Same Sex Marriage

I stumbled across a poll on the internet asking if same sex marriage should be allowed. Don't get me wrong, it grosses me out completely, but I do feel that for the benefits they should be allowed to be married. So I voted to allow it. I was astounded by the results; 61% of people had voted that it shouldn't be allowed. Now this is a big gain for the GLBT community, but it still means that almost 2/3 people are against it. I don't understand why. Why are people so obsessed with the lifestyles that other people live?

Same sex "marriage" no, but a civil union allowing the same right then yes. Marriage is something that is and always has been something shared by a man an woman, and is (according to my beliefs) a gift from God.

If someone wants equal rights I am all about it, but not by making it a marriage. I also believe someone going into a civil union should be penalized legally for splitting, as I feel the same should happen with divorce, but that is not here nor there.

i personally.. don't care i'm not gay, so it doesn't concern me.. thats the way i look at it anyway

I am 100% against it.

I think states should be able to decide individually what they want to do.

That way the northern states can have it and down here in the good old south we can ban it.

I think that is a pretty fair compromise. I don't know what homosexuals want, but it gives them a lot of the rights, such as health care benefits that they would get with marriage. On the opposite side of the board, those that feel marriage only exists between a man and a woman, can keep that same belief.

I don't think that is a real solution. You're going to run into a few problems;

1.) The confusion between insurance companies, retirement funds, and other issues. Or what if, say you lived in Vermont, were insured by your gay lover's work, but got injured while vacationing in West Virginia?

2.) An inequality between states shouldn't really exist. It'd be like California saying Freedom of Speech is no longer guaranteed to you, however in the 49 other states, you can still practice it.

The thing is that the Constitution guarantees states rights.

The states don't have as much rights as guranteed to them by the constitution.

It wouldn't be like taking away a right all ready given to them, just letting each state decide on new laws.

I am a strong supporter of states rights.
