| Baseball and steroids: The numbers are up! After all this talk about who is on steroids, who was, who isn't, and now the Feds singling out Bonds on purgery charges (What a joke that is)...we have steroid testing in the game and guess what? It hasn't done anything! I'm not saying the players are still on steroids, I'm actually saying most of them probably aren't.. so that begs the question. How could the numbers still be up? Well, it's because people like myself are being proven correct on this whole issue. It wasn't steroids that was helping the players. Maybe it did a little bit.. But this has more to do with expansion, smaller ballparks, and awful pitching. Awful pitching! Did I mention the awful pitchig? The Yanks can't even go out and get a solid pitcher right now because they don't exist! I hope this finally puts an end to all the steroid BS I've had to listen to for the last two years. | |||||||||||||||

| Sadly the steroid shit isn't going to go anywhere. I agree that pitching and the ballparks have a lot to do with everything. | |||||||||||||||

| There are a lot of different reasons why home run numbers may be up, and some have already been brought up...here's another one that maybe people didnt think of: The WBC. Rather than spending March playing relaxing, meaningless spring training games, a lot of the big name players (including current HR leader Albert Pujols) were bringing their "A" game all spring. As a result, they may have entered the season more ready to play, or "in the zone", so to speak. It may also be natural variation in the averages. What I mean is, let's say 1200 home runs will be hit this year (about 200 per month, or 50 per week. It's a low number, but I'm using it just for simplicity's sake)...there will be some months where there will be more homeruns, and some where there will be less. It won't just be 200 every month. Perhaps, April is just one of those "hot" months for hitters this year. and then there will be a slow month later in the season to bring it back down to the average. | |||||||||||||||
