This is what people say about the #1 pick EVERY SINGLE YEAR: "They should have traded down! They should have traded down!" But no one realizes how difficult it is to get out of that spot, when no team is willing to trade enough value for the pick AND take on the contract of a #1 overall football player.

If Reggie Bush had been selected #1 overall, his rookie contract would have made him the highest-paid running back in the NFL. The Texans offered him an 8% raise over what Alex Smith got last year; he rejected, so they cut their losses and signed Mario Williams to a deal they knew they could take on.

IMO the Texans had a fantastic draft. Mario Williams in the 1st and DeMeco Ryans in the 2nd are going to do wonders for what was a piss-poor front seven, and at the top of the 3rd they picked up two of the top-rated offensive tackles (both MONSTERS, including Eric Winston), which was clearly their biggest need going into the draft.

Re: Texans sign draft pick and it's not who you think

I was pretty anti-Mario Williams...I guess thus far I've been proven wrong

I'm still pro-Reggie Bush though

A few days ago I saw Mark Schlereth on ESPN saying that he thinks the Saints will be better without Reggie Bush, because they dont have to run all the "gadget plays". I just shook my head in disbelief...

Something tells me that statement was a direct reaction to the botched reverse they ran against Tampa Bay two weeks ago...Of course, that ONE play didnt work out, so it must be ALL Reggie Bush's fault, right? No blame on Sean Payton or the O-Coordinator at all, right? I mean, they strike me as the kind of guys who HATE gadget plays, and would never run them if Reggie Bush wasnt there pulling their strings...*end sarcasm*

In his rookie year, sharing the backfield with a very good RB in Deuce McAllister, Reggie Bush accumulated 1,300 yards from scrimmage. That is fantastic. He had over 1000 yards from scrimmage this year. That is good. His yards per carry is subpar, but he is a dangerous threat in the passing game. The Saints will NOT be better without him. They will be worse

It was a smart pick by the texans cause The colts rule that division. They were thinking Defense to stop manning.

Actually, he fell just short of 1000 this year, and it took him 230 combined touches to get there. In my opinion, that's pretty awful. He also wasn't particularly dangerous at all this year in the passing game (just one 20+ yarder, and it was only 25). And he fumbled 8 times in 12 games.

Any starting running back in the NFL should reach 1000 yards from scrimmage, no problem, and most should reach 1000 yards rushing as well (which Bush had zero shot at).

Every time I watched Bush play this year, it irritated me how "selfish" a runner he appears to be; he won't run forward until he's absolutely sure there's a hole, but he'll run side-to-side all day long. To be honest, he reminds me of Laveranues Coles at running back.

Re: Texans sign draft pick and it's not who you think

Ive never liked the way Bush runs, hes fast and elusive but thats his whole game. Running between the Tackles he just seems to have some problems with I cant count the number of times Ive seen him give up a sure 3 or 4 yards on foward progress to bounce to the outside and get tackled at the LOS or for a loss (the Colts game at the start of the year was a perfect example of that).

Mario Williams on the other hand I think is somewhat talented and getting a guy like Amobi Okoye on the line with him has made his job so much easier this year. Even if he dosnt improve from where he is now talent wise hell be a solid player for the rest of his career. Im not sure I can say the same thing about Reggie Bush without McAllister in the line up.

I found a poor man once
He was the age of fifty-three
He spoke about the government
And the thought of being free
What good does us reason if we fail to see?
What good does us freedom if we fail to be free
