Wonder why Rob didn't want to do another. So many liked it so you'd think he'd want to do more.
He's not a fan of whoring out a movie to make a series. To some degree, he's just like Carpenter where he doesn't want to do a sequel if it's just a tweak on the original script. In all honesty, what can Zombie do on Halloween 2 that would be different from the first? It'll just be more of Michael stalking and killing.
I'm torn on this film though. On one hand, Zombie made a film that fits nicely on it's own. There really isn't any storylines that were left open and Michael is dead. At the best, all the writers can do is exactly what has happened to Michael several times, bring him back in some unnatural way to repeat his mayhem by chasing Laurie and presumably Annie again. At the same time, I've never been a huge fan of the original Halloween 2. If there's one Halloween film I'd like to see re-done, it would be that. Halloween 2 is just mindless filler for 70 minutes before Michael and Laurie finally meets up again.
If there is a sequel, I'd love to see a new approach. If nothing else, Rob Zombie's film treated Michael different from all others. Instead of being an unstoppable beast, he's a man. As controversial as this would be, focus the new series on what's controlling Michael (Ie the mask and the evil) instead of on Michael himself. As unpopular as this may be, having a different killer could really broaden the series and make it far more creative. Treat the film similar to Halloween H2O with Laurie just being a complete mess of a person. As Halloween approaches, have her finally just crack and show that the evil that Michael had, had more to do with nurture (In the blood) than it did for nature (The bullies and the mom's boyfriend).
No matter what they do, I actually feel it would be a mistake to just succumb to making Michael the unstoppable cliche horror villain again.
The Zombie version actually surprised. I didn't expect that much out of it, but it was a very well-done flick. Rob Zombie does know what he's doing behind the camera.
Too good to let slide until we get some hard facts, a morsel of info has come our way regarding a sequel to Rob Zombie's Halloween.
It's been widely reported at this point that Inside helmers Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo have parted ways with Dimension Films and Trancas International's proposed Halloween 2, leaving the door open to anyone. An insider phoned in this afternoon exclusively informing ShockTillYouDrop.com that Rob Zombie is going to reprise his duties as director and carry on the new Myers legacy that he forged with Tyler Mane behind the mask.
Where does that leave Tyrannosaurus Rex? Well, according to our source, the project is on hold for now since Halloween 2 is expected to start shooting in March. But questions remain: If this is true, has Zombie been at work on a story? Is a script complete? Will a script be complete by March? The man is busy hatching his new album, where's his focus?
There's much to consider.
I've put phone calls and e-mails in to all parties potentially involved. Now we just wait for a confirmation or a denial.
With the announcement earlier this morning that Rob Zombie will return to his director’s chair for Halloween 2, aka H2 (Or should we call it H2a since this whole series is a remake?), Dimension is kicking their promotion of the project into high gear.
They’ve sent us the first teaser poster for their remake sequel, which you can see down below my blather, and they’re also starting to think casting. The guys at Bloody-Disgusting say they’ve been talking with sources involved in the project, who gave them the lowdown on which castmembers from the first film will be returning. From the sounds of it, we’ll see almost everyone.
They say we can expect to see Scout Taylor-Compton as Laurie Strode, Tyler Mane as Michael Myers, Malcolm McDowell as Dr. Sam Loomis, Daeg Faerch as young Michael Myers and of course Sheri Moon Zombie as Deborah Meyers all back for H2. Of course the script is still being written and Zombie has just plopped down in the director’s chair, so things can change. But it seems the plan is to bring back familiar faces from the first film.
Here’s the teaser poster:

I'm excited about this one. I Honestly think Zombie has been working on a script for awhile now, and just denied being part of the second to take pressure off himself.
