On the May 19 edition of Raw, Batista defeated Chris Jericho allowing him to go on to One Night Stand giving him his chance to legitimately hurt Shawn Michaels, strap him to a gurney and wheel him out in a Stretcher Match.
The Animal has been after HBK ever since Michaels forced WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair into retirement at WrestleMania XXIV. In the weeks following that match-up, Batista was anything but shy in airing his grievances in regards to Michaels’ actions, with his words acting as daggers digging into The Showstopper until HBK just couldn’t take it anymore.
To silence Batista once and for all, Michaels agreed to face The Animal at Backlash and Raw GM William Regal appointed Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho as Special Guest Referee. Just when it seemed like Batista was about to finish Michaels off with a Batista Bomb, HBK slid out at the last minute seemingly tweaking his knee in the process. As The Showstopper tried to pick himself up using the ropes, The Animal started to move in on him to only be leveled by Sweet Chin Music out of nowhere followed by a cover and HBK win.
At the Raw immediately following Backlash, Jericho came to the ring claiming that the injury Michaels sustained in his bout against Batista was just fabricated and was only further proof that HBK would do anything to win. Following weeks of constantly denying Y2J’s continued accusations, HBK shocked us all by admitting finally, on the May 12 edition of Raw, that the knee injury was all indeed an act and immediately proved it by laying out the Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ Rolla with Sweet Chin Music.
Batista was evidently not pleased with this newest development in his and Michaels’ saga, and he immediately gave HBK notice that he was coming to hurt him. At Judgment Day, Batista confronted Michaels but did not engage The Showstopper then and there, just warned him that he was going to hurt him on his time.
Now that The Animal has officially landed a Stretcher Match against HBK at One Night Stand, there seems to be no better time to exact his revenge than a pay-per-view completely lined with Extreme Rules encounters. But as Michaels has proven as of late, HBK will do anything he has to to win and it will be surely be no different on pay-per-view, when anything goes.
