This is a series that needs to die quickly if they want to salvage any sort of good reputation. The original was scary, creative, raw, fresh and most important unpredictable. However, starting with the second film, it quickly lost all of the good qualities. While it hasn't been a complete downward spiral (I feel as if 3 was better than 2, 4 was horrible and 5 was better than 4, but not as good as 2), every one is just an excuse for a surprise ending (Which none have captured the shock of the first) and creative kills. When the only selling point to your movies is how the kills are done, you're not doing something right.
Had Saw 2 never been made, Saw would be regarded as one of the more clever hidden gems ever in horror cinema. True, the Saw name wouldn't have been as well known, but I feel it's better than being known for pointless film only to appeal to gore hounds. Saw became everything it was supposed to not be about. It's just yet another mainstream series that lacks anything original.
At least Cube remains what it was back in the 90's.
I agree with this. This is just one of those franchises that took a great film with a great and original concept and sucked the life out of it with countless sequels.

Machida successfully defending the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship with his face.
Well think about it. These sequels cost next to nothing to make. They always come out on or near Halloween, and young kids always want to see them. And they always make their money back, and much more on top of that.
I agree it's getting pathetic with all the sequels to this movie. But it wont stop anytime soon. At least not until it stops making money.
This year it goes head to head with Final Destination 4 though, so that might cut into profits.

While I know it's all about the almighty dolla-dolla bill, I'd like to see the series end. For me, the Jigsaw character is what made this story so good. Part 4 should have been the end of it as they pretty much told all of his backstory in it. Learning why he became the man he did was a cool touch, but let's face it...Jigsaw has been dead since part 3. I don't care to see countless people taking over his legacy anymore. From Amanda to the cop to now this new guy (his name escapes me) at the end of Part 5...it's just being rehashed now.
Since we know pretty much everything about the Jigsaw character, let's end it. And I'll agree that the ending of the original was so clever and a mind-fuck that it can't be reproduced in one of its many sequels. Let's let this series die now, please?
The movies may be watered down, the original killer may be dead, the films may not have the shock value they once did, but for 7 bucks every october, this is my new trick or treat. I still enjoy watching these films more than the cheap thrills about hauntings that come out every year.

But 6 is definitely the last one. They always said it would have 5 sequels.
