Don't automatically believe the government either.

They poisoned our soldiers with Agent Orange in Vietnam and deny it to this day.

My uncle who is suffering from the affects of it begs to differ.

Iran cannot and will not play nice. Iran has already stated unequivocally that it has no intention of complying with demands to eschew nuclear weapons. Iran is North Korea on steroids, with 40 percent of the world's available oil and a willingness to blackmail the world.
I agree with mike.

Iran has never had a proven nuclear weapons program. Ever. This inconvenient fact stands as an indictment of the Bush administration’s stance on Iran.

The recently released 2007 National Intelligence Estimate that Iran “suspended its nuclear weapons program in 2003” caught the Bush administration flat-footed. In his panic, Bush grasped desperately at the idea that the weapons program may have once existed. However, the report does not offer a scintilla of evidence that the weapons program was ever an established fact.
I agree with that.

Yes, but if we turned our back to everything then people would be pissed about that. "How dare America, the most powerful nation in the world, not help them!"

I would rather be accused of not doing something than doing something we should not have for once.

Re: The Eventual War With Iran

Has anyone ever actually spoken to an Iranian? I have actually had the pleasure of making friends with more than a few, and the amazing thing is, they're actually here because ... wait for it... they want to be! And they don't hate Iran! Didn't flee in terror or anything. Just thought they might be able to make more money here than there.

I am in no way claiming to be the be-all end-all of knowledge based on a few friends. But every news report, every story I've heard has mentioned the overall positive feeling of the Iranian people, except the fear that we're going to bomb them. Which is somewhat justified.

The problem with Iran isn't the Iranians. It's (spelling) Machmoud Ahmedinijahd and his government. We need to have two goals, both in non-gun related policy.

A: Keep them from nuclear weapons
B: Strengthen our relationship with the people.

Hey, here's a thought. Let's trade with them more! Let's try to sell them things that there people will like. Start simple, maybe with food or medicine or something that the people will want. They refuse, it turns the people against the government just a bit more. They accept, the people like us more. We can look like good guys again, and oh, yeah, make some money.

Or we could just invade a country that isn't weak. Cause invading the weak one worked out so damned well for us.

This is a great post. Keep it up.

One of my own very best friends from school is Iranian, and he's probably the most friendly, charming, sincere person I know. He loves Canada, as he's lived here for quite a while now -- but he also loves Iran, and tells great stories about living there.
