As WrestleMania XXIV in Orlando marks the 24th year of the sports-entertainment spectacle’s rich history, ECW General Manager Armando Estrada has inked a 24-Man Battle Royal involving Superstars from Raw, SmackDown and, of course, the Land of the Extreme. The winner will receive an ECW Championship Match against Chavo Guerrero – on the spot, on The Grandest Stage of Them All. (Watch Estrada's announcement)
Just before the turn of the New Year, the self-proclaimed “Mexican Warrior” declared that 2008 would be his year – a year in which the “Guerrero family” would be made proud by Chavo for capturing World Championship gold. Selecting former ECW Champion CM Punk as his “stepping stone,” Chavo ultimately scored supremacy in ECW with a great deal of assistance from Edge and the Mexican Warrior’s aunt, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero.
Since that fateful evening, Chavo has successfully defended the gold against the hard-hitting effort of rival CM Punk – by hook or by crook – on a number of close-call encounters. At WrestleMania, the Mexican Warrior will be put to the test against an unknown challenger from any WWE brand – including former World Heavyweight Champion The Great Khali, who Estrada named as the Battle Royal’s first participant.
Since the match's announcement, this over-the-top rope encounter has grown substantially. Rounding out the battle are behemoths including Kane, Mark Henry, Big Daddy V, plus the likes of Chuck Palumbo and Jamie Noble.
From the largest to most lethal to the most technically gifted, Chavo could be defending the title against any one of 24 top-caliber Superstars looking to make their own WrestleMania moment. Can the ECW Champion fulfill his prophetic claims at the close of 2007? Will Chavo make a (frog) splash at WrestleMania XXIV by defending the ECW Championship and leaving the Citrus Bowl with the gold around his waist?
