Rep Power: 4 ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: The Eventual War With Iran Has anyone ever actually spoken to an Iranian? I have actually had the pleasure of making friends with more than a few, and the amazing thing is, they're actually here because ... wait for it... they want to be! And they don't hate Iran! Didn't flee in terror or anything. Just thought they might be able to make more money here than there. I am in no way claiming to be the be-all end-all of knowledge based on a few friends. But every news report, every story I've heard has mentioned the overall positive feeling of the Iranian people, except the fear that we're going to bomb them. Which is somewhat justified. The problem with Iran isn't the Iranians. It's (spelling) Machmoud Ahmedinijahd and his government. We need to have two goals, both in non-gun related policy. A: Keep them from nuclear weapons B: Strengthen our relationship with the people. Hey, here's a thought. Let's trade with them more! Let's try to sell them things that there people will like. Start simple, maybe with food or medicine or something that the people will want. They refuse, it turns the people against the government just a bit more. They accept, the people like us more. We can look like good guys again, and oh, yeah, make some money. Or we could just invade a country that isn't weak. Cause invading the weak one worked out so damned well for us. |

One of my own very best friends from school is Iranian, and he's probably the most friendly, charming, sincere person I know. He loves Canada, as he's lived here for quite a while now -- but he also loves Iran, and tells great stories about living there. | ||
