Streaks
The Chiefs have won 10 of 12 against their old AFL rivals and lead the overall series 53-45-2, including the playoffs.
Last week
Kansas City hung tough against Baltimore, but caved in the final minutes of a 38-24 road loss. ... The Raiders dominated the Chargers for much of the game, but gave up an 89-yard touchdown drive late and lost 24-20.
Keep your eye on ...
The Chiefs' starting quarterback: Matt Cassel missed the opener with a knee injury and backup Brodie Croyle played well in his absence against a fierce Ravens defense. Cassel's status for this Sunday remains up in the air, but even if he does not play, Croyle showed he is capable of filling in admirably and has good chemistry with emerging receiver Dwayne Bowe.
Kansas City's defensive line issues: Last year the Chiefs set a franchise low for a 16-game season with only 10 sacks. In addition to those pass rush concerns, Kansas City also finished the year ranked 30th against the rush. At least one game into the season, those problems do not appear to have been solved as the Chiefs had only one sack and gave up 198 rushing yards to the Ravens.
Richard Seymour's leadership: In his first game as a Raider, the newly-acquired defensive end from New England had six tackles and two sacks. Though the Raiders lost and the defense wilted late, Seymour's presence seemed to have a major impact on a unit that appeared much-improved from last year's 27th-ranking.
Did you know?
Darren McFadden posted a career-high 164 yards in his last game against Kansas City. ... Raiders TE Zach Miller had a career-high 96 receiving yards last week. ... The Chiefs have won 14 of their past 20 home openers. ... Kansas City is 12-1 when RB Larry Johnson gets 30 carries or more.
