Lens made an official complaint over Chelsea's signing of their young player Gael Kakuta in 2007.

Fifa's Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) has now found in Lens' favour and ruled that Chelsea are 'jointly and severally liable'.

As such Chelsea have been banned from signing players over the next two transfer windows, which will mean they will not be able to bring a player into the club until 2011.

As well as the ban Chelsea have been fined £680,000 and will have to pay Lens £113,000 in compensation.

Kakuta, a regular in Chelsea's reserve side, has also been banned from playing for the next four months.

    Statement

The full statement from Fifa reads: "On the occasion of its last meeting held on 27 August 2009, the Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) was called to pass a decision in a contractual dispute opposing the French club Lens to the French player Gael Kakuta and the English club Chelsea.

"The French club had lodged a claim with Fifa seeking compensation for breach of contract from the player and requesting also sporting sanctions to be imposed on the player and the English club for breach of contract and inducement to breach of contract respectively.

"The DRC found that the player had indeed breached a contract signed with the French club. Equally, the DRC deemed it to be established that the English club induced the player to such a breach.

"As a result the player was condemned to pay compensation in the amount of €780,000, for which the club, Chelsea, are jointly and severally liable, and sporting sanctions were imposed on both the player and Chelsea in accordance with art. 17 par. 3 and 4 of the Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players.

"A restriction of four months on his eligibility to play in official matches has been imposed on Kakuta. Chelsea are banned from registering any new players, either nationally or internationally, for the two next entire and consecutive registration periods following the notification of the present decision. Furthermore, the club, Chelsea, have to pay Lens training compensation in the amount of €130,000."

There squads good enough for now. Might hurt them a lil at the beginning of next season though.

I don't think it's as big a deal as I've heard people make it out to be. I've heard several people allude to how old the Chelsea squad is, but it's only 16 months it's not like they'll all retire before they can buy new signings.

It'll just ammount to some new bumper contracts for most of the players as Chelsea can't afford to lose many of them.

I dunno, next summer a lot of their players are going to be quite old, and if they've any injuries to key positions/lose any players they'll be unable to strengthen clearly.

Quite amusing all the same. Good to see such a strong action from Fifa. Could affect other clubs if they do this too I'd imagine.

    And he scores goals...!

Not to mention they may lose the likes of Drogba, Mikel Obi, Essien & Kalou during the African's Cup of nation.

I'm now waiting for Man City, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Man Utd, and many more to be handed similar bans for similar dealings they've obviously done.

Were not the only club doing this.

Its 2 transfer windows right? January and summer 2010-2011? If so I think we'll survive.

Good, exactly what should have happened. If you continue to break the rules like that you need to be slapped by the FA, and thank God they've been done. Hell, they were in real hot water over their signing of Ashley Cole and should've been caught for that, but now this means they will be left behind next season perhaps, bad timing considering the ages of Lampard, Terry etc. and they needed to sign and train replacements sooner rather than later.

Lol it's only Chelsea fans that seem to object to it, everyone else sees it as a fair punishment, which it is.

If you get anything out of the appeal, which you shouldn't, I reckon it will just be reduced to like one window, not two.

Yeah, which honestly wouldn't be that bad.

Fuck all happens in January, we usually sign players like Scott Parker or Quaresma.

Like the Italian scandal where Juventus Fiorentina and Lazio got relegated.

In the end Lazio had a small fine as did Fiorentina and Juve were the only ones relegated.

It shows you clubs have more power than FIFA do in some cases.

It doesn't though, FIFA have all of the power, they just fold easily.

    Re: Chelsea handed transfer ban

2 transfers windows is more than fair there really is no need for chelsea to appeal that. Not much happens in the January transfer window as it is so there only really missing out on next summers. Hopefully Fifa don't decide to cave in on this one.

Apparently this happened to Roma over the signing of Phillipe Mexes, it was reduced to 1 window after appeal.

United have seemingly been doing this for years. Offering the parents money and good jobs and whatnot in exchange for convincing the kid to move to England. It was only a matter of time before they got cought.
