Call him Flipper?
The Miami Herald reported Sunday that Harrington was leaning toward agreeing to a two-year contract with the Dolphins. Then Miami and Detroit would have to agree to compensation -- likely a late-round draft choice.
However, ESPN.com's John Clayton reported that Miami didn't want to part with a draft choice for Harrington.
The Bengals are the other main team in the mix for Harrington. The quarterback left Cincinnati without a deal and his future remains unclear, Clayton reported.
Cincinnati is debating whether to offer Harrington a one-year, $3 million deal, but negotiations haven't heated up yet.
The Chiefs, Seahawks, Broncos and Cowboys are also interested.

Eric Moulds

Texans closing in on Moulds
The Texans should be able to wrap up a deal with the Bills for Moulds early this week. Houston has reached an agreement in principle with the Bills wide receiver on a four-year contract believed to be worth $14 million.
The Texans are expected to resume negotiations with Buffolo today. Houston, which was preoccupied with USC's pro day over the weekend, is believed to have offered a fifth-round choice in the 2006 draft as compensation for the 10-year veteran. There were some other suitors for Moulds, but none were as aggressive as the Texans. And many of the franchises cited as having interest in Moulds, notably the Eagles, never got involved in substantive discussions.

Brett Favre
Packers
Retirement
Favre, Pack playing waiting game
Packers general manager Ted Thompson confirmed that the team has moved the triggering clause in Favre's contract to April 15, giving him two more weeks to decide whether he wants to play this season, ESPN.com's John Clayton reports. It's a deadline that could be moved back again if needed.
This represents the third time the date has been moved. In Favre's contract, there is a $3 million roster bonus payable in September that was tied to an early March date if he was on the roster. The Packers want Favre back, and Favre is seriously thinking about playing another season, so moving the date back wasn't much of a problem. While the Packers would like to know Favre's intentions, they plan on giving him as much time as he needs to decide.

Torrin Tucker

Buccaneers?
Bucs looking to add Tucker
The Bucs signed Tucker to a two-year offer sheet on Thursday, giving the Cowboys seven days to match in order to keep him, The Dallas Morning News reports. Because he was an undrafted free agent in 2003, the Cowboys would not receive any compensation if they chose not to match the contract.
Tucker's agent, Jordan Woy, said the Bucs offer was for "a lot," more than the $712,000 tender the Cowboys made Tucker as a restricted free agent. "Torrin's looking forward to playing wherever he is," Woy said. "If it's Dallas, he'll be happy. If it's Tampa, he'll be happy. But I personally think Dallas will match. We'll see what happens."

Steve McNair

Contract
McNair days numbered?
The recent comment by Titans owner Bud Adams that the team should draft a quarterback with the No. 3 pick on April 29 has once again raised questions about McNair's future, the Tennessean reports.
McNair, who believes he can play three or four more seasons, is asking for $9 million, the amount his current contract calls for this season, but the Titans are thinking about half that amount. Titans General Manager Floyd Reese and McNair's agent, Bus Cook, have met to discuss a restructured contract, but little progress has been made and neither side has displayed much urgency.

Law targeting Titans?
Law has expressed interest in playing for the Titans, according to The Tennessean. Even though the free-agent cornerback's current contract demands are likely out of the Titans' price range, agent Carl Poston told the paper he's had discussions with Titans GM Floyd Reese about bringing Law to Nashville for a visit.
"At this point, they have interest and we'll see where it goes from there," Poston said. "Personally, I think it is a great fit because he could be a role model for Pacman [Jones], who has a lot of talent and ability. Ty has been there and he could show him the ropes."
After playing for the discounted price of $2.5 million last season, the 32-year-old Law is believed to be seeking around $10 million in guaranteed money. Despite posting a career-high 10 interceptions for the Jets last season, the five-time Pro Bowler was released in a salary-cap move. The Seahawks, Chiefs and Dolphins have been mentioned as possible suitors for Law.

Bucs, Packers vying for Woodson
Woodson is expected to visit the Packers early next week, according to the Green Bay Press-Gazette. Woodson was scheduled to be in Green Bay on Thursday and today, but the trip was postponed for unspecified reasons.
Woodson has already met with the Bucs, who appear to be the only other team making a strong run at the four-time Pro Bowler. The Raiders don't plan to re-sign him, and other potential suitors have been turned off by Woodson's contract demands. Woodson made $10.5 million last year as the Raiders' franchise player. He'll likely have to settle for a deal in the $4 million-per-year range this year.

