Romney suspends presidential campaign

Mitt Romney suspended his bid for the Republican presidential nomination Thursday, saying if he continued it would "forestall the launch of a national campaign and be making it easier for Sen. Clinton or Obama to win."

"In this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror. This is not an easy decision. I hate to lose," the former Massachusetts governor said.

"If this were only about me, I'd go on. But it's never been only about me. I entered this race because I love America, and because I love America, in this time of war I feel I have to now stand aside for our party and for our country."

Romney made the announcement Thursday afternoon at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

I was only thinking McCain/Romney because I figure that was the only way McCain could get Romney to drop out.

BTW: Ron Paul is the only true Conservative left in the race?

I'm sad.

I'm hoping for McCain/Romney now. It's probably actually better this way. Romney's ethics were certainly a huge question mark, and McCain is great on those kinds of issues. Romney has the financial expertise which McCain was clearly lacking.

Agreed with Terry. Romney dropping out surprises me, but after Super Tuesday, I suppose McCain is the frontrunner for the Republicans now. McCain/Romney wouldn't be bad, and in about a years time after taking office, I'm sure Romney would take over as president.

Because, you know, McCain is like 90.
