Other than a piece of paper and a ceremony, marriage is mostly a sense of personal / relationship status. What makes me weary about marriage for anyone is the fact that I now need approval of a court to officially break up. Believe you me, when Giant goes out and cheats or does whatever else to ruin this relationship, I don't want the courts involved in any matter of his severe beating - er, our breakup.
But that's not the point. If we're going to give gay couples the same benefits through a civil union, then I really don't see a problem with letting them have a little ceremony to top it off. Sure God can be part of marriage, but God wouldn't be invited to any ceremony / marriage I end up with. If God is your basis, then you shouldn't allow me to get married either.

The difference is that a same sex relationship is strictly forbidden in the Bible.

That is my big complaint.

You have the right to not believe in God if you want (although I don't see how anyone could) and I have the right to not support something that is wrong according to my beliefs.

As pointed out earlier the majority of Americans feel the same was as I do.

I certainly will not disagree with the idea that many americans are opposed to same sex marriage, but I have to wonder... Ino pies, where did you find this infalliable internet poll?

An internet poll questioning support for same sex marriage is going to get very different results from one page to another. For example, imagine how different the outcomes would be for such a poll on foxnews.com as opposed to airamerica.com

I'm for it, people can be against it for whatever reason. Whatever. If marriage was solely a religious institution, which originated with Christianity, I would say fine have whatevr rules you want. But it's not and it didn't.