Kerry Collins

Ravens eyeing Collins
Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome speaks often to Collins' agent, David Dunn, about his client, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports. Newsome is looking to have a veteran quarterback in training camp to either take the starting job from Kyle Boller or push him to a higher level of excellence. Collins would be a natural fit because he played for offensive coordinator Jim Fassel with the New York Giants.
"It's an ongoing thing," Newsome said. "We talk almost every day. Sometimes more than once a day. It's evolving and we'll see where it goes. Right now, the way I see it, I've got the job in the league. There aren't any other teams left out there where you can say to an agent or [a quarterback], 'Look, you can come in here and win the job.' There's one opening, and I've got it, and there are a lot of guys out there." The Dolphins have also expressed interest in Colllins. Miami wants an established starting quarterback to challenge Duante Culpepper, who is coming off a serious knee injury.

The Texans are interested in signing Pathon, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports. Pathon, who worked out for Houston coaches and team officials on Thursday, played sparingly for the Falcons last season, catching only one pass in eight games.

Browns GM Phil Savage is using the NFL owners meetings as an opportunity to lay the groundwork for a potential trade of Faine.
"People are distracted here," Savage told the Akron Beacon Journal. "What you do here is get it in their minds, then follow up."
Savage said he talked to five or six teams, including the Packers. The Delaware County Daily Times reported on Wednesday that the Eagles are also as a possible suitor for Faine. The Browns gave Faine permission to seek a trade after signing free-agent center LeCharles Bentley. Faine, the 21st overall pick in the 2003 draft, is scheduled to earn $550,000 this season. His contract runs through 2009.

Jags still in Arrington mix
Although Arrington's financial demands remain a sticking point, the Jaguars haven't ruled out signing the free-agent linebacker, The Florida Times-Union reports.
"We had a great discussion about what I thought we could do to best utilize his talents," said Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio, who met with Arrington last weekend. "I think he's got other teams that are interested, and he's looking at all his options."
Arrington is reportedly looking for a contract in the neighborhood of what LB Julian Peterson received from Seattle (seven years, $54 million). The Dolphins, who are in the process of arranging a second meeting with Arrington, are hopeful Arrington will lower his asking price for the opportunity to play in Nick Saban's favorable defensive scheme, according to the Miami Herald. The Giants and Bengals are also believed to be in the running for Arrington.

Priest Holmes
Chiefs
Return?
Chiefs will wait for Holmes
Just seven weeks before the first offseason practice, the Chiefs still don't know if Holmes will be able to play in 2006.
"It's a very slow process," Edwards told The Kansas City Star. "He's just kind of laying low. I've talked to him once, basically when I first got the job. At that point, he anticipated coming back. I don't know where it stands at this point.
"He's taking his time in figuring out what to do. There's no rush. There's no deadline when he has to make a decision, but it's his decision to make."
Holmes, who sustained a serious neck injury midway through last season, restructured his contract by taking his 2006 salary from $3.75 million to $710,000, giving the Chiefs some cap relief. Although such a deal is often done by a player who is going to be a June 1 cap casualty, the Chiefs have no plans to cut him. Holmes has been undergoing tests to determine if he can play. The Chiefs plan to keep him on the roster through the season at the $710,000 number, and possibly keep him on the physically unable to return list until he's healthy.

Broncos inquire about Walker
According to the Rocky Mountain News, the Broncos have contacted the Packers about Walker, who wants out of Green Bay. The Broncos have extra picks in the first and fourth rounds of this year's draft, and likely want to deal the fourth-rounder for Walker.
According to ESPN.com's John Clayton, general manager Ted Thompson values Walker tremendously, so it would take an incredible bundle of draft choices for the Packers to think about trading him.
Walker has made it clear he has no desire to ever play another game for Green Bay. Even if the Packers were to offer Walker a lucrative contract, he would not consider returning.
"If I had to go back there, I'd retire," Walker told ESPN.com's Michael Smith. "I don't have to play. I really have no interest in being in a Green Bay Packers uniform or playing for Green Bay again." Walker is entering the final year of a five-year, $6.7 million contract. He underwent reconstructive knee surgery Oct. 7 in Houston to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament and torn meniscus cartilage.

