OKLAHOMA CITY -- A source close to the NBA ownership group tells SportsXtra's Mark Rodgers the city's franchise, formerly known as the Seattle Supersonics, will be called the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Calls to team officials were unreturned Friday afternoon and evening. However, KOCO.com confirmed that the registrar for all of the NBA's Internet domain names reserved okcthunderbasketball.com and okcthunderbasketball.net on July 10.
CSC Corporate Domains, an offshoot of Corporation Service Company, describes itself as a domain name management company for corporations, law firms and intellectual property professionals. It is the registrar of record for nba.com and all other domains managed by NBA Media Ventures, LLC.
Over the course of the past two weeks, KOCO.com and SportsXtra have worked together to research what's called whois information on more than 200 domain names, with the focus primarily on possible nicknames such as Barons, Outlaws and Thunder. Most domain names and variations of them had been registered well before the settlement between the city of Seattle and the former Seattle Supersonics of the NBA.
Most of these domain names had been registered by individuals, people who either register domain names in quantity for the purpose of selling them or those interested in owning a piece of Oklahoma sports history on the Web.

I don't think that's a real good name for OKC's NBA basketball team. I rather give the team a name that has something to do with the Southwest or Oklahoma or something less gay. Your thoughts about OKC's team name?
