The Brett Favre era in Green Bay officially came to an end late Wednesday night as the longtime Packers star quarterback was traded to the New York Jets, the Packers announced.
The exact compensation wasn't immediately available, but it is believed to be a fourth-round draft pick that increases in value depending upon how the Jets perform during the 2008 season.
According to the NFL Network, if Favre takes 50% of total snaps with the Jets in 2008, the fourth rounder becomes a third-round pick. If he gets 70% of the snaps and the Jets make the playoffs, it becomes a second-round pick; and if he gets 80% of snaps and the Jets make the Super Bowl, it becomes a first-round pick.
"Brett has had a long and storied career in Green Bay, and the Packers owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude for everything he accomplished on the field and for the impact he made in the state," Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy said. "It is with some sadness that we make this announcement, but also with the desire for certainty that will allow us to move the team and organization forward in the most positive way possible."
The Jets also confirmed in a statement that a deal had been reached.
"I am looking forward to seeing Brett Favre in a New York Jets uniform," Jets chairman and CEO Woody Johnson said. "He represents a significant addition to this franchise, and reflects our commitment to putting the best possible product on the field. Mike Tannenbaum and his football administration staff did a great job of navigating this complex process. I am excited about welcoming Brett, Deanna and their family to the Jets organization."
The Packers had been talking with the Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers since deciding earlier this week that the team and the three-time MVP couldn't co-exist. The Packers decided to move forward with Aaron Rodgers as their starter after Favre announced his retirement in March.
Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, confirmed the deal in a text message to The Associated Press late Wednesday night.

Stupid. That's all I can say. I mean why would Favre not want to stay in the city that made him and the city he created a legacy in. Favre is dumb. He should of hung up his cleats after this season.

Why would Brett Favre want to be a back up?

Pretty sure Favre wanted to stay in Green Bay. It was McCarthy and Thomson's idiotic ass's that drove Brett away.
We'll see when the home crowd of Green Bay boo's the shit out of the team.

... Most of the packers backed Rodgers and management.. you know... here in Wisconsin. And Favre explicitly said "If I'm not going to start, I want to be traded."
Favre is just overrated. plus he was a damn crybaby for causing this drama
Elaborate on his overratedness. I'd love to hear why. Also I don't really see how he's a crybaby for wanting to play. But I guess he's not allowed to want to play anymore is he? To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

What did you want management to do with Favre? For the last three years it seemed as if he would be retired. Last season he did retire and the team moved on. Now after getting another QB ready to be a starter Favre has another change of heart and expects to come back as a starter. All he is doing is delaying the growth of the team. Not to mention the time he takes in to offseason to decide if he wants to remain active or retire. A trade was needed, as stupid as Favre will look in a Jets uniform.
