| This test is just used as a way to gauge the intelligence of players, isn't it? It's not what determines who plays, otherwise Bill Gates would be playing in the NFL today. | ||||||||||||||

| Dak, he's never proved to be anything special. He's had ups and downs when healthy and then he's always hurt. How can he still be taken seriously as a franchise QB? How could anyone still be confident? | |||||||||||||||

| Well I am basing what I say soley on what I know about and that is college career. I don't really know about his professional career, but it doesn't seem to me that he has had a chance to prove what he can do yet because he has had a lot of injuries in the NFL. That is my stance. But of course it could just be another issue of being a big fish in a little pond while in college I guess but I don't think so. Again, just one guys opinion. | |||||||||||||||

| There have been so many guys who were better in college than Pennington was, and Pennington didn't even play in a major conference! Not to mention most of the guys who set the NCAA ablaze don't even turn out average pro QBs. | |||||||||||||||

| You really can't use college ball as a gauge at all when it comes to the pros. There are certain situations when like a guy lights up the SEC or like Young's performance against USC, where you could say "wow.. look at that" but for the most part these guys have 10 WRs who are future pros or they are playing against cupcakes like Pennington was. Then you have other guys who will throw 50 passes a game like whoever QB's Texas Tech or Hawaii in a given season. | |||||||||||||||

Like I said, it's certainly not the be all and end all. If it were, then Bill Gates would be an NFL QB. Intelligence is just one of many, many factors that goes into making a good NFL QB. But the fact that all but 4 starting QBs in the NFL had an above-average Wonderlic score (and Michael Vick was only 1 point below the national average, and higher than the NFL average) gives a strong indication that being intelligent does help when you're a QB. That's why I think people should be alarmed that Young scored so low. Especially if his original score of 6 was true. I mean, that score is so ridiculously low... Sure, you can point to Marino's low score and say the test is bullshit, but then you're ignoring Brady and Manning's high scores. Steve Young scored a 33. Troy aikman scored a 29. However, Ryan Leaf scored a 27. Another fact for you guys...the average Wonderlic score of the starting QBs who made the playoffs this year was 28.8. Intelligence may play only a small role, but I think it definitely does play a role. | ||||||||||||||||

| I think there's a difference between football intelligence and actual intellingence, we can all agree.. For example, there's a lot of things in high school I wasn't interested in and never payed attention to. Young probably knows football like the back of his hand and couldn't have cared less about anything else his entire life. You are just assuming that he is incapable of learning, which I don't believe this test proves.. All this test proves is that Young wasn't at Texas to get a degree, he was there solely as an athlete. | |||||||||||||||
