What if a current pro athlete was gay? (WNBA excluded)

There have been a few cases where a player, well after his playing days were over, came out of the closet. But, what if a current player did it? What do you think the media and his teammates would say about it?

Also, do you think it would make a difference how good the player is? For instance, would teammates be more accepting of Michael Vick if he was gay than they would be if it was a back-up offensive lineman, or worse yet, a kicker?

In the UK only won Footballer as come out of the closet(Justin Fashunu) that was in the late eighties and he got some stick mainly of the crowd and the press, but we have a story what as been in the newspapers the last two Sunday's of a couple of un-named premiership players having a gay relationship, one of these players is an England International and the other is a multi million pound midfield player, ive also heard who the England international is by a very good source!!

Probably depends on the crowd and the city, but I would gather he would hear stuff like "Broke Back Mountain". But I would imagine the people that even attempted to yell derogatory comments would get instantly tossed, and rightfully so.

This isnt 1954 people. Who cares if he sucks a little dink every now and again?

I watch nearly 10 hours of C-Span every single day. It's my favorite channel.

This week they had one of my personal hero's, the director of the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union, for those who don't watch better television), Anthony Romero. Anyway, Romero is taking phone calls about the Bush administration and wiretapping. Great fucking stuff. But out of nowhere the host, who basically does nothing, announces that Anthony Romero is the first Latin director of the ACLU and is also an openly gay man.

This wasn't news to me, but I was completely friggin' shocked that he'd just so casually say that on television. The thing is, I think most people were shocked that he had said that because why does it even matter?

I think the same thing would happen in sports. I think if someone came out of the closet it would just be ignored. What could they say about it? There's really nothing to say. I think it would be a non-story. Most people wouldn't know and they certainly wouldn't care.

I still say Jeff Garcia is gay. My mom used to work in the same building the Stampeders had offices in and I ended up in an elevator with him. I was glad I had no soap to drop :blitz:

Ummmm well what would happen is somebody would eventually have soap to drop and he would be all over them.
