On ECW, Armando Estrada made the announcement that every active former ECW Champion would compete in a Singapore Cane Match at One Night Stand to determine the No. 1 Contender to Kane’s ECW Championship at Night of Champions. The match will pit former champions John Morrison, Chavo Guerrero, Tommy Dreamer, CM Punk, and Big Show against each other.
When the match was first announced, Estrada seemed to have made a huge oversight. He set up a One Night Stand preview tag team match main event pitting former ECW Champions Morrison and Guerrero up against Dreamer and Punk. But, while they battled for supremacy, it was soon clear that one former ECW Champion was missing from the mix. Soon after the match was resolved, Big Show smashed into the ring and reminded the combatants with authority that he, too, held ECW gold.
In the match, a Singapore cane will be attached to a pole on one of the ring posts. Whoever is able to climb the pole and retrieve the weapon first will be able to clobber his opponents with it. On the surface, this type of match may favor Big Show on sheer size alone. However, John Morrison and CM Punk have always stunned fans with their high-risk, athletic maneuvers. With Bam Neely in his court, will Chavo Guerrero have a few tricks up his sleeve? And don’t count-out ECW Original Tommy Dreamer, who has made a career out of using unconventional weapons and ringside instruments.
One of these five former ECW Champions will become No. 1 Contender to Kane’s ECW gold. Who will be able to survive the brutal rules of a Singapore Cane Match? Tune in to One Night Stand, only on pay-per-view on June 1. Speak loudly and carry a huge stick!
