Interesting topic with alot to hit on....
It's all how a team wins in baseball I believe that makes them a dynasty and how often. If......no WHEN the Red Sox win the World Series
To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts., will they be a dynasty? No. I really don't think so. The reason being is that they have changed the lineup and pitching staff so dramatically in both titles, plus if they won this year it would still be to many new faces. Its more of a tribute to the Theo Epstein and the new ownership. I think if they win this one and one more before 2011 then sure......they are a dynasty. But not yet.
Is Tampa Bay a dynasty in the making? No. They have too many things working against them.
First its their stadium. The place sucks. They recently pulled a ballot to ask for a new stadium because the trial polls showed it had zero chance of passing. They pulled the ballot to try again in a few years once the team has obtained long term sucess. So we are probably talking at least 5-7 years before a new waterfront stadium works.
Next is their salary restrictions. All these guys will be arbitration eligible and command way too much money. If all of them start coming up at the same time some, if not alot will have to be traded. See exibihit A: The Minnesota Twins
Fanbase is key as well and these group of Tampa fans you are seeing in the playoffs right now as the absolute definition of 'front runners'. Will they be there again next year if Longoria, Pena, Crawford and Sheilds go down with season ending injuries and they suck again? What if they don't win this ALCS? Will the fans start packing it in night after night? I have my doubts. Without consistent and high revenue they will never be able to compete long term. Every other team in the AL East has pretty deep pockets. Its hard to fight in the AL East if you dont have the cash at the end of the day. Sad to say, but it's true..
The Red Sox are setup just as good as the Rays for the next 7 years PLUS they have the money to just pony up for the Papelbons, Pedrioa's and Youks of the world. They are already way ahead of the game. I am not saying it can't happen, just stating they have so many things working against them.
I also would love to be rooting for them if I wasn't a vested Red Sox fan. So for now........FUCK THE RAYS!!!
*Crosses fingers for another historical comeback for the ages*

| Well looks like David Ortiz misses Manny Ramirez.
the RedSox still have some young stars. Ellsbury,Dustin Pedroia, Jed Lowrie, lester and Jonathan Papel Bon. Plus they can still resign Jason Bay who has more of a future than Manny Ramirez has, because he's younger. I think they didn't have the besr Josh Beckett.
I don't think they'll come back and win this time around. Boston Red Sox had a adavntage vs the Yankees before and that was heart, but this time around their going against a very hungry team. Reminds me of the young Atlant Braves team back in the 90's. Braves used to be one of my favorite teams back then. |
Ortiz doesn't miss Manny. Kevin Youkilis has been hitting great behind Ortiz. Ortiz is in a funk. But I think its a bunch of things. 1. He's getting pretty damn fat. Look at a game from even 2006 and you will notice a big difference. 2. The wrist is bothering him. Without strong wrists in baseball your pretty much useless. 3. He fucking NEVER hits the ball the opposite way. When a team has a shift on your so bad that their 3rdbasemen in playing at friggin 2nd base, well FUCKING SLAP IT DOWN THE LEFT FIELD LINE. Uuugh. He drives me crazy. I always said to my wife (who is a hardcore baseball fan btw), "I get real worried when a guy has 3-4 years to get his shit together and comes out of nowhere to hit 40-50 dingers. They tend to disappear as quick as they came out of nowhere" It really freaks me out. Thats why Manny was always my favorite hitter. You just knew you were getting .310 40 120 give or take year in and year out.
While I love the addition of Jason Bay, I still do miss Manny. He was a hitting machine, but he clearly hated it here so its probably best for all parties that he left when he did. I just don't think he has much of anything to do with why Ortiz is not hitting.
Also....
Papelbon.
Huh? They didn't get the best year out of Josh Beckett? Is that what that meant? If so.....yeah. Beckett is a very inconsistent pitcher but is nasty when he is on. You can tell that he has dealt with some injuries this year. I just attribute his inconsistency to being willing to play while hurt...while alot of punks (like JD Drew) would go on the DL or take the night off. Johnny Damon is a guy with the same mentality.
and I have no idea what you were saying in the Yankees/Sox line. Ok Heart you. Bye.
