Vince Young = Retarded?

There was a report from the NFL Scouting Combine that Vince Young only scored a 6 out of a possible 50 on the Wonderlic intelligence test that they give to incoming NFL players. Later reports suggested that he actually got a 16, which is still below the NFL average of 18. It's not a good sign when a QB, who's supposed to be the brains of the team, scores so low on the Wonderlic

I actually had to take this test for my job. I dont know what I got, but I'm sure it was at least a 40

I was thinking of posting the exam for all us Monkers.

I had to laugh when I read the headline you typed.

I have been hearing things like you can intentionally answer questions wrong and still get higher than a freaking 6.

You have to think that didnt bode well for his draft position.

Who is this kid that I have been hearing about that is supposedly getting drafted right after Leinart? Its not Young.

The Jets are in between a rock and a hard place. Personally I would pass on him based soley on this exam. You need a strong noodle to play in the NFL.

No kidding. Who cares? Maybe Ryan Fitzpatrick's Wonderlic score helped him get into the NFL, but size, speed and sheer potential are what Young is selling scouts on.

All Vince has to do is show teams a tape of the Rose Bowl and he's a top 3 pick.

Danny, I think you've been hearing about Jay Cutler from Vanderbilt. He's a solid prosepect but he's still probably going to go late in the first round, and well after Young.

I disagree with those that think this isn't significant. Vince Young is going to have to seriously adapt his style for the pros, and for a borderline retard, that may be kind of difficult. He may be able to bob, weave, and otherwise improvise his way through college defenses, but it will be a different story in the pros. (See: Michael Vick)

Oh yeah, Vick looked like he was having all sorts of trouble when he knocked off the Packers at Lambeau in the playoffs. lol..

Vick is fine. The team around him is below average. Andf I think Young will just be fine also.. I'm not saying he'll be better then Leinhart but he has the potential to be.. We'll see.

Also, I've heard various reports on Cutler. Some say mid-1st round, some say top 5 pick.. I dunno.. I do know that the scouts love his skills and say that he will have no trouble adapting to the pro game.

BTW, I don't think the test means anything when we're talking sports.. Yeah, some offenses are very difficult to master but it's not rocket science if you have skill..

Some of the dumbest people in the world play in the NBA and do just fine.

Brandon, the NBA looks like they are doing alright because when all of them are retarded it evens off the playing field haha.

Mike Vick is the MOST OVERRATED player the NFL has seen since Kordell Stewart.

My guess is that Vick's persona and his citys obsession with him helped him get that fat ass contract. It certainly wasnt his ability.

His missed his calling as a NFL running back.

Cutler was the person I was thinking of as well.

I think that the one position where the Wonderlic is probably important is the QB position. Though all football positions require some intelligence to play them, with a lot of them you can get by on sheer athleticism. Not the QB position. It is much more cerebral.

Now, I don't think that Vince Young's low Wonderlic score will drop him out of the first round or even the top 5 for that matter. But it certainly made Houston and NO's decisions easier.

Let's say you're New Orleans and you're stuck between Leinart and Young. Both have great credentials, both have great skills, both were national champions in college. But one scored a 40 on the Wonderlic, and one scored a 16. Who do you take?

Well.. if I'm New Orleans I still take Young. I've gone over this before, they need a guy that's gonna bring excitement to the area, guy tht's gonna sell millions of jerseys, a guy that's gonna be flashy. It is also a predominantly black community much like Atlanta, and is why Vick is so popular down there. If Matt was a lock to be a great QB, that'd be different, but he's not so I take Young and get to marketing.

Also, yeah Vick is overrated but he's not a bad QB and to even suggest that he should be playing a different position is rediculous when you have guys in the league like JOEY HARRINGTON starting.. please.. What's Carr done? Maybe he should play something else.. What's Gus Frerotte ever done? How about Kyle Boller? I could go on and on.

I have read that the Raiders love Young and the Jets love Leinart. The Saints could take Leinart then Jets take Cutler.I think Youngs score hurts his stock but I still think he was going to be the 3rd QB taken before the test.Either way Rose Bowl one of the best perfomances out of any athelete I have ever seen.He must not play Madden 06 because in creat a player they give you a version of the test.
