Seriously, enough of ESPN talking about this kid like hes Mariano Rivera. For fucks sake he did a great job shutting us down in game 7, Ill give him that. But the hype they're throwing at this kid is ridiculous.
Watching the SC/Baseball TOnight preview of the World Series is laughable. The majority of the experts are talking about what a big impact this kid has...and its like they assume hes going to put out that kind of performance every night.
I mean, hey....god bless the kid if hes the real deal. And he might actually be able to fill the shoes the media is giving him. But these friggin guys acting like they already read the book on the rookie whos only been out of college for 14 months or so and in the bigs for 3 months.
Hes got alot more to prove to me. Theres one part that would like to see the kid go lights out in the WS, just for the story aspect of the fresh out of college kid angle. But another side wants to see Ryan Howard send one of his pitches 400 ft into RF.

I really agree, I honestly can't stand it even here in canada when they talk about the WS Price has to be brought up like hes a god send. Lets forget Rays bating order 1 through 6 or the MVPs on the Phillies. Price is the man! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

However, anyone in the know knew that Price would/will be something very special. I've been hearing about him since he got drafted (not through ESPN, of course...they're always late to the party, and then make a huge deal about it), and every scouting report I read on him said he's a cant-miss prospect.
Before this season started, Baseball Prospectus said Price's best-case scenario is a yearly Cy Young candidate, and barring injury/off-field issues, he should at least be a multi-time All-Star.
Seriously...dude is nice

And thats fine...and as much of a Sox fan as I am Im not trying to be a hater just because his team beat mine, TB has got a damn fine squad, and it starts with there young pitching. But im just tired of people talking about Price the same way they would a veteran. He had ONE amazing game, and hes 1 for 1 in save opps for his career.
Nice game rook, but lets see you keep em coming.

Good point Mike, but Ellsbury at least produced the last stretch of the season...
It happens every year tbh. Someone who's relatively unknown steps up and ESPN just feeds the monster, it's ever so annoying. Look at Frankie Rodriguez like what? 5 years ago? maybe it was six. Either way I remember my Dad being like "Just shut the fuck up already ESPN"

wait are you saying Magic Johnson is black, has AIDS and has it better than ME?
I definitely agree CMD...most of the ESPN talking heads probably knew very little about Price before last week's game, and now they're going way overboard
As fans of teams in the AL East, we're going to have to worry about Tampa for a long time. Besides all their good young talent, they have a few more highly-regarded prospects in the minors.
Also, you know Fernando Perez, the rookie who's been playing a little bit for Tampa recently? A friend of mine is good friends with him. Perez is from NYC and went to Columbia University.

Well...the problem I see with Tampa is their ability to come up with the cash to secure these players. I mean..Longoria, Upton, and the pitching staff are going to come at a high cost for a small market club.
So if they are going to stay competitive, they need to keep attendance up, sell some jerseys, and make sure that farm system stays tight, which will become tougher the more successfull they become.

Don't they have most of these young players wrapped up with long term deals? I could have sworn they gave Longoria 5 or 6 years as well as Kazmir and some others..
I really wish they'd get that stadium.
On to Price, he is supposed to be the real deal, but I agree on the coverage.. They are treating him like he's Sandy Koufax.
Ellsbury had an awful year.. I don't care if he produced down the stretch.. I bet the Red Sox would package him in a second for a top line pitcher.
