Release Date: August 14, 2009 Studio: TriStar Pictures (Sony) Director: Neill Blomkamp Screenwriter: Neill Blomkamp, Terri Tatchell Starring: Sharlto Copley, David James
Genre: Sci-Fi MPAA Rating: Not Available Official Website: Not Available Plot Summary: "District 9" depicts a fictional world where extraterrestrials have become refugees in South Africa.
District 9 has been running a viral marketing campaign for over a year now, starting with signs all over San Diego Comic Con last summer before anyone even knew what the movie was about. As the movie gets closer to its August 9 release date, we've learned more about the plot, and the viral marketing continues to flesh out the fictional world the movie will take place in.
Trailer Addict got their hands on some new posters and banners for the film, which is set in a futuristic South Africa where aliens have come to earth and been forcibly placed in internment camps to keep them out of the general population. In the film the main character comes to understand the alien point of view and fight for the rights, but the point of the posters is to set up this world in which aliens are a hated race.
Check out a few of the posters below, and click on them to get to Trailer Addict's full collection. It's all variations on what we've seen before, but still cool to see the marketing campaign really coming to life as the movie gets closer to release.
I'm still confused as hell about this movie. I saw the previews on TV and I'm like... what the Hell is the point of this commercial? Then the movie announcer guy said Rated R randomly in his deep voice and I was like... uh okay. Not sold...

The premise is sem-interesting. And I do love a good viral campaign. Not really; keeping track of it is tiresome. The concept of an alien blogging is just not for me.
