Streaks:
The Bills have won three of the four all-time meetings.
Last week:
Buffalo had six interceptions in a 16-13 overtime victory against the Jets. ... The Panthers earned their second straight win, beating the Buccaneers 28-21.
Keep your eye on ...
Steve Smith's role in Carolina's offense: Usually after wins, a locker room is jubilant and players are in a celebratory mood. That was not the case with Smith last week. The star receiver told The Charlotte Observer, "I'm no longer an asset to this team," after catching just one pass for 4 yards in the victory over Tampa Bay. The Panthers will need a motivated Smith to make a run this season. Look for him to get involved early against the Bills.
Julius Peppers' sudden surge: In his first three games, Peppers had just nine tackles and one sack. Over the past two weeks, however, Peppers has woken up. He has 12 tackles and four sacks in his last two outings and now gets to face a struggling Bills offensive line that has surrendered 19 sacks already this season.
Paul Posluszny's leadership: The second-year Bills linebacker is a rock on the defense. He missed the final 13 games of his rookie season in 2007 with a broken forearm and was out for four weeks with a less severe broken forearm this season. He returned last Sunday and his interception helped set up Buffalo's winning field goal. He is an inspirational force on the defense and his presence provides the team a boost.
Did you know?
Bills WR Lee Evans has a catch in 79 of his past 80 games. ... Buffalo K Rian Lindell connected on his 11th game-winning field goal last week. ... Carolina QB Jake Delhomme has won eight of his last 10 games against the AFC. ... When Jonathan Stewart has at least 14 carries, the Panthers are 9-0.