Wilkinson still hasn't decided if he plans to return for a 13th season, according to The Detroit News. Wilkinson, who signed with the Lions in 2003, has said his decision would hinge on the direction of the franchise and his feelings regarding the new coaching staff. Lions GM Matt Millen has spoken to Wilkinson only once since the end of the season. The defensive tackle was not present when the team began its offseason conditioning program on March 20.

Taylor staying put?
Although Taylor's agent, Scott Smith, told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has been contacted by several teams, the restricted free-agent cornerback wants to remain in Pittsburgh.
"I don't like to deal in speculation, but we are hopeful and optimistic that Ike can reach a long-term agreement with the Steelers this year," Smith said.
Taylor received a $1.55 million tender from the Steelers earlier this month. If another team signs Taylor to an offer sheet, the Steelers would have to match it or would lose him and be compensated with a first-round draft choice. Kansas City and New England are two teams still in the market for a starting corner. The deadline for Taylor to sign an offer sheet from another team is April 21.

Jackson, whom the Packers apparently do not want to re-sign, visited the Falcons last week and has been in discussions with the Bengals, according to multiple reports.
The Giants and Rams all have also expressed interest in the veteran defensive tackle, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Jackson, who is reportedly seeking a deal in the neighborhood of three years, $12 million, told the Green Bay Press-Gazette he has had no contact with new Packers head coach Mike McCarthy. "If they wanted me there, they would have made some attempt to sign me," Jackson said. "All along, it made me feel like they didn't want me there anymore. I guess all along they wanted to go in a different direction."

The Bengals are involved in contract discussions with Martin's agent, Tom Mills, the Cincinnati Inquirer reports. But Mills said not to expect a deal any time soon.
"We did exchange contract proposals," Mills said of his conversation with Bengals vice president Troy Blackburn. "There is mutual interest." The Bengals need a backup capable of opening the season as the starter in the event Carson Palmer isn't fully recovered from the injury to his left knee suffered in a playoff game vs. the Steelers.

Wright has emerged as a possibility for the Bengals' vacant backup quarterback job, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The Bengals are looking for someone capable of starting the season in the event Carson Palmer (injured knee) isn't ready to go. "No question he has interest," Wright's agent, Joel Segal, said. "We'll take it one day at a time."

Vikings eyeing Schaub
Since dealing Daunte Culpepper, the Vikings are now in the market for a quarterback and have inquired about Schaub, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports.
Many teams have expressed interest in Schaub, but so far the Falcons have been reluctant to deal the promising backup quarterback. Atlanta doesn't consider Schaub untouchable, according to ESPN.com's Michael Smith, but they're inclined to sit back and wait for the right offer. Before trading for Culpepper, the Dolphins offered Atlanta a second-round pick for Schaub. The Jets had been pushing the Falcons to include Shaub in a potential deal involving defensive end John Abraham, but instead opted to trade for Patrick Ramsey.

Titans, Sirmon to meet
The Titans may not be ready to part with Sirmon. According to the Nashville City Paper, general manager Floyd Reese hopes to meet with Sirmon, presumably to try to convince him to remain in Tennessee.
Sirmon recently asked the Titans to be released. The linebacker has one year remaining on his contract, but the addition of David Thornton of the Indianapolis Colts in free agency may very well relegate Sirmon to a backup role next season.
"I have enjoyed my time here in Tennessee, but with the uncertainty surrounding my situation with the Titans, I think it's best to turn the page and move on with my career," Sirmon said from Hawaii, where he is attending NFL Players Association meetings.
Reese has indicated he is open to having all the linebackers come to training camp and compete for their positions, and there has been speculation that Sirmon might be moved to middle linebacker, but the 29-year-old is skeptical about the idea.
"I have no problem at all competing for a position, if it's a true competition. I have complete confidence in my abilities to do so, but I also know how the business works sometimes if you're the odd man out or you're a player who is only on the field for 30 or 40 percent of the snaps," Sirmon said. Rather than releasing him, the Titans could grant Sirmon permission to seek a trade. Since Sirmon is in the final year of his contract, he should have some trade value.

Packer 'backer?
The Packers are interested in Taylor, and plan to meet with the free-agent linebacker in about a week, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Taylor, 27, started 16 games at weak inside linebacker for the Browns last season. "I was really, really glad when [Packers director of pro personnel] Reggie [McKenzie] called," Taylor's agent, Robert Lattinville, told the paper. "Without disparaging somebody it just seemed to us that Green Bay might be looking for a 'backer. He's a real down-to-earth guy. I think he'd be a real good fit in Green Bay."
